Charged for resort parking when you had no car??

I'm curious how often this happens.

Is the guard's gate area remotely (and automatically) reading MBs in the vehicle when you arrive by car? If you arrive by Uber, will they read your band (even if you don't present it) and charge you for parking?

I realize that you can call and have the charge removed if it's wrong. But I'm curious as to how often and why guests are charged for parking if they have no car.

My parents were charged for parking when they were dropped off via Lyft. My Aunt was charged when dropped off via Magical Express. And my boss was charged when dropped off via Uber. It's a good idea to check no matter how you arrive. All were removed with no hassle, but still shouldn't happen.

My wife and I are DVC members so we are not supposed to be charged. I have read that in the beginning some DVC members were charged by accident but apparently they fixed that problem. My wife and I do not put a credit card on our reservation and always get a print out of our room folio from the front desk when we check out. My wife and I are local and stay at Disney 3 to 5 times a year. So far so good.

Did the charges show up in the MDE app like other MB charges, or do you have to wait for the final folio before check out to see parking charges? We never have a car at WDW, but take Uber a lot, and usually only follow the charges in MDE to make sure everything is OK, and have stopped worrying about getting the final printout/email since it has become pretty sporadic for us anyway.

How ridiculous. If Disney is going to enact this parking fee, the least they could do is get it together enough to not charge guests who DON'T have a car. We arrive in 8 days (yay!!) by Magical Express. They will be getting an earful from me if I have a parking charge on my folio!

I can happen but I can't call it common. We've had about 8 Resort stays since parking fees were implemented. Counting split stays, etc. Only 1 were we charged for parking incorrectly (or period, since we never drive) and we often arrive via Ride Share. It was very easy to get it removed and I got a credit to the card used for our final payment (I didn't notice it till check out)

On the converse, several times there have been people who drive and are not charged for parking. Though I don't believe you see them scrambling to call Disney to correct THAT mistake, LOL

So you have to check but it's not intentional like they are trying to scam and grab fees just willy nilly or anything like that. It's simply human error. The guards are the ones who are supposed to record vehicle usages. They aren't particularly good at it. For whatever reason. I'm sure it's not hard to come up with umpteen reasons why they make errors notating who has a vehicle. Not that it's a good excuse for the errors, just A reason. It would be great if they could come up with a foolproof, error-proof way.

I do think they could devise something they give to the guards that is given to a guest who is driving their own vehicle in, like a barcoded parking pass or something. The guard could scan that, attach it to the guest's record and then it would be noted electronically that the guest has a car. If the guest did something unusual like return the car part way through their trip this guest would have to be proactive to let them know, otherwise you are just charged per night. I mean, there are going to be some cases where the guest has to take action but they'd be exceptions not the norm, right?

I used Lyft several times this June but we weren’t charged. We didn't have a credit card on file but I checked anyway.

I was charged for parking when I had only entered the resort on park buses. It was the second half of a split stay, so we entered the first resort on DME and were not charged parking for our one night there (CSR). The rest of the trip was Pop where we were charged for parking.

I caught it on our last night and they reversed the charges at the front desk. Then they still charged me parking for the last night. 🤦‍♀️ Emailing billing sorted that out.

We weren't charged when we kept our car on-site back in March/April. I didn't even realize the guards were supposed to be monitoring car usage – I just assumed since we did online check-in and never told anyone at the front desk we drove, that they wouldn't know to charge us.

We drove a rental car from Ft Lauderdale. Dropped off luggage, then that afternoon we turned the car in at the car care center. We were charged for parking, but the front desk removed it when I explained. And showed the car pickup and drop off times.

Why give them an earful? It certainly isn't something the CM at the front desk puts on or adds to your account - if you see it, say something and they'll remove it.

Because I don't think I should have to spend my vacation fixing an issue that shouldn't need to be fixed! They have record of me arriving and leaving on their Magical Express bus! I get that guards mess up, but how are they messing it up with people that never even came through the guard shack?

Also, when I say "earful," I don't mean I will be yelling at the front desk person. What I would more likely do is shoot guest services an email expressing my frustration.

My only guess, giving them the benefit of the doubt that they aren't adding it to all guests, is it's a number entry issue. 1245 instead of 1345, that type of thing.

We got charged for parking - despite my saying at the front desk that the rental car we were using was only for luggage drop off during our arrival at the resort - we were headed to return it to the Car Care Center.

I did just have to call to correct it - but it should not have been a mistake in the first place. That angered me - and given it was already a change I thought was unnecessary for any reason but their bottom line - it was a bad mark against Disney for me. Time is money at Disney - and me having to spend that 15 minutes dealing with this - just not cool.

I really despise this change to this day - and it did actually lead us to stay off-property the next trip. We will have a car - and the price difference with parking fees for 6 days is a real measurable number in the budget. It tipped the scale for us.

I got charged at the Poly for 1 night. I also did not have a car, and to boot I'm a DVC member and was staying on points. I arrived by Disney transportation. Called and had it cancelled, but no explanation was offered when I asked. These things sometimes happen.

Yep. Very easy to remove and the last thing to get upset about
It's not like they make you fight over it
I didn't notice the charge until I was home in Canada. It was a long distance call, actually had to be transferred once during the call before I got the right person. I didn't give anyone an earful, but seriously, I never registered a car and again DVC member staying on points.
