Character Costumes from the 1970's

Pooh still had that pot on his head in the '80s. Even as a kid I thought it was weird/odd. Ah, the challenges of trying to catch your favorite character. Never did get my picture taken with Mickey.... And I had to hug Donald's butt.

I have questions about it logistically...Pooh never wore a honey pot hat in any of the cartoons did he?

Maybe it was a way to get air circulation in the suit.

Love to see those pics - brings back memories although my family visited Disneyland during this time as we lived in So Cal from 1970 - 1973.

<-------The pic next to my name is a 1970's Mickey - although hard to see - so small.

Thanks for posting.

It actually so a taller person than the Pooh costume is could wear it. Their head was in the little hunny pot. The "hunny" letters were screened so they could see out.

I grew up watching Welcome to Pooh Corner on the Disney Channel. No, Pooh never had a pot on his head.

Wow! I didn't know that. But why didn't they just make the costume taller?

Because Pooh is supposed to be little. Just helps with the illusion. If you look at Pooh's hands in that costume, they are basically just little flippers, operated by hand paddles by the CM inside.

Yup, that was the cartoonish look they were going for then - big heads and short bodies! A lot of the characters wore hats with bits of mesh stuff on them to see through. You can see it in the picture of the Mad Hatter - the brownish patch on his yellow hatband is where the person's eyes are.

They've updated the costumes by the time of your pictures, but Mickey and Minnie were also shorter and wore hats in the 1960s: http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Mickey_and_Minnie_Costumes_Through_the_Years

Those are awesome!

Who are the cats? Maybe the scat cats from Aristocats?

I can see it now! I assumed it was a little fan that tried to circulate air up there. I used to work in a bookstore and I had to dress up as the Cat in the Hat. Believe it or not it had a small switch with a fan...didn't help much as it was stifling hot.
