I was just looking at Character Meals on the
Disneyland website!
There are five:
-Ariel's Grotto - Princess Breakfast and Lunch in DCA
- Disney's PCH Grill - Surf's Up Breakfast at Paradise Pier Hotel
- Goofy's Kitchen - Buffet Breakfast or Dinner at Disneyland Hotel
- Plaza Inn - Minnie & Friends Breakfast at Disneyland
- Storyteller's Cafe - Chip 'n Dale Critter Breakfast at Grand Californian Hotel
So if you don't want breakfast, you have Ariel's Grotto and Goofy's Kitchen. We've done Ariel's with my girls, but with a little boy, Goofy's might be your best bet.
And yes, I would book in advance just to ensure you get the time slot that you would like, especially if going during a busy season.
