Well, Hazzi, I think that my idea of cold is different than yours! ;)

Do you get a school break for Christmas?

yeah 22nd december till 8th jan.

why why why do we go back on the 8th why!!! its the day every1 hates and its my Bday

I'm baaaaa-aaaack!

We're looking at getting a new plotter here at work. A plotter is a large-format printer that prints all of our big drawing sheets. We bought ours used for a song from another architectural firm here in town when we first started the firm, and I need to look at replacing it in the near future. It's not in immediate danger of breaking down, but you just never know. I had to go to a local concrete manufacturing company to see a model like one that I'm considering, in action.

And I'm back to doing my rounds - 4 computers updated / checked out so far today...

hey GD

any of us on this thread doing WPSADI??

im not. i dunno why i didnt think they'd accept me so

So what is your idea of cold? I grew up in Indianapolis, where daytime temps in the teens (fahrenheit) is common for most of January / February. Here in East Tennessee it's much warmer - it rarely gets below the 30s for long stretches of time in the valleys. In the mountains however, it gets and stays much colder.

Out of curiosity... what would a plotter be running these days?? (My step dad works in the county assessors office, so I'm familiar with plotters) (why does assessor looks like it's not spelled correctly?)

Considering I have no clue what WPSADI is, nope, for me.

So what is it?

And for the record, I am not familiar with plotters in any sort of "inappropriate" way.

We're looking in the range of $15,000-$20,000. This is a mid-range (4 to 6 D-size sheets per minute) plotter also useful as a large-format copier, 2 rolls capacity with limited color. All include a B/W large-format scanner (a color scanner brings that price up another $10k). I've got three different models / manufacturers (HP, Oce, KIP) all in the same ballpark on price / features. All have full service plans attached for nominal monthly fees. I'm leaning toward the KIP right now. Color printing isn't that important to us, as we have a good reasonably-priced printing company a block away. To put the pricing in perspective - Full-blown, full-production, full-color (20+ D-size sheets per minute) plotters can get above $100k.

Our plotter right now is an HP 750 - an inkjet plotter using mid '90s technology. It's very reliable, but it is really starting to show its age (printing slowness). To put the speed in perspective - our HP 750 prints one D-size sheet in about 4 minutes, with another minute of drying time. We bought it for about $500 in 2004. Back then, $500 was a major expenditure for us (we were 2 people back then). Now that we're 12 people, it quite literally is our bottleneck.

My idea of cold is anything under 65 degrees. Hot would be anything over 80. :sunny:

Fortunately I live in a climate that *normally* supports that. :teeth:

i love hot weather.

the 98% humidity and 95 degrees weather last august in disney was lush!!

Me too!

Seriously, there are so many different printing technologies and printer manufacturers that it's like buying a car. It's one of those things that I have to balance what we need now versus what we'll need 5 years from now, and keep it within a reasonable budget (I had budgeted $25k originally so I'm doing fine). Why buy a $70K car when a $20K car will get you where you need to go? Unless you really WANT the $70K car (like if it's a Corvette), there's not much justification for it. Same idea holds true with plotters. I'd love to have a color scanner/plotter that can print out 20-squa-jillion sheets per minute, but I don't think we NEED that.

I applied but apparently didn't make the cut. That's ok, but I wish they would have had a Cheeky Chicks team because I might have stood a chance! I don't think you could have applied Hazzi. I think there was an age limit. :confused3

there is a game for under agers and non us residenst as well

... And none of this answers the question of what WPSDAI is! Something you have to apply for? And it's supposed to be fun? No thanks.

By the way, I consider anything below 30s to be too cold for me for long periods of time. I can take weather colder for a day or so... That's why I now live in Tennessee rather than further north.

I see... a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
