If you're not careful, that may end up costing you more money than anything else you could possibly do on the Magic!

Actually, a cruise is pretty much all-inclusive and you can seriously spend as much or as little as you like.

One thing I would not miss out on is dinner, brunch and tea at Palo. These will cost you a little bit additional in gratuities, but will be well worth it.

I would also look for a snorkel and mask and bring those with me. When we did the eastern caribbean cruise, I had never snorkeled before and was nervous about trying it. I tried it for the first time at castaway cay and it was much easier than I thought it would be! If I had my own snorkel I would've just checked out what there is to see under the water at the islands we went to before castaway cay. It costs $25 to rent gear at castaway cay, but only $9 to rent the fins. Lifejackets are required but free.

We only did one excursion on our eastern caribbean cruise, but i really enjoyed it. It was a walking tour of historic charlotte-amalie on St. Thomas (i'm a historic preservation person so I was really interested). Unless you are really interested in water sports and it is worth it to you, we decided that we could have just as great a time just walking around and exploring the islands on our own. We didn't feel like we were missing out at all. We went back to the ship for lunch, and it was easy getting on and off (much easier than I expected).

Hope that helps!

Amy,
On St. Maarten the cost of the water taxi (takes you from the ship to the island) is only $5 per person to ride back and forth the entire day. There is a beach right where the water taxi drops you off -- Great Bay Beach. You can relax on the beach and gaze at the Ship across the beautiful blue water. Vendors will rent chairs and umbrella's to you for a very reasonable price. Locals will walk around selling their wares and offering hair brading -- but a polite no thank you will send them on their way again. On Great Bay Beach there is a large trampoline out in the water. They charge $5 to use the trampoline. Locals Vendors also rent jet ski's in this area --- I think they were around $40 per 1/2 hour. We plan to visit the beach -- head back to the ship for lunch then return to the island to walk around town and do some shopping. St. Maarten is a terrific place to purchase a tropical outfit at a very reasonable price for the island night dinner on the ship -- later that evening.

On St. Thomas and St. John there are very many beautiful beaches that can be visited on your own without costing near what the excursion prices are. If you are interested in this - post a seperate question asking how to visit the beaches on St. Thomas on your own - on a budget.
:)

im having so much researching for this trip i cant imagine how much fun the trip will be no matter what we be doing..amy

On St. Thomas, get a taxi to Magen's Bay. So beautiful and so cheap $$. For two people taxi round trip, beach fee and renting chairs less then $25. We bought pizza at the snack bar and it was cheap $$ and very good. While you're floating on your raft a friendly bartender will wade out and take your drink order....is that the life or what? Ask someone to point out Michael Jordan's home up on the hillside. By the way, that was a great wedding gift! - lucky you.

You mentioned "relax and enjoy ourselves". Consider bringing your own bottle of wine and corkscrew. Enjoy the lounge chairs on deck 4 or the top deck - sip a glass of wine and enjoy the evening sky and each other's company!

Take advantage of the many free activities on the itinerary - we enjoyed the trivia, meeting with the imagineers, the galley tour just to name a few.

And you can enjoy the nightclubs without running up outrageous bar tabs - so enjoy the various shows too!

What a great gift and what generous givers! Congratulations!
