cheapest way to buy annual pass (DVC)

I called and I was told you could not upgrade to an annual pass but they give you something else with no expiration instead. Let me know if there is any truth to this.

I don't know what your post means. You can upgrade tickets to an AP - that's a fact.

I don't understand the rest of your post at all. Could you be referring to a voucher? When you order long-distance, you don't get the actual AP in the mail, you get a voucher that you exchange for an AP once you are at the parks. Vouchers do not expire. That's the only thing I could think of that sounds like what you wrote.

Vicki_C, you answered my question. I called UCT and they said I could not upgrade at the parks which confused me a little.

I think we are going with the tickets everyone on here has been recommending.

Glad I helped since I wasn't sure if I was answering what you were asking! I don't know why they said you couldn't upgrade @ the parks - maybe a new person on the phone or something? You can. :goodvibes

I am going to be saving almost $200 for our family of 6. Besides its all going to be spent shopping so its nice to have a savings somewhere.

Just wondered if anyone can answer these q's for me please!!

I bought the AP BECAUSE Easter here in Ireland falls mid to late April 2011 AND early to mid APril 2012. I take my hols then,SO thought if I bought the AP BEFORE 1st August 2010,i'd avoid any price increases
AND if I didn't ACTIVATE tix until mid April 2011, then 365 runs from activation date & I get 2 holidays out of 1 ticket as AP will EXPIRE on the very last day of my trip in 2012 .

Hope that makes sense. AM I RIGHT?

ALSO,
What date is the RENEWAL DATE of the AP. I bought mine on-line a couple of months ago BUT won't activate till mid april 2011.
IF it expires 365 days after, it'll happen on last day of my April 2012 trip, so can I renew it then?
Is there a cheaper/better way of renewing bearing in mind I am DVC member and get a special rate??
Can I wait until I get home and then decide to renew it?How long do they give me to decide?

OR
should I just book a free DDP for 2013 year with MYW tix?
Its only DS (teenager) and I

Decisions decisions!!!

Regards & Many Thanks

Now the 8day non exp. is 394.95. Savings of $67 each tickets. Correct? Since the DVC pass is 399.00. Am I doing this right?

If I activate my AP on Aug 16th of this year. Are they then good through Aug 16th of 2011 or only through the 15th?? :confused3

Thanks

Which should I use to upgrade to my DVC AP (2 adults and 2 kids)??

I purchased four 6-day park hoppers before the price increase for our vacation in a few days. Since then we have decided to go back next August as well so a AP would make more sense.

My question is should I use the passes that I just bought and upgrade them or should I use the 4 10-day non-expiring park hoppers that I bought 3 years ago and upgrade them?? They have 6 days remaining on them.

Opinions please. Thanks

You can't use the partially used tickets. No tickets that are used at all - even NE tickets - can be upgraded once it's past 14 days from first use. You have to just use up those tickets as they are.

Oh - I did not know that. Thanks for the info.

I see Nick Hotel in your list of stays. How was it there??

The Nick is fair. We lived locally and went for a weekend but that was 2005 I think. It actually seems to get a lot of bad reviews now. Check the Orlando resorts board. I don't think I would go back. We liked it before it was Nick. It was a Holiday Inn Family Suites. The same but for 1/2 the price.

No, because then the 8 day is "worth" over $450 and you are exchanging it for a ticket that costs $399. Before the price increase I bought the 6 day NE PH for $366. with a $30. savings, making the ticket "worth" close to the $399. AP price. That's the price you want to end up close to when you take the savings into account.

PS. I made this mistake a few months ago, did the savings backwards and ended up with tickets worth more than I needed. Lesson learned!!! :rolleyes1

I found the 7-day MYW base with NE but without PH was a better deal.

UT's 7-day MYW NE $354.95
7-day MYW NE *new gate value* $414.29

Total savings on 7-day MYW NE $59.34

Price of DVC AP $424.94 with tax.

I couldn't come up with a ticket from UT that provided a bigger overall savings without being more than the AP.

This is a great thread, as I plan our December trip when I planned on buying 3 adult DVC Ap's. Looks like I will be buying some UT tickets instead.

So just making sure I have this right. I can buy a disney ticket from UT and it doesn't matter whether there is a 14 day expiration or NO expiration you can upgrade to an annual pass?? My hubby says he doesn't want to get down to Florida to discover we get get an annual pass. Do you get the annual pass or a voucher??

Now how does it work for kids if I used this 7 day MYW NE - $322.95
Gate price $389.95

Annual pass child (3-9) - $384

We figured we would get the kids the same number of days as ours....

I really need some advise/help.

Thanks

Yes, you buy a ticket from them. When you get to the parks, you use it to go through the gate (that brings the value to gate price and not what you paid). You take the ticket and go to a guest relations window. Tell them you want to upgrade the ticket to a DVC annual pass. At that time, you will get your AP, not a voucher.

They will give you credit for the gate price of your ticket and charge you the difference. Be sure to have your DVC member card and ID for those over 18.

When choosing which ticket to buy, you want one whose new gate price will not be more than the cost of the discount DVC AP.

We will be doing this next summer. I will buy the UT passes in July and then turn them in to DVC AP's when we get there. For three people, it should save us around $100.

To follow up on that unsubstantiated "rumor" where someone was told you couldn't exchange a more expensive ticket MYW for an AP---

I did my exchange last night, no problem. Even got back the $3.19 in cash, not expected, but this is the second time this year that has happened for me.

I've said it more than once but it's worth repeating:
if you have a complicated ticket transaction go to Guest Services at MK or DTD. Absolutely the best people work there and they will go out of their way to be helpful. Love them!!! :lovestruc

Thank you Dis-happy. You don't believe what they tell you over the phone. I am looking forward to our trip soon.
