This may be the wrong place forthis, but I wasn't sure where to post it.

Has anyone else seen the article in USA Today today about the change to Winnie the Pooh? Why on earth would they get rid of Christopher Robin and replace him with a 6 year old girl???????

It said something to the affect that these timeless characters needed a breath of fresh air. If they are timeless characters doesn't that mean they don't need a breath of fresh air?? And if all these children grow up woth Winnie the Pooh like this then what will they pass on to the next generation?? Winiie the Pooh is a CLASSIC and should be kept that way! Writing new stories is one thing, but doing away with an original character is another. Besides isn't "Christopher Robin" the one who "made up" the 100 acre wood and all his friends there???

If that is indeed true, then I would strongly oppose it as well. Disney is really beginning to tilt towards girls in its marketing. There are numerous princess meals, but no hero meals that might appeal to boys. I know that they used to have a villains meal, but apparently that was too intense for small children of both genders. They are also starting to heavily market the fairies, which also targets girls. Removing Christopher Robin would be yet another blow to boys. Let me add that I would not have any qualms about Christopher Robin having a girlfriend or sister who could also share in the new adventures of Pooh.

I can't believe they are doing this, but I saw this in the USA Today as well. What would possess them to add to an already lucrative brand. The article says that the Pooh brand brings in $1 Billion annually.

Here is a quote from the article:

"Disney's Kanter says the new cartoon represents not an abandonment of an old, familiar world, but rather an alternate universe for Pooh and his crew.

"Christopher Robin is still out there in the woods, playing," she says. "We hope people will fall for this new tomboyish girl. The last thing we want to be is the ones who brought the franchise down.""

Since when did Pooh need an alternate universe? Why would you tweak something that is loved by many and is bringing in a billion a year? :sad2:

For anyone who hasn't seen it go to:
www.usatoday.com
Pooh is an 80 year old classic. Haven't they ever heard "If it's not broke don't fix it"???
Pooh is one of my favorites. Eveything about those stories and those characters are timeless. I'm so disappointed. Who really thinks this is a good idea???

I personally think this is a horrible idea. I sometimes have to wonder what these Disney people are thinking.... especially the ones who make the movie and show decisions. I love Disney do not get me wrong but why they do what they do sometimes, is beyond me :confused3

I wish they wouldn't mess with Pooh and Christopher Robin. They are a classic pair that has been together for 80 years.

I think it is a HORRIBLE idea, but I also think Disney is the absolute leader in fixing things that are not broken! :guilty:

Does anyone know who we could write to complain about this change? If enough people speak up about it perhaps they'll keep CR and instead make a whole new Pooh with that bogus alternate universe. Or at least give CR a sister who finds Pooh and has her own adventures but still keeping CR in there.

They can Not do away with Christpher Robin!

I agree!!! I am a mom to 2 boys and boys are definitely getting the short end!! There were many things we skipped, because they appealed only to girls!!!

Will they call her Robin Christopher? ;)

For those interested, you can find the USA Today article here. I wonder if they are trying to make the show more attractive to girls because boys may "outgrow" Pooh earlier than girls do. :confused3

All I can think of is the Simpsons' "Poochie" episode:

Bart: Hey, Lis, look! They're adding a new character to Itchy &
Scratchy! [reads] Poochie the dog?!
Lisa: [unfooled] Adding a new character is often a desperate attempt to
boost low ratings.

I always thought the Pooh adventures all took place in Christopher Robin's imagination . . . does this mean that Christopher Robin is starting to think about girls? (Of course, he'd be about 85 by now, so maybe it's about time. )

If children didn't change, then there would be no reason to change children's classics.

I 100% agree with you........mom of only boys feeling left out! :confused3 :sad2:

Wow, I hope they don't do it. It they wanted to appeal to more girls for whatever reason why not add a character (I'm note ven sure I support this but seems better than their idea!). Christopher Robin must have friends. But to take Christopher Robin away is ridiculus.

I like the idea of Robin Christopher. I don't recall the gender of Christopher Robin to be particularly significant to the story.

Not sure how they can "change" the tale that's been around for so long. This is simply another story. The original will always be there for anyone who wants it. Think of it as more of the story...not re-writing history.

So, are you saying that you agree with the change??

I'm not really sure what you're getting at here. Sure older children have changed a lot, but I don't really believe that little ones have changed that much. For that matter, even if children have changed....what does that have to do with the child in Winnie the Pooh being a boy or a girl?

As far as I'm concerned it's making a change to a children's classic that is not needed.

The gender of Christopher Robin isnt the issue. As someone else stated, Christopher Robin was the one who came up with the "Hundred Acre Woods". That is just pathetic that they would want to take him out of the stories! I have a DS2 who is obsessed with Pooh. Pooh this, Eeyore that, dont get me started on Tigger...Anyways, I think that we like him watching it because it isnt a "girl/princess story". They are a cast of all (except Kanga) guys and my son (it is funny but you can actually tell this) thinks that he is one of the guys when watching it. He was too excited when he had his pic taken in Disney with Tigger, Pooh and Eeyore. I guess my point is that if they put in a girl, they will then start to lose the boy demographic. I know that even though my son loves the characters, we wont buy any Pooh movies with the girl. Its just the way it is...so sad!

I don't see it as children changing. It is just another attempt at both marketing and being PC, IMO. Next thing you know there are going to be guys in princess costumes. Wouldn't want to offend anyone or leave anyone out.

This is the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time.
