Au contraire, mon frere. My visit was 8 days long.

(but I only have half of the last day left to write up - and then there's the proofreading & the photos)

Oh. Dang.

Hey GD, it's a bit early for a Christmas party isn't it? Ours isn't until the 14th. Hope you have a good time though! Do you do a gift exchange?

Yeah, it is early. This was the only weekend night that worked for most of us. All the decorations are up on Market Square, and the ice skating rink opened last weekend. So it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

And now that KAMommy & I work together, we only have the one office Christmas party to deal with! Yippee.

We have a gift exchange tonight. We have a $15 per person. Each of us draws a number. The first person picks one out of the pile and opens it. The next person can choose from either the pile, or whatever person #1 has. Person #3 can either choose from the pile, or Person #1 or #2's gift. And so on, and so on. Most will be gag gifts as it has been in years' past. We'll probably cap the evening with either downtown bar-hopping, bowling or ice skating.

Sounds like fun GD. I've played the exchange game before and it can get really fun. This year we drew names and I of course got my boss. That makes it more difficult.

The scratch-off lottery tickets are usually the hit of the exchange with us!

Our company "holiday" party is tomorrow night. We're not going, as usual. The hospital is one of the largest employers in town, so there will be plenty of folks there without us.

Next weekend, they host a "party" for the kids of the employees, which translates to "the rent the movie theater and the kids get to see a movie for free. But mom and dad have to pay. It also starts at 9-freakin-a.m. and the theater is 45 minutes away, so I don't consider it a HUGE gift to me, but it is nice to at least have the chance to take the kids to the movie for cheap. I'm told the hospital used to rent a roller rink for the kids' party, which to me would be more fun, but I guess they got all wiggy about liability and all.

I think we are just going out to dinner this year, plus give gifts. It should be nice, 12 ladies and one token man having a good dinner. :teeth:

We have 10 full-timers here, plus two part-time architectural school students. Most are bringing SO's. 18 to 20 people of ages ranging from 21 to 65. Some singles, some marrieds... And (I think) we all enjoy each other's company.

I also remember a discussion amongst ourselves to have the party early in the season, so that it's out of the way earlier too (to comment on an earlier post)...

The Tennessee Lottery is only a couple of years old now. So giving tickets as a gift hasn't caught on, at least in my circle of associates. Heck, we've still got many, many dry counties in this state.

When I first started working as an architect, I worked for a huge company (I'm sure you've heard of them as they're in most of the continental U.S.) and they had those massive parties. And then each department had its own party. And sub-departments had their own parties...

DH's company usually throws some kind of massive event and everyone dresses up and makes nice. I have avoided going for the 3 years he's been there, but will probably face some sort of social sanction if I don't go to one soon.

When I worked for the government, our main supervisor would reserve a restaurant and not only force the atty's to go, but we had to subsidize the support staff. This is totally against government regulation but everyone was afraid to object.

That's what we call a "Yankee Swap" up here. My boss is the "emcee" and changes the rules every year. This year we're going back to the you can pick from #1 or #2, etc., sometimes we let the last person pick from everything, sometimes we let the very first person go back and pick from everyone!!
We're having our Department party next Saturday night after our last home basketball games. We have it at one of our faculty members "barn". It's really his work shop downstairs and a great room upstairs. They decorate it all up for Christmas.
We also belong to another department, so my boss and a few of the coaches go to that party at a local tavern. I'm not a drinker so I don't go, plus I don't know many from that part of the department.
The school itself used to have a holiday party after the kids left for winter break. 2 years ago, it was in the Atrium. NO TABLES OR CHAIRS. They wanted people to mingle, so after two hours of standing, I was out of there! Last year, it was at the President's house, but it was broken down into two different nights, faculty on one night, staff on another night. The staff night was after work and on a night where we had yet another double header basketball game. Gee, ya think whoever was planning the party would look a a calendar and the time things are going on!!

I like our department party the best. We have tons of fun, no one gets drunk, I always revisit a "flip flop moment" ~ what used to be known as a "blonde moment" of something really stupid that I've done during the year which NO ONE lets me forget!!!

Do let us know what this year's "moment" was. :teeth:

Hey everyone!

Remember when I was talking about how cold it was earlier in the week? Well. . . Now it's too hot! I'm wearing a t-shirt while yesterday I was wearing my warmest sweater! Ack!

So, I'm just checking in before heading back to work to pick up some things that I left sitting on my desk yesterday.

Like the mail.

That should have gone out this morning.

They shouldn't depend on me to do those important things.

Good Morning Chicks and Goofy Dad.

Sorry I was MIA yesterday with my morning greetings. I transfered the video from our trip and I had to watch with the kids. Did a little Christmas shopping too. Still not finished but did put a good dent in the list.

Today will consist of watching the Saints play :happytv: and hopefully win.
Go Saints! :cheer2:

Have a great Sunday everyone!

OK, when you go to the MAIN page... there's that scroll box at the top. It's taken me some time to get used to it, as my pointer is usually right in the center of it when the page loads and I LOVE my scroll wheel and when I scroll, I get frustrated because I scroll in the box and not the entire page. But I'm over that. Really. Sort of.

But my comment today is this... In that scroll box with all the highlights of The DIS, is this title:

Mickey Mouse Penthouse Photos

Now, you guys know me well enough by now to know what that REALLY says to me. So...

Shouldn't those be Minnie's Penthouse Photos??? Did Guccioni change the format? Is this even appropriate for a family forum? Am I the only person that really has no interest in seeing something like that???

Whew. I'm done.

Oh Chris. . . Wow! :lmao:

I'll never look at that the same way! Thanks for the morning laugh!

Yeah, that's the adult-oriented Disney threads. I mean, what else would explain the fact that Donald doesn't wear pants?

On a high note (for me), I finished my trip report just a few minutes ago. I just got done re-doing our website to update all the trip report links. I'm going to read it all for grammar & spelling errors tonight. I'll start posting it tomorrow evening (or maybe during the day if I can grab enough uninterrupted time).

It seriously cut into my LEGO building time. To the tune of, I haven't started LEGO building yet. And even though I have Tuesday off, I probably won't get to LEGO-build. I had about 4 months of no-free-time-at-all, so now I've got a backlog of DVDs that I bought over the last few months. Here's what I got that I haven't seen yet:
"Victory at Sea" - a '50s NBC TV series about World War 2
"Black Hawk Down"
"Jarhead"
"The Great Raid" - Benjamin Bratt World War 2 rescue movie
"Memoirs of a Geisha" - I read the book a few years ago but haven't seen the movie
"March of the Penguins"

What I got that I've seen but not in a while:
"This Is Spinal Tap" - I 'lent' my copy to a friend a couple of years ago. I doubt I'll ever get that copy back. I was buying some beer at Kroger one night and they had it for $9.99. I re-bought it. One of my favorite movies of all time.
"Man on the Moon" - Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman. I love it.
"Shakespeare in Love" - Great movie
"Forrest Gump" - I read the book in 1987 when I was a freshman at UT (Univ. of Tennessee, not Texas), way before anybody had ever heard of good ol' Forrest. I found it at the UT bookstore and flipping through I noticed it mentioned playing against UT in football. I thought that was cool. So I bought it. It was a good book, but I never ever thought it would have been made into a movie.
"Gods and Generals" and "Gettysburg" - 1990s Civil War movies

I plan to watch 4 or 5 of them on Tuesday. For some reason it skews towards war movies. I HAVE to watch them before Dec. 12, which is the date "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" comes out on DVD. If they never made a movie after "Ricky Bobby", it would have been good. Except "Borat". That was funny too. And "For Your Consideration" too.

We saw "For Your Consideration" Saturday afternoon after my Salvation Army bell-ringing. I loved it. Catherine O'Hara should be nominated for a 'real' Oscar for her performance in it. Our friends StitchIsOurHero & StitchIsARedSoxFan took our kids Christmas shopping for the afternoon so we had a very welcome quiet afternoon without kids.

Bad, Bad Cheeky Chick.

GD - love Spinal Tap. "The dwarves are going to trod on Stonehenge"

:lmao:

And Gooooooood Morning, Tricia!

The baby got her Prevnar vaccination today. :guilty:

Good Morning!

I had a gread money spending weekend! Christmas shopping of course. My mom is now officially done which is a relief cause she is hard. My dad is 2/3 done and now I only have my very difficult Aunt and Uncle to shop as far as family goes. I still have some friends and my friends in England are posing a problem because I don't feel like spending over $40 to ship everything.
