Changes to Dining Including Several DVC Locations

We are a family of 8 adults and 2 infants. Our dining plan resevervations have been made for quite awhile for Jan. 3rd-8th. Will I have to know at least 48 hours ahead of time just how many will be showing up or risk forking up $10 a piece for the no shows????:scared1:

I think that overall, this is going to be a good thing. It is relatively easy to game the system and have multiple reservations at the same time, so hopefully it will deter some of that. Although, there will still be astute planners who will block reservations and hold them until the day or two before and then cancel, but that will at least free up some tables for walk-ups.

It will be interesting how the official Disney policy reads. As a PP stated, many times a reservation is made for a certain number of people, but at the last minute, one or two may not make it because they are still in line for TSM (:rotfl:). Will there be a charge for those absentees? Or, if the majority show up, will that be waived? We had reservations for CRT in February, but on the day of the dinner, I had a fever of 103, body aches and chills. We were able to cancel without a penalty and our initial payment was refunded, but will this new policy recognize those kinds of situation?

I wonder if fewer no shows will result in it being even harder to get in via walkin/standby.....?

Last week I was standing at the opening to AL. There was a woman behind me "teaching" a family "how to do Disney" One statement

"We make three or four reservations for all meals so we can decide at the last minute where to eat"

With "abuse" like this Disney has to do something...

I never understood how it was an "abuse". Disney doesn't hold open those seats. they are quick to tell you that an adr is not a reservation. You are seated at the first available table. so in theory if disney has a bunch of open tables it should not be because they are waiting on reservations.

And its not going to stop the mult reservationist (yep I'm one) from making multiply adr's. We will still make them since we've got 6 months out to play and just make sure to cancel 24 hours ahead. so you're still having no luck.

seems an easy way to get more money.

I have a question how is this going to free up anything? I'll be honest I am one that always booked multiple ADRS for a single day cause the 180 day thing is ABSOLUTELY ABSURD, I've got 3 kids I can't plan on there modes that far out. And I always tried to do my best to cancel the day before or the day of. But how is this going to open up the ADRS for the rest of us. There will still be people booking 3 or 4 ADRS for the same day and it wont open anything up till 24 hours out.

The only way I can see this helping is for walk ups.

GET RID OF THE 180 DAYS OUT, that will help open even more

:lmao: NJORE we must have been posting at the same time. Look above you. Or it must be that we're both in Jersey!! Great minds think alike.

Get the heck out of the way elderly disabled person, I have a 7pm ressie at 1900 Park Fair and I don't want to be charged $10 for missing it!! <pushes old lady and her walker to the ground and bounds onto the monorail before her>

Is this effective for all reservations after 10/26 or all reservations MADE after 10/26? I have 9 ADR's for our 10 day trip in November. Would this apply?

I am trying to get official clarification on the list, and the word Signature dining, will report back when I do.

If you already have a reservation and didn't give a credit card for it, then you won't be charged. My understanding is that if you make a reservation at the affected restaurants after the policy change goes into effect, you will be asked for a credit card number and told about the cancellation charge. The policy should not be retroactive to bookings that already exist. (It could, if Disney called everyone with those reservations and got credit card numbers, but I don't see that happening.)

It is helpful if it discourages people from making bookings they don't intend to keep. Sure, some people will still make multiple bookings and cancel a day in advance, but (1) fewer people will do that if they know they have to remember to cancel and (2) people who call the night or morning before in hopes of getting a reservation they couldn't get previously will be more likely to get one.

If this policy makes it easier to get ADRs, then I like it. We always make one ADR per night and 99% of the time we use it, so it shouldn't change the way we book ADRs and dine.

If it doesn't improve my ability to get the ADRs at the place / times I want, then it is only an added burden which causes less flexibility for the 1% of the time we may not make it to an ADR (sudden illness, etc.)

We sometimes book our ADRs for 7 even though we are a family of 5 because my aunt and uncle from Florida plan to drive in and join us for dinner...there are times, though, that they have a change in plans and can't make it - and we don't always know 24 hours in advance. I hope that if 5 out of 7 show we would not be penalized for the 2 no-shows? :confused3 I have asked this question before when I booked an ADR that required a cc and was told that if the majority of the party shows up there is no penalty. I hope that is true!

Wasn't there an issue in the past where someone was selling their ADRs on ebay?

About 10 years ago there was a group called Howie's Angels. You can google them, but basically they would get on the phone as soon as the dining line opened (no online reservations back then), book up as many CRT reservations as they could, and then use their website to "auction" them off to families they considered "deserving," I think the family had to put a post on the website stating why they were deserving.

They're likely the reason why everyone now has to prepay for CRT and WDW won't allow changing of the names on ADRs.

From the wording of the announcement it applies to all reservations MADE on or after 10/26. I'm also not sure how they can possibly contact everyone who made a reservation for all the listed restaurants already and ask them for a credit card number. Some are afraid that Disney already has their credit card number on file from making previous credit card guarantee reservations or linking their resort reservation - but there are also a lot of reservations made by persons who did neither.

I shared this info because several of the restaurants are located in DVC resorts.

I don't want the Mods to close it and they are being generous in allowing us to discuss this since it a Dining change.

There are a couple of threads on other forums such as Theme Parks, etc. if you feel inclined to heatedly debate the wisdom of this decision.

Thanks everyone. :thumbsup2

It is for reservations made after the date, not reservations already made is my understanding.

I am trying to get official clarification on the list, and the word Signature dining, will report back when I do.

On the Restaurants board (Dining Reservations sub board) is posted an announcement that was provided by a known cast member who said it came from The Hub. The word "signature" does not appear in that announcement.

Thanks Nala, my Food and Beverage contact has moved to Aulani, to work, lucky duck.

I changed the info in my initial post to reflect what was share on Dining.

I can see this happening ... although in reverse, as most elderly in WDW have ECVs and will be running us over. :rotfl:

Which draws attention to another question raised here - how long past the ADR time will they consider the reservation abandoned? In general it's easy to get to our reservations on time, but the nature of Disney is to keep us waiting/entertained so is it our fault when we're delayed? Not always. You'd think that as seasoned DVC members we should be more relaxed in general and get to our ADRs on time, and yet distraction abounds in WDW.

Thank you Sammie, I wouldn't have known of this change without you posting it here - I very rarely visit the restaurants boards. I'm sure many of the other DVC members and posters feel the same.
