Cheap Eating tips, please?

Here's what we do to save money on food:

--We usually fly, however, my parents winter in Florida so they meet us at WDW. They have one of those plug in cooler/refrigerators that you can plug in the car or the wall w/ an adapter. I highly recommend this!!!!! ::yes::

--Because you're driving you can also bring a toaster oven with you. This is great for bagels in the morning, toasted cheese sandwiches for lunch, snack or light dinner & we have also done individual pizzas in it.

--The road that meets "Hotel Blvd" near Downtown Disney is 535. There are many off-site restaurants there (a lot of familiar chains) that are less expensive than WDW restaurants. The Orlando Ale House is a great place. Very, very extensive menu with extremely reasonable prices.

--Also on 535 is a Winn Dixie (make a left when you get to the Crossroads) & go down about a mile or 2 - it's on the right. Regular "at home" prices. Goodings in the Crossroads Plaza is quite overpriced IMO. Bringing your own food to the room will save a ton of money.

--Let each child have their own fanny pack to put snacks in when you go to the parks - dry cereal, pretzel nubs, goldfish, etc. & let them each bring their own water bottle. You can freeze them in the small part of the fridge overnight & they will stay cold all day long.

--If you do want to go out to breakfast one day a great on-site spot is Trail's End Buffet at Fort Wilderness. It's the best value on property IMO.

Have a great time when you're there. :teeth:

BTW - if you were to rent a fridge through the resort it's $10 daily plus tax so for the cost you're probably better off buying your own unit & using it in your vehicle & the room if you have the space in your vehicle!!

I would love to know how to get to Golden Corral from WDW. I am not familiar with the area. We have ressies at POR.
Also, where do I purchase this "entertainment book" everyone keeps mentioning?

The first Golden Corral that comes to mind is on 192 which is very close to Disney. Another is on 535 if you go down Hotel Blvd away from Downtown area you take a right when you hit 535. Go under I4 and Golden Corral is on the left along with several other places. Also, the Orlando Premium Outlets are right near there on Vineland Road. Let me know if you need any other info.

I don't have a great sense of direction :o but I'll explain it the way I would take.

Get to DTD & go down Hotel Blvd. At the Crossroads make a left. It's is less than a mile down the road. I'm pretty sure it's the 1st left you would make from that road, which I think may be 535 (someone correct me if I'm wrong :D ) The lit sign on the building is on the side road that you make the left on to.

The Orlando Ale House is a GREAT place to eat. They have a very extensive and reasonably priced menu. We always go at least once or twice while at Disney! :hyper:

Melsmice pretty much nailed the diretions when you go away from DTD on Hotel Blvd it is 535 you come to and The Orlando Ale House is not far away.

I love Sonny's barbecue. Good service good prices and the food is very good also. Plus they have food that my picky eaters (DS and DH) will eat.

CiCi's pizza is also a favorite of ours. We have one just down the road at home so it is always like eating at home. Although I must admit that the people at the one by my house know us so they are always extra friendly. The thing I like about them is that if you don't see the type of pizza you like just ask!! They will make a special one for you with all your favorite toppings!! I always have to cause no one seems to realize that anchovies are a essential part of a pizza!! LOL!!

Getting ready for our 8th Wedding Anniversary trip to the Most Magical place on earth!! Shhhhh it is a suprise for my son!! Yes we are taking him along with us!! Didn't once and I had a miserable time!! LOL!!

Just a note..........

We're doing Atkins, and we do pizza too.

We eat the topping off and leave the crust behind......

Please don't bring heat generating devices and cook in your room unless you are staying at a DVC resort that already has a microwave and/or stove/oven in it.

We did the Ale House once based on reports from the DIS and other places. Well, we did it once. It was rather nasty to us.
