 We are scheduled to fly Delta Express in Sept. I checked our flights on-line to check for a drop in the fare. Everything has changed. Now the flight shows that it has changed to Delta Connections. It has the same departure and arrival times. I called them and they told me that we are still booked on Delta Express but the changes are scheduled for Sept. 1st so they will call me then. She also said that they are already booking new tickets on the Delta Connections flight.

I have questions...........

1: How do these planes compare ?? A Delta Express 737-200 and a Canadair Regional Jet. I was already concerned about the Express being a small plane, now the CRJ is even smaller (my mom is clausterphobic).

2: What will they do about overbooking?? The DE seats 107 and the CRJ seats 50 people..........the lady at Delta said "the CRJ flight will definately be over-booked". (Yet they are still selling tickets, because I inquired about tickets for my cousin)

Thank you very much for any input you have. This is only my second time flying and last time went very smoothly.

I am wondering now if the same thing is happening to me.....I became concerned today as my Delta flight in Sept has suddenly..."disappeared off the web site"..another flight at the same time on smaller plane is now listed. Our return flight from Orlando has disappeared completely, and another direct flight is listed two hours later. I called Delta to reconfirm and ask what was up and he said our reservation showed up fine on that Delta EXpress flight, he had no idea why it was not showing up on their website and he would be concerned too if it did not show up..if anyone has any further info on this I would appreciate it being posted here..thanks....

They told me this morning that they were having alot af flight changes that would be affective Sept. 1st.

I called Delta again after my parents came home and I could get their reservation number. They checked their flights and told me that they had not changed yet. I told them I was concerned because we have two reservations and wanted to be sure we would all be on the same plane coming home. (my parents are joining us a few days later, but we're all coming home together, and we bought my parents tix before we bought ours) When I explained our situation, she was really nice and said she would see about it for us. Come to find out, they had switched ours since I had talked to them this morning. So she said they would go ahead and get all of ours switched and assign our seats. It took a while but now we are together and the flight times only changed by five minutes each way.

Now I still have to worry about my mother being clausterphobic, isn't this plane is alot smaller? :(

Are our chances of being bumped worse now, because of them over-booking? This vacation is a gift to my parents and they only wanted to go for 4 nights, but now if they are bumped from their 7:00 am flight, they could lose a whole day. I understand we could've been bumped before, but the lady I talked to this morning said she didn't know what they are planning on doing, going from a 107 passenger plane to a 50 passenger plane on three flight schedules for that day. And they're still selling tickets!! Are they doing such a thing as selling new tickets for the DL Connection flight without reassigning everyone that already had tickets on DL Express? I am sorry for rambling. I really don't understand all this. Like I said in my earlier post this is our second time flying so I hope I am not sounding totally ignorant about it all.

Any advice from someone who knows?
Thanks!

Peggy S,

I emailed Delta here shortly ago to see if I can find out what is going on with this..after hearing what they told you I think I was given a soft soap answer to my concerms over my reservatins on Delta for Sept..so I want something directly from them on this..Thanks for all the info,it has been helpful in my attempt to find out what is going on...

Mouser,
I see you are from Ky. Any chance you are flying from Louisville? When are you going? We are going the 14th, it would be "a small world" if we are flying the same time wouldn't it?
Good luck on getting this taken care of. The first person I talked to wasn't as helpful as the second.

Beverly Lynn,
Thanks for the link! It had some good pictures.

I can't help but be really aggravated about the changes. We are driving an hour further than we had to so we could fly non-stop and now I am worried they will bump us to a connecting flight. Can they do that? Although we have gotten 78.00 in vouchers since we bought our tickets in May I really am not happy about the change in the plane. BTW, the flight we are on now is operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines. After looking at the Canadair Regional Jet I realize it is the same as the Comair plane we flew on before, and I was trying to avoid it this time by not booking a Delta Comair flight. Someone tell me if I am being unrealistic. Is it typical of airlines to do this? I understand that they will often change schedules but I didn't expect a change in aircraft.

Yes we are flying out of Louisville, and no it is not the same day.....:(

Peggy,

If the change of aircraft will cause you this much of a problem, look into rebooking with another carrier or from a different airport. The downsizing of an aircraft to a commuter plane is a valid reason for Delta to waive the cancellation fee. If they tell you on the phone they cannot, get in touch with Delta's Customer Relations (404-715-1450) in Atlanta.

Hey all you fellow Kentuckians!!!

I guess all of us traveling in September are suffering the same fate. It seems my flight from SDF to MCO (via Atlanta) has a time change, but my return flight is gone altogether. Haven't talked to Delta yet, but it looks like we'll be on a CRJ as well, and I'm not too happy about the size. Keep posting results of your inquiries...I'll be interested to know what everyone ends up doing.

Just got off the phone with Delta. I didn't like the change to the CRJ very much, and it was no problem for them to change my itenerary. My flight is no longer non-stop, but I'm on a 767 and a MD-88 which I prefer. The person that assisted me was very compliant, so if you're not happy with your changes, see what they can do.

Also, I looked on Delta's web site at the flight schedules. They actually didn't mention the flight I wanted to change to, so study up before you call. Good luck! ;)

I called Delta back late last night and the lady I talked to told me that we would be charged the 50.00 penalty to re-book on different flights, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. He was very nice and said she was wrong and they would do one of two things. Either re-book us on any flight that we wanted, allthough it wouldn't be direct to Orlando, or give us a full refund if they didn't have any flights that we wanted. I checked the available flights for all airlines and decided on Delta. So I called back today and even though we no longer have a direct flight, :( we are on a 767, MD88, and 727 which is much better. :D Now I am not so worried about Mom. They made the changes, gave us our assigned seats, appologized for the inconvenience and didn't charge us a penny.
Thanks everyone!

Hello Fellow Kentucky Travellers,

I called Delta this morning and got both my flights changed over to the Atlantic Southeast Airlines Flights...One is the self same time in the morning as my previous one was..but on a much smaller plane..the other the day we return is two hours later, but that works out ok as we plan to go to the parks that day and our flight now doe not leave till 9:35pm, so in Sept that is a full day at the parks as they close at 7 pm then..So, it is working out for us, just sooooo glad it has worked out. Part of the attraction of flying for us was a direct flight..there in two hours from Louisville...We are ok with the smaller plane....thanks for the info, glad I read about it here and could change my ressies before the plane was filled up....enjoy your trips!!!
