Changes to Land Border Entry for Canadians with Positive Test

I can't believe the rules are so dumb it's easier to just get a positive result and travel afterwards with that, like what?!

Because you won't be infecting anyone if you have recovered from Covid and enough time hasn't passed for you to be reinfected.

In theory, but reinfection is rampant now too and previous infections provide less protection than vaccination (especially boosted) according to pretty much anything I've read.

It's a dumb rule and Canadians should have the right to quarantine at home without being fined for simply entering the country inflected. Full stop.

Dumb rule?Maybe you'd like it better if we weren't allowed to travel at all because of people wanting their cake and eating it too."simply entering the country infected"......SMH
If you don't leave the country, you can stay at home all you like.

You're honestly ok with fineing sick Canadians crossing the border?

Replace COVID with any other disease or condition and try to make the same argument. If it still makes sense I'd suggest you take a moment and reflect on life.

Good luck and safe travels!

Please update us on your experience at the border when you have a chance.
Hi there, we landed in Buffalo and went to Walgreens for our test. The test was very quick and the results only took an hour or so. Luckily we were both negative and at the border we just breezed through, the border guard scanned our passports and looked at our negative test results. I am still very curious about what happens with a positive test result. Good luck to all who are travelling.

This is an incredibly helpful and informative thread. We've all learned so much and been kept up to date with all developments. Please watch the politics and esp personal comments. It's crucial threads like these continue and be allowed to be updated daily for everyone's benefit. Just a very pls watch your comments so everyone can benefit and be informed. Up to date info is so critical right now. We want to keep that info stream flowing without any problem. I'm not a mod and will likely never be one. I'm just an old contributor who truly appreciates all the effort that goes into these posts and has watched other helpful threads go down fast. Thanks for your patience.

I don't think anyone is really having their cake and eating it too. Sink or swim maybe.

The difference with this wave is that none of the provincial governments are willing to put restrictions in place to contain omicron, but the federal restrictions remain. Some people are fine with that and others not so much. But regardless of what people think the fact is it's out of control so the federal restrictions and fines are not working. Several CMOH have said we are all getting this virus.

If our own medical officers are telling us we're all testing positive why treat Canadians who test positive after a flight differently from one that tests positive after work or school?

I'm "fine" with people being responsible for their actions instead of trying to blame everyone and anyone else. You know what's at stake BEFORE you leave,so be ready to pay the piper. Here's something that makes sense and maybe it's news to some ,but,YOU ARE dealing with COVID,not a cold, so try if you can, dealing with that, and I'll suggest YOU reflect on reality, here and now.You are given a chance and choice to act responsibly instead of the gov't making the decision for you,but obviously ,that was or is too much to ask.

The fact is we're NOT all testing positive. If it's "out of control" it's because most don't put in the effort and just cave in because it's "too hard".Stop looking for someone to blame ,like whichever level of gov't that works for your point of view at the time, and be ready to be responsible. The reality is the more people you are exposed to,the more chance you will be infected and pass it on to someone that isn't vaccinated or is affected with it on a more serious level. Not to mention going places that choose to deal with it by burying their heads in the sand like it doesn't exist at all and "fudge" the real numbers. Then after you're infected[not you personally] you want to waltz right back home like you did nothing wrong and continue to spread the virus?Quarantine at home? That's a laugh......The same people that think it's ok to come back after travelling and cross the border while being positive, are going to isolate?LMAOI guess to truly get a handle on the sitation the gov't will have to get tough and make laws because it's obvious some aren't able or ready to be reponsible for their actions
No one wants this thread closed. The back and forth is not changing anyone’s mind.

And yes, if you have kids in school/daycare, work in schools/daycare, are in anyway in contact with anyone connected to kids, you are going to get this strain (so the majority of the population).

Given the previous statement, and the fact that one can continue to test positive for months, it is helpful for those wishing to travel even months from now, that the thread remain active.

I have no problem with travelling, being tested positive coming or going is different and people that think it's ok to do so,I do

Let’s refocus the thread on the information instead of the motivation. Hopefully once spring rolls around we’ll be on the other side of the current wave and we can all hope that this is the last winter where restrictions are so severe.

it sounds like justification to do as you please, to me.The fact is we're NOT all testing positive. That's a laugh......The same people that think it's ok to come back after travelling and cross the border while being positive, are now going to isolate?LMAOI guess to truly get a handle on the situation the gov't will have to get tough and make laws and remove some options, because it's obvious some aren't able or ready to be responsible for their actions with the options given
Not only is this offensive and patently untrue in many areas it’s completely against the guidelines, so arguing about it would just get a this thread closed down. Several people have expressed a need for it to stay open . Maybe you could respect that .

Can you just stop.

I respect the rules, here and elsewhere. If someone gets to express their beliefs, why can't i?because you don't agree? If it wasn't said in the first place,i wouldn't have felt to respond.

I can assure you I am not a part of any “clique” . I have a far different take than you and believe my points to be well considered. The trouble with that is we have been asked not to debate here or we get threads closed down . So I will put you on ignore and move on, and hope that this thread can stay informative and open for others.

There's been plenty against the guidelines that has been allowed in this post;it's just my opinion and the silent majority's that's different, and that won't be allowed because it's arguementative.
