I liked Lexxiefern's unintentional pun on most of us being"taken", which, sadly, is often the case for one time, at least. I make it clear with our guests that the room is free but they are responsible for our meals as payment, either as groceries or in the restaurants, whichever they choose. I have one family member who refused, saying that we were financially "better off" than they, so we should pay for everything--they were dis-invited, thank you very much! So, yes, that does happen, but no one wants to force them to take a vacation for pennies on the dollar!
My one sister is a gem--she insisted on paying for everything when she slept on our floor for one night! (a ressie snafu) However, when family/friends request that we follow their vacation timeline and they decide on the accommodations and location, then everything is on a cash basis only. That will usually take care of most people who invite themselves to Florida on my points--I use my points as gifts, but good taste demands that you don't ask for a gift, and most definitely you don't dictate the size of it!!
