Chatterbox Thread-Cmon in and Jabber! Everyone is Welcome!

I didn't even KNOW about the starbucks. What do you get again? I go there every week a couple times a week on my way to work. I will DEF have to find out about that one! :)

You are so lucky you can go on your actual b-day. Mine is always way too close to the end of school for the girls so I have never been able to go on my ACTUAL b-day BUT I am going CLOSE so I am going to get a button anyway. ;)

Good news Shane FINALLY passed his contractors license test!!! I guess FOURTH times a charm LOL. He just got home. So we are going to go have some lunch and celebrate. I am actually amazed because between my surgery, my uncle passing and everything else that has been going on he really didn't have a lot of time to study but thank goodness he FINALLY did it! WHEW! One less thing to worry about!

See you gals later!!

P.S. Hi MJ! Good to see you!!

A free drink, any one you want.

I am pretty sure I have gone to DL on my actual birthday for the last 5 or 6 years.

On a happier note...

I love all the freebies I'm getting with my birthday coming up:

20% off my entire purchase at Michael's
B1G1 Free from Souplantation (I LOVE this place!)
Free Rib dinner from Famous Dave's
Free Orange Julius
$10 off a $20 order from Mimi's
Free Grand Slam from Denny's
Free Meal from Rubios
Free entree from Hooters (I really do love their wings)
Free piece of chocolate cake from Macarino Grill (doesn't say you have to purchase anything)
$35 off a $35 or more bill from Catal, Naples or Tortilla Joes (all in DTD)

WOW! That is a lot of nice birthday freebies!!
Enjoy them!

I wasn't sure how much the foster family would supply her with. She said they took her out and bought her undies and pajamas. Do they foster parents receive money right away to go buy her stuff? :confused3 She had called me last night becasue the social worker said she should dress nice for court and she only had the clothes she was wearing when she left.

My neighbor is a foster parent, her and her husband gets reimbursed for the items they buy plus a monthly stipend. She says it usually takes a few days to get the first amount of money to help with the care of the person in their custody. But they always have money put aside for cases where the kid or kids come without clothes or shoes, they stock up on toothbrushes and other items at Costco. Since they never know the age or if they are getting 1-4 kids at a time. They also have a clothes closet that they keep where she buys clothes and shoes on clearance for emergencies.

It is going to be at a restaurant/golf club and I guess they are going to have a video presentation with photos of his life and have people talk. I think it is a neat idea and I like the idea of it being a positive occasion but I have just never NOT had any kind of religious service. I guess there is always a first time.

I'm not religious, if I needed a label for my beliefs.. I would say agnostic with an interest in many beliefs and a sense spirituality in the natural world.

I tend to keep my lack of belief to myself when it comes to family..
My parents are now very active in a non-denominational church and have strong beliefs - my dad became ordained and just finished his bachelor's degree at age 71.

For my grandmother's memorial all the family met at my parent's, sharing pictures and stories. I learned more about my family and my dad's childhood in that one day of talking than a lifetime of being the littlest kid hiding under the table listening in to the family gossip. My one piece of advice, have someone video tape or at least record the audio of the sharing. It didn't dawn on us until after everyone was talked out. Family stories are so important to pass on to the next generation.

The foster mom took her to the local youth center and got her signed up and took her to get a library card and also told her she will take her around to apply places and find a summer job so she can earn some $ and not be stuck there all summer. We're pretty sure she will be staying at the foster home but she said she's ok with that.

My birthday is on Sunday (the 6th) and guess where I'm going....
DISNEYLAND!

I'm glad that things are looking good for her. Sounds like she has a very good placement.

Happy early Birthday and have fun! :yay:

Just dropping in with a friendly hello :sunny:

HI!

HAPPY B-DAY TO THOSE THAT HAVE BIRTHDAYS!!!!!
Thanks!

I didn't even KNOW about the starbucks. What do you get again? I go there every week a couple times a week on my way to work. I will DEF have to find out about that one! :)

Good news Shane FINALLY passed his contractors license test!!! I guess FOURTH times a charm.

I believe the Starbucks deal is tied to registering your gift cards. Next time you are in , buy a GC and register it online. You get a bunch of perks with frequent use of a registered GC.

Subway has a similar perks offer with GCs, you get points for each purchase and after so many points you get a free item.

It really does pay to register those gift cards! I lost a Caribou one, I thought it was zero balance. When I moved back to MN I looked it up online, still had $5 left. I emailed them and they sent me a new card. :thumbsup2

WOOHOO! for your DH passing the test. :yay: I hope it brings him a job with much better contract terms and no more weird months of not being paid. I'm so excited for your family! :goodvibes

Our weather is in constant change right now. One day hot and humid, the next is cooler, rains, gets sticky humid and then very cold at night .

It wrecks havoc on my muscles and joints. I know most people have arthritic symptoms in the winter.. not me.. summer is my worst time.
Eloy keeps offering me his darvocet. I don't do well with pain meds, heck any meds make me feel odd.

I'm stubborn, I hate admitting that I can't handle the ache and pains and require medication to get thru the day. Okay it's denial... if I keep my head in the sand, eventually it will all go away. :rolleyes1

Hmm, is that why my ears itch?? Must be all the sand. :lmao:

Thank you Bernice that is SO sweet!!! :) Love it!! I wish I knew how to do those things. I am so lame at computer stuff!! That made my day!! :)

Last night we took the girls to get their swim team pics and I gathered a bunch of pics of my uncle for the service so we met up with my parents and went to El Torito for dinner. I told mom we should have just made THAT my birthday dinner and be the end of it but I was kind of dressed all scuzzy cuz I had been home doing chores all day and hadn't expected to do much more than grab a burger and she is still insisting we are going to go out on Friday although I still feel funny "celebrating" with everything going on but we shall see I guess. I think they feel bad because we did NOTHING for Shane last week between my surgery and then the VERY next day all hell breaking loose with my uncle. SOOO we shall. To be honest I am not a child and don't NEED to do anything for my birthday but I think my parents like it. I guess I will always be their baby LOL. Only child and all. ;) And as a parent myself I guess I "get it". :)

But anyway after dinner we went back to their house and went through more pics and it was really fun reminiciscing! I love to do that sometimes and we were having a good time laughing at all the old pics. I hope that that is how saturday goes and that it is a good day of rememberance and not a sad day!!

I am SO glad Shane passed his test and by the way THANKS B for the congrats!! His stupid job, he told them that he was taking me to the doctor since he obviously can't tell them the truth, and he was supposed to go to work after the test well they did the same old crap and laid him not ONLY for the rest of the day yesterday but for the rest of the WEEK! They wanted him to work on Saturday and he told them we had the service and they got mad so no work the rest of the week! GRRRR. I told Shane I SO wish he could just go over there NOW and tell them to buzz off! I am SOOO sick of that place! But unfortunately even though he passed it is STILL a long process. He has to get his actual license, get bonded, get everything all set up and then actual BID some jobs and GET them since they are starting their own business. Plus we need actual cash flow and ins etc before he can jump ship. He is thinking it will prob be 3 or 4 more months. But at LEAST the ball can finally start rolling!!!

Since he is laid off today he is going to his business partner's place today to start working on all the paperwork! I am just SO disgusted because he missed Monday obviously because of the holiday and now these 3 days and he was ALREADY set to miss next Fri and Monday for a golf tournament which personally I wish he wouldn't go to because we are going to get REALLY tight on money missing all these days but he planned this for months and he doesn't want to cancel. He and I bump heads in that area a bit but so be it.

Anyway I am working today as well in lieu of tomorrow since I am volunteering at the girls school tomorrow and so I think today will be pretty low key. The girls will prob go to practice tonight since they have only been once this week and prob nothing going on tonight and then as I said tomorrow I am helping at the school and then I guess the plan is to go out tomorrow night. Then Saturday shane is taking the girls to the meet and I am going to the service with my parents. So pretty busy next few days.

Next week I have my post op and it is the girl's last week of school so it will be pretty busy next week as well. Looking forward to things settling down a bit!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Thanks again B! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLY!! :dance3::cheer2::cheer2:

I hope you have a great birthday! :) Enjoy! :goodvibes

Thanks so much guys!! :)

Sitting here at work and you brightened my day!! Thanks!!

Yeah for almost summer! Went downtown to the library to get my fill of trashy romance novels  and perused the cookbooks for fun. It was lunch time so the streets were just alive with workers talking, walking and eating lunch outside. Street muscians playing music on every block , the music mashing all together in one big noisy concert.
There was a drummer and horn group wearing white shirtsand pants , they had small Mexican flags pinned to side of the drums and dcorstions on sleeves in the flag colors. I could hear the drumming three blocks away , wild stuff. It was to advertise an event this weeknd ... Refugee Day ? New to me.

It's Thursday, in the summer months the farmers market opens stalls along Nicollet mall ( street downtown that only bus or taxis can go). Nice opportunity for office workers to grab some yummy things for lunch from a vendor or to get produce, eggs, cheese, honey, bread, flowers and plants to bring home.

I bought strawberries, grapes, bunch of tomatoes, homegrown green onions, huge bunch of leaf lettuce and five peppers that were going bad (5 for $1) to slice and freeze. Spent $9 total and have a bunch of yummy fresh stuff in the fridge now.

Exhausted and watching season 5 of Jon & Kate plus 8 on netflix, you know when everything went sour and the papparizzi followed em everywhere. Right before the divorce.

My Blue cheese-garlic bread recipe.

Level: easy
Time to make-prep: 5 min. max.
Cooking:10 min -15min.

Ingredients:

1 cup blue cheese crumbles
1 cup parmesan cheese
½ cup of Pine Nuts
2 table Spoons of butter
Olive oil
Pepper-black (crushed or grounded)
4 pieces or “teeth” of garlic, peeled and diced small
Pre-made pesto
French bread

How to make:

Cut French bread long ways in half. Spread butter on both halves-enough to just so cover the bread. Do this same procedure with the pesto. Sprinkle some of the diced garlic on one half, then the other remaining on the other half. Sprinkle pine nuts some on one half and the rest on the other. Add parmesan to one half of bread, then the remaining to the other half. Then lightly drizzle in a zig-zag way olive oil on the ingredients you have already put on the bread (do this to both sides). Add blue cheese crumbles, half on one side and remaining for the other half. Drizzle a bit more olive oil to both halves of bread and then had crushed black pepper, grinding it on to the topping is best advised. You just want a small amount of pepper-the bread is not supposed to be spicy.

Bake bread at 350* at 15 min. you will know when it is done as the blue cheese on top will get slightly golden brown and the edges of the bread are also brown or dark brown.

Cut and serve!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

AND I LOVE JON AND KATE..WELL ACTUALLY I JUST KATE!!

Home from work! WHEW! It was stressful there. Glad I am home! It has NOT been a fun place to be in a LONG time so I am glad to be outta there. Most of my mom's deals are all trying to fall apart and she is a giant stress magnet so NOT fun right now! Esp not a fun place to be on my b-day! :( Anyway better now that I am home! :)

It is the girl's early day so I am about to go pick them up and I think we are going to run by Wally World aka Walmart and pick up Alice in Wonderland. If you buy a movie the first week at either Walmart or Target they always have them on sale. I got Edward Scissorhands (which yes I know that is not a new one) but I picked that up the other day on dvd for only 5 bucks! I had never seen it all the way through but I like that one!!

Anyway the girls have swim tonight but otherwise nada! Shane has been with his business partner all day getting stuff going and I am excited about going to the school tomorrow with the girls. I like volunteering.

I am hoping to volunteer on the last day as well. I have done it pretty much every year so I am hoping to do it again.

B it sounds like you had a fun day downtown and scored some great deals on the veggies!!

Sara your recipe sounds YUM!

I have GOT to get myself under control though! I lost a bunch of weight last year and then after being so sick I wasn't able to workout and I haven't been eating that much but what I HAVE been eating hasn't been all that good and between the two things I have been putting on weight like crazy. It seems like something is nuts though cuz in the last few months I have been putting on like a few pounds a week! That seems extraordinarily odd. I mean usually you would have to eat like 10,000 cals a day or something to put on weight like that and I have NOT been eating like that. I mean most days I eat about a cup of shredded wheat for breakfast and admittedly I do have mcd's a few times a week but I eat a kids meal! small hamburger small fry and diet coke and then for dinner I eat VERY small portions. I do eat some cookies or a small bowel of frozen yogurt every night after dinner but we are talking 2 or 3 small cookies or a half cup of yogurt. NOT binge eating here and when I ate like that BEFORE I either didn't gain or LOST weight when I was exercising so I don't get it. I am wondering if with my surgery and the hormones and everything my body is going loopy!

I know it isn't my thyroid as I have had it checked MANY times!

I just hope I can get it under control cuz I worked SO dang hard to lose and I wasn't to my goal even and now I am almost back to where I started! :(

Anyway gotta run get the girls!

See yall later!

Sitting here waiting for court with DBF's sister. Cousins's parents are a few chairs down. I'm so nervous right now and I'm hoping they do not release her back to her parents. Ahh! I hate court!

Hiya Ladies! Wow, lots of things going on this last week.

Kelly, so sorry for the loss of your uncle. Your family will be in my prayers.

Sara - hope things go well in court.

Well, figure I can't let the week go by without adding a little of my own drama. Tuesday morning I was sitting at work and my back started hurting, then my sides, then before I knew it I was in pretty bad pain. Before I know it, I'm calling my doctor (who of course was out of town), but they get me an appt. with another doctor.

In the meantime I Google my symptoms and have pretty much decided that I have kidney stones. So I decide to drink mass quantities of water (what the heck, it can't hurt can it?).

Finally, after about 4 hours the pain suddenly subsides. I still have a doctor appointment so I go. Describe the pain, they do x-rays, consider sending me over to the hospital for a CT scan. Anyway, they decide that I must have had a small kidney stone, I drank tons of water and that helped it pass.

So I now get to drink tons of water everyday and must go to the ER if it happens again so they can do a CT scan. And let me add.....passing a kidney stone feels sorta like labor pains, not quite as bad, but pretty similar. OUCH!!!

Good morning and TGIF!

Here's to hoping today is a better day for all of us! Yesterday did NOT turn out very well for me and it sounds like it was not the best day for anyone else either.

Sara I hope things went well in court!! I can only imagine how nerve wracking that must have been and I am sure the courts must have been sensible or at least I HOPE they would! I will be anxious to hear your update and still praying for you all!

Alison how scary and frustrating for you! I had that happen to me when I was pg with Katy. That was one of the worst pains I ever had and I thought I WAS in labor. I was 20 weeks pg and they said they couldn't do much for me and I just had to pass it. MAN did that suck! I am glad you are feeling better and hope you don't have a recurrence cuz it is miserable I know! A lot of times they can do a laser and break them up so you don't have to pass large ones but if they are small they will just have you try to pass them. Hope you feel better today!

As for me like I said mom was in a really bad mood yesterday and everyone was really stressed out and so I was glad to get out of work and then I guess the sewer backed up at one of my parents rental houses so that was the LAST thing they needed on top of dealing with everything with my uncle. Then Shane promised me he was going to make me dinner last night and he usually takes the girls to swim well last night he never even showed up and so I started dinner but the last time he made spaghetti he used up ALL the noodles and I had made the sauce but when I went to make the noodles there was NONE. So I called him and told him I needed him to run to the store and pick some up and then he yelled at me. I was NOT happy. It was not like he was at work and he had been at his partners house ALL day yesterday. They were just going over stuff but he promised me he would be home and it just kind of ruined my day. He was being a real butt head and yesterday really kind of sucked. Then we got a message that swim was cancelled anyway which was fine with me cuz I was not really in the mood to go anyway at that point.

The only good part was the girls and I watched Alice and Edward Scissor hands but it wasn't much of a birthday. The ONLY good part was all my friends on here wishing me happy birthday! You guys and my friends on facebook are awesome and really made my day. If it wasn't for you all yesterday would have really sucked.

Today I am going to help with the girls school and it is supposed to rain yet again so I hope it doesn't spoil the girls fun and then tonight we are doing a makeup practice at swim and I will be anxious to see what the girls are swimming tomorrow. Hopefully they will send out the preliminary meet program. We were supposed to get together with my parents to celebrate our birthdays but they have been in such downer moods I honestly don't really feel like it anymore.

Anyway I hope everyone ELSE has a better day today and talk to you all soon!

Hi all! Just wanted to give a quick update as I'm swampd here at work with having Monday off and being out yesterday.

So we get to the main court house and can't find out what room it's going to be in. After going up and down the stairs we finally ask at the clerks window and find out it's at the old court house. We hurry over to that one and find the right court room. We see the aunt and uncle sitting in the hallway. They are giving us dirty looks. After about an hour some lady comes out to talk to the uncle but we can't hear what they are saying. Then the aunt and uncle get up and leave. We go ask the bailiff (sp) what's going on and they tell us that it's been moved to the Children's Court in Monteray Parkat 1:30pm (about 2 hours away from the court we were at).

I had originally planned to just take the morning off but I wans't going to let SIL drive all that way by herself plus I told Cousin I would be there. So I call in to work and we head down.

The left Cousin in the foster home until they can check out SIL's home and do background checks on her and her husband. They go back in a few weeks to see if she can go with SIL. Then in July there is a date for trial. Not sure what happenes then because this is just dependency court and not criminal court against the uncle yet.

Hi all!! I love this little group we have here! i love reading all that is happneing in each's lives.. well so thursday was stressfull for me, as well as everyone else :headache:. but, thank goodness it's friday :woohoo:,and i am going to release that stress after work at disneyland!!!! :goodvibes

so check this out-i had a car accident(old news), got new car, new car's glove box won't open--what's that saying if one thing goes wrong ,everthing goes wrong --or something like that, maybe murphy's law? ok well soo they had to crawl through the back of the dashboard to crack open the glove box--sure enough the freakin lock was broken-no wonder it would not open. anyhow that is now fixed :woohoo:...BUT it gets worse. new car's STARTER, went out, i just got this car 2 weeks ago, so had the starter fixed(yesterday). it was $400 dollars.. Then i had flat tire(last week), and now need new wheels, i wonder what else is going to go wrong!! :scared1:

ohh and if that's not the topping on the cake--i am waiting for pay day to pay my credit card bill, witch is under $400, but still, that's alot:scared1:--then again i guess that is what credit cards are for right? but on the bright side at least i have a job to pay for all this! :yay: But all the stress does build on me, and the one thing i worry about is getting another stress anxiety attack like i did last month-witch landed me in the hospitol --they though i was having a heartattack..but like i said going to disneyland after work to scream on matterhorn as loud as i can and let all that steam and pent up stress OUT!!!

*sigh* what a week. even for a short week.

and eveyone else, glad that the day is looking better! :woohoo:

sam-- my dad gets kidney stones.. they told hinm to drink lemon juice, like pure lemon juice with a litle water. no sugar. the citric acid like helped to break them up or something..look into it-maybe it might help you

OUCH!!!

No more drama ladies please!!
ahh, self diagnosing via the internet. :thumbsup2 What no post on the community boards? "My arm fell off and my friends now call me stumpy, should I go to the ER?" :rotfl2:

Glad things passed on thru, but OUCH no fun!

Here's to hoping today is a better day for all of us! Yesterday did NOT turn out very well for me.... it wasn't much of a birthday. Then in July there is a date for trial. Not sure what happens then because this is just dependency court and not criminal court against the uncle yet.

It's sad how long and drawn out the process is dealing with the courts. Life can not be put on hold to wait for their time table.

woohoo for Disneyland and de-stressing!

I agree with the lemon juice, I have read there are a few dietary measures that help prevent and treat kidney stones. Google away!

Today was a day to catch up on laundry, ran out of quarters before I ran out of laundry. DH came home looked and laughed with the comment that even though I did all that laundry the mountain is still there. Well yeah but... it's not anything we actually need until fall (jeans, comforter)..:rolleyes1 The mountain shall stay! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I have to kick dh's booty into gear to work on his paperwork for the year. Boy can that man procrastinate! YESH!

The boys are wandering off to my sister's house to play video games with her oldest (My J and her J are 6 months apart) and friends. They have a basement to contain the noise (and smell) of teenage boys. Ahhh, enjoying the quiet and listening to the wind flutter the leaves outside my window, birds chirping and the last rumblings of rush hour traffic.
