Changing Flight on SWA

We're booked on an early evening flight on SWA next month. We booked that time because DH would be working that day. Now it turns out he will not be working that day (or any other day, since he lost his job yesterday), so after deciding that we will still go on our trip since it's paid for already anyway, our next thought was that maybe we could get an earlier flight that day. Will SWA do that do you think? How much will they charge to switch us?

No fee to change a flight on SW and it's very easy to do. If you booked online, you can use the "change reservation" tab on their website and do it yourself.

Be aware that if the fare for the flight you want is more than what you originally booked, you will have to pay the difference; but if it's less, you will get a credit back that is valid for 12 months.

Cats mom got it right...easy to do and no charge unless the fare goes up. Southwest's consumer friendly policies are one of the major reasons I fly them most often.

I also have a question about changing flights on SWA-I want to change my flight to a day earlier than when we are supposed to go. Will I get charged for that? Is it different than just changing times in the same day? And will my early bird check in still apply?

Nope, changing days is just as easy as changing times.

I've never purchased early bird myself, so you might want to double check my facts; but I believe as long as you keep the same confirmation number and make the changes 25+ hours before both the original and the new flight departs, you keep it.

From another post regarding taking advantage of a reduced fare, but the process is essentially the same...

From the home screen at SWA, I scroll all the way to the bottom where in small print you'll find "travel tools". Click on travel tools then go into "change a reservation". From there it pretty much is simple....enter current confirmation number, click on it to confirm, choose same flight at the lesser rate. In the end, you'll have same confirmation number with a ticketless travel credit.
