Just getting done with a 9 night stay at SSR and after two trips to Publix, I was running low on supplies and while walking around the Artist Palette convince shop noticed they sell 6 packs of 12oz cans of Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors Light and Miller Lite for $19.75-$18.00. Now not a bargain by any stretch, but in comparison to $10.50 for a 16oz Miller Lite at the pool, or $9.50 at the shop it doesn't look that bad. 1000004738.jpg

Usually the cheapest beverages on property can be found at the Speedway gas station convenience stores. There have been a lot of posts about people walking to the one near the BWI/BWV with an empty roller suitcase to fill it up with beverages to save money. Perhaps someone who has been there recently can post some sample prices . . .

I have definitely hit up the Speedway by Boardwalk before when headed back to the resort. Just a bit of a walk to the closest one to SSR. I was just rather surprised a 6 pack didn't cost $40 based on the single can prices.

I stayed at SSR in March on a point rental reservation; had a car so brought my own gin & tonic along! Personally I do not consider Bud or Miller to be beer, my tastes run to Guinness, which I had a lot of on march 17 at DS.

The speedway by DS is very easy to get to however DS has a rule that no longer allows any outside liquor. There are security checkpoints at all the bridges. I would not bring a roller as it may be checked. One however can walk around the checkpoint and enter SSR direct by not using the bridge but a further walk as this is allowed.

We just checked into Art of Animation today and, sure enough, beer is only sold in individual bottles at around $10 each. On my previous trips, I've bought six packs at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Port Orleans Riverside, and All-Star Sports, so on a hunch I headed over to the All-Star resorts, arriving at All-Star Music since that was the first All-Star bus I encountered. SIx packs of Bud were under $20 including tax, so much better than $10/bottle.

I see no reason why six packs aren't offered for sale at Art of Animation.

It just occurred to me that I should have walked over to Pop Century to see if they sell six packs of beer. Tomorrow is a non-park day for us, so maybe I'll mosey over there and take a look.

AN INTERESTING ASIDE: While waiting at All-Star Music for a bus to Hollywood Studios and then the Skyway to Art of Animation, an empty bus pulled up. The driver asked me where I was headed, and then offered to give me a ride directly to Art of Animation. He said he was a "floater", and was spending that portion of his shift driving random people to their destinations. Naturally, I accepted his offer, and had a nice conversation with the driver as he took me to my resort. He said his plan, after dropping me off, was to immediately head over to Hollywood Studios, find a long lineup of people, and take them to their destination. A bit of Disney Magic on the first day of my holiday.

I just made the trek over to Pop Century. There is a cold wine fridge which only employees can access (no beer) , but there was also a room temperature wine section, in the open, which had a tiny section at the bottom for beer. There were only 4 six packs total, so not great, but better than nothing. The price was just under $18 plus tax for a six pack.

So, the All-Star resorts each have a fridge full of cold six packs of beer, Pop Century had four room temperature six packs, and Art of Animation had no six packs.

A gold star to anyone who can explain this discrepancy.

Great tip! We ususally stop at the walmart on the way and grab a 30 rack of something cheap. Drinks and food really add up in Disney. We have also used garden grocer in the past and the speedway. But nothing beats the convenience of buying on property.

If you like your beer served like champagne check out the Boulevard Brew
( Hometown Kansas City ) offered at the Contemporary Resort pool bar .
