Challenges and a PR

Just wondering what you all do to challenge yourself during a workout (especially if you're tired before you even get started).

Here was mine today.

I got up at 4 AM because I was volunteering at the Philly Marathon. It was a great day for a race (sunny and in the low 50's). Got home around noon, ate lunch watched part of the football game.

Couldn't skip the workout (even though my butt was dragging) so I went to the HS track (rubbery surface better for my still-annoying quad). I picked a playlist on my iPod and decided I would just walk until all the songs on that list had played. There were 36 songs. When they were done I had walked 11 miles in 2 hours and 28 minutes. Since I never walked/ran that distance before, that time became my PR :Pinkbounc

I also used other walkers on the track. I'd pick someone who was ahead of me and see if I could catch and pass them, especially if they were in the inner lanes (I always walk on the far outside lane).

I'll have to start working on my playlist for the marathon. Looks like it'll take me about 75 songs (that sounds so much better than 7 hours :teeth: )

Congrats on your PR. That's great time!

I find that I do better if I set some kind of attainable goal like that too. Like, I'm going to do at least xx pace or I will run from here to here on each street I go on. Even xt on the bike I set decide what I'm going to do ahead of time. That way I can't talk myself out of stopping before I should.

And those words ring in my head "got to get in those steps"
