I liked Lexxiefern's unintentional pun on most of us being"taken", which, sadly, is often the case for one time, at least. I make it clear with our guests that the room is free but they are responsible for our meals as payment, either as groceries or in the restaurants, whichever they choose. I have one family member who refused, saying that we were financially "better off" than they, so we should pay for everything--they were dis-invited, thank you very much! So, yes, that does happen, but no one wants to force them to take a vacation for pennies on the dollar!
My one sister is a gem--she insisted on paying for everything when she slept on our floor for one night! (a ressie snafu) However, when family/friends request that we follow their vacation timeline and they decide on the accommodations and location, then everything is on a cash basis only. That will usually take care of most people who invite themselves to Florida on my points--I use my points as gifts, but good taste demands that you don't ask for a gift, and most definitely you don't dictate the size of it!!

, they are not arriving until 11:00pm that Sat night. We booked BCV because we knew their kids would love SAB and all that. We ended up canceling that studio and told them that they needed to stay off-site for that night. We explained that the rack rate for that night was $289 + tax and that because weekend points are so high (32 pts), it was going to cost us over $100 out of pocket (dues) and we didn't feel that we should pay because they couldn't plan better. There is more to this saga, but would take WAAAAAAY to long to go into here!
