Charcoal grills

We definitely need a new grill, and I've been going thru ads here trying to find any good prices. My husband definitely wants a charcoal grill -- absolutely does not want gas. I'm wondering, do Webers ever go on sale anywhere, or are there stores that sell them that might have % off coupons that you can use on Webers?

I'm also wondering if anyone uses a different brand of grill. I saw a Menards ad that had a rectangular shaped grill w/486 sq in of cooking area, a slide out ash pan and adjustable charcoal rack for $69. It doesn't give the brand name, but it looks nice and it even has trays on the side to put things on.

Even though our old grill is a Weber, and it did the job for us, I don't know enough about grills to understand why Webers are always talked about as being the best.

Anyone have any advice? Any strong feelings pro or con about the charcoal grill you have? TIA!

After owning 2 Weber's, I would recommend a Weber (get the best model that you can afford). They don't wear out!

DH loves the Weber and pretty much sticks to them now. But here's a clue: he has yet to buy a new one! He's purchased at least 3 on Craigslist (I know...3? The man's obsessed ) because he learned very quickly that you can get anything from practically almost new ones to ones that look bad but just need a good cleaning, but all for a REALLY REALLY good price. He did have to order new handles for one, but that was it. Now he's sworn off paying retail for any grill, ever. Just do some research. Now and again he does see someone trying to pass off a pretty old model as "almost new" with almost new pricing.

Since this is the budget board, I would buy the cheapest one you can stand for right now, then wait for the season-end clearance sales to start up (probably around July for grills, even though that's hardly the end of the season!)

Go to your local post office and pick-up a moving packet--there is a 10% discount coupon in the packet for Lowes. This was posted somewhere on the budget board. At first the sales guy at Lowes said it was not good on Weber grills--I responded it is not listed as an exclusion. I bought a Q320 at Lowes and saved $37.

Good point! Now is not really the time to be shopping grills or lawn mowers. Wait until September.

We bought our new grill about a month ago. It has two cooking areas, one is gas, the other is charcoal. It is awesome because we have the best of both. We have the gas for throwing food on quick after work, and we have the charcoal for low, slow cooking, or cooking a bunch of stuff over a longer period of time. I don't know what kind it is, but it came from Lowes.

Webers are great grills. That said, I have a barrel style grill with a separate offset firebox for smoking & really like it. But, even the low-end version of this grill is more $ than a Weber Kettle.

Weber for us as well. We have 2. One is 25 years old and I buy replacement parts as they wear out. I keep it like new for very little per year. Lowes, Home Depot, and Target sell the replacement parts and they are easy to install. The second one is a combination gas and charcoal and the gas is only used to light the charcoal. We have had it 10 years and have not had to replace a thing on it yet.
