We have Nextel cell phone service.I was wanting to call home from the Eastern Cruise as I run a business out of my home.Has anyone been able to use their cell phones while on the Eastern? We are going to get the internet package for sure for the whole cruise, but I would like to be able to call home as well.Any help is greatly appreciated. If you had to get phone cards, where did you purchase them at the Islands of St Maarten and St Thomas. You know Disney needs to come out with phone card that we can use not only on the boat but as well as the ports.Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My cell phone (Verizon) worked in St. Thomas, didn' try St Maarten. Boat has phone service, depending on how urgent it is, very, very expensive. You can purchase calling cards here and take them with you. AT&T work, get the international. There are phones at each pier.

Hello,

I have verizon wireless....and could use it most of the day when leaving the port since we sail just on the coast that evening....the days at sea there is no service....

As far as St. Maarten, I could have used the cell phone there but it was not in my calling plan and the cost were outragious! Something like $15.00 a minute! And pay phones are pretty pricy too.

St. Thomas I did used my phone...I cost me about 30 cents maybe....I forget the exact total....We used the phone A LOT that day and the total bill for that month was maybe 50.00 and its usually 42.00. You can check with Nextel and they can tell you how much per minute it would be..... Hope this helps, and have a GREAT cruise!! :wave2:

sprint will work in st thomas. i cant wait to use it there. no roaming charges acording to the sprint people.

Thanks!I will try my cell phone and hopefully it will work.I will also buy the AT and T phone cards for back up.Are the phone cards you all are talking about the ones one can purchase at Sam's or should I get them somewhere else. Thank you all for your great information!

try getting the phone cards at truck stops. they are cheaper and better the sam's and walmart. i should know im a truck driver that did the phone card thing for 2 years

ACTUALLY, AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED..UNITED STATES PHONE CARDS WILL NOT WORK INTERNATIONALLY..YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY A PHONE CARD WHEN YOU GET TO YOUR DESTINATION TO CALL HOME..AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT I EXPERIENCED IN THE BAHAMAS...

KYCruiseCrazy-Great idea! Thanks!I will look for the cards there.

Yes,in the bahamas I couldn't get my cards from the USA to work, but from what I have heard St Thomas is different.I was able to use my cellphone though my entire 4 night cruise on the Wonder which was great. We will find out out it goes on the seven nighter.Hopefullly,it will be the same. Thanks though!

how were the roaming charges? i have verizon...and i got a 30 minute call from the states to my cell while i was in cozumel.

I was on the 3/20 eastern and I have Nextel service and it did not work on St Thomas or St Martin..

Cingular works fine on St. Thomas. I just pay for minutes, no roaming, no long distance. I believe that applies to all Cingular Nation plans now.

I called Nextel Worldwide, and they told me not all phones will work. They told me there are certain models that will work there. You can also rent a phone from them for 8 dollars a day plus 2 something a minute from there.
