Changes Coming (Again) to Akershus

I recall the original buffet having many different types of cold mackerel, herring, and smoked salmon. There were also several types of cheeses. For the hot dishes I remember a lamb and cabbage dish, somewhat different than what is on the menu now, but equally delicious, mashed rutabagas, meatballs, mac and cheese, and I believe there were various cold cuts. There were many other hot dishes as well but I don't remember any of them, only that my entire family loved it.

I used to love the buffet at Akershus, but until I have kids I won't be stepping foot in the place. I think it's completely unfair and stupid that they didn't leave at least one meal princess-free.

We loved the breakfast here. The servers were great, and the princesses were very wonderful with all the kids around us. We are going again in Dec for breakfast. I thought about trying dinner there, but the menu doesn't look that great to DH (he hates fish) and I. I think we are just going to stick to the breakfast!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I would be thrilled if the buffet came back. YUMMERS!! We went in July and the food was ok but not what it had been, the princesses were ok (we don't have kids so we really went for the food) I would be thrilled if the original choices came back. Fingers crossed it will be for our next visit. When we were there everybody around us was very upset that the buffet was gone.

Just returned from a 6-day trip to Walt Disney World! My husband and I
went to Akershus to voice our request for the return of the Akershus
Buffet... (My favorite restaurant at WDW for many years!)... and to
our surprise the hostess standing just outside the entrance doors told
me that the old-style buffet with all it's wonderful dish choices was
returning on September 14th, 2005!!!!

Too late for our little trip... but I was very happy to hear it would
be coming back!

After more questions, the hostess said that the old favorite buffet
dishes would all be returning. Also, they were going to keep the
Princesses theme at each meal. "The best of both." she said.

This is good news indeed! I heard they were gonna make that another character dinner place (as if they don't already have dozens). This and Mexico are my two favorite places to eat at EPCOT, though Germany, France (especially the pastries), and the Land are very good too. I walked by the Akershus on Saturday when I was there and it was closed due to some refurbishing, but I didn't know they were gonna open it with the Norwegian buffett again. Sweet!

Yay I'm so excited they are bringing the buffet back!!!!! It became family tradition to eat there every time we went to Epcot and I'm just thrilled.

So, as usual, (and this is not a criticism) - the information you get from CMs on this sort of thing varies from CM to CM. They're not consistently supplied with correct info.

The hostess we spoke to the day after Akershus closed for refurb told us that appetizers would be buffet (koldbordt), but entrees would remain a la carte.

So who knows.

Maybe they'll get the hint and the princesses will magically disappear for lunch and/or dinner.

Oh yes please!!!!!!!!!!!! That would be great. I would love it to return to the original buffet. The reason that we all went to Akershus was for the great great food and the wondeful peaceful setting - nothing else! :)

I booked this lunch at the dining CM's urging, just in case I couldn't get CRT (which I did eventually get). I was thinking of canceling the Norway lunch because the food choices do not appeal to my family. If it turns to a buffet, though, it may be worth a shot! We have done both CRT and PSB breakfasts in one trip, so why not lunch? On Friday, I joined DDE, so I would get 20% off this meal. I just called Disney Dining, and the CM read off the family style menu, which was not a buffet, and sounds like the same thing posted on Deb's site. Please keep us updated, so I cancel asap if need be, and give someone else a shot.

Doubtful the princesses will be going anywhere, but to have the same buffet back it might be worth schmoozing with the crowned ones for awhile.

Besides, by keeping the princesses they keep the inflated price.

I'm glad they're bringing the buffet back, that menu looked more appealing to me. But I'm also glad they're keeping the princesses. :flower:

Do you know how ridiculous it feels to be a 30 year old woman with no children having to make small talk with women close to my age dressed as princesses?

No thanks! :p

I'm by myself, and I have five character meals planned, well actually my DBF is joining me for two of them, but three of them I'm solo. And I'm in my 20's, and my DBF is in his 40's.

Possible silly question here...but how will this change the breakfast? We have an ADR there in October and I really don't want pickled herring for my morning meal

I'm not a big fan of the princesses at all - and I'm not sure what they're doing in Norway anyway . . . :confused3

However, if they will just give me the buffet back, the girls can stick around - as long as they don't get in my way when I'm headed to the buffet! :rotfl:

I don't mind the character meals with the big furry critters-- that's cute.

But chatting with princesses is a bit ridiculous. ;)

I just called Disney Dining and they did say that Akerhus is reopening this Thursday 9/15, but it will still be the same family style dining, not the buffet. However, they may not have up to date information since the restaraunt has not reopened yet...

Please please please let the buffet reopen!!

Ok, I just made a PS for our small birthday dinner for 9/25 (and we're in our mid 20s with no kids ;) our real celebration is the F+W Fest). I'll be waiting to hear back about whether it goes to a buffet again or not...if not, we'll be cancelling.
