Chase Freedom Rewards - Grocery

I see the next quarter is grocery stores - what does that really include? Is it grocery purchases only or anything bought at a grocery store? Is WalMart considered a grocery store? Thanks.

Most credit cards I have used have a store category that is grocery so places like Kroger, Publix, etc. I have never found a store that considers Wal Mart grocery. It can't be by item because the transaction isn't sent to Chase by item. It is sent by store.

You can call Chase to be sure, but I too think it would be "pure" grocery stores only. When department stores were featured in the past it did not include discount stores or wholesale clubs.

Agree with others, the transactions for Walmart or Target are not sent to Chase as "grocery" so therefore, you won't earn the bonus 5%. I do all my grocery shopping at those type stores too so it's a huge bummer.

I called Chase last year and Walmart and Target do not qualify as grocery stores.

That really is a bummer because on their list of stores it list both Target and WalMart.

On the bright side though, you can buy gift cards at the grocery stores and they will count towards the 5% grocery store purchase.

I asked just recently about that, and they said that it really depends on what THAT STORE chooses to use in it's coding... So, if you're shopping at one of the newer Super WalMarts with groceries, that store might code it as a grocery store. I looked at my year end statement, and there were some Targets listed in my grocery section.

I have this question also since we have exactly 2 stores to buy groceries..SuperWalMart and a little local store called Lowes. Is there a place on Chase's website where you can put in your zip code or something and see what stores qualify?
