Celebs in the castle suite?

In my mind Waly would have wanted every human on Earth to be equal and have all of the same chances. Is it wrong for parents who can afford to buy their way into a dream for their child? NOPE! Business is business ppl.

Disney is a business not a charity no matter how nice ans welcoming they are. If this helps Disney as a whole stay in business and open I'm all for it.

Heck I hope they can drain even more rich ppl of unneeded cash between now and the next time I can afford to visit. Doods, we might get a new ride!

If that's true then I don't think he would have built Club 33 - the exclusive club built inside of Disneyland that very few people actually get to go to.

My problem would be if they didn't pay to stay there. At least make them pay for it.... ugh. I have a huge problem with they way "celebs" are treated in general ~ not just by Disney.

I honestly don't think its fair if they just let them stay there. And even if they paid...you know what, what if I wanted to save up my money and stay there for a night? If they have the opportunity, so should I. Not saying I'd waste however much money it would cost for a night, but if they have the option of staying there, you and I and everyone else should as well.

Now, if its used for charities, or things like that...that I don't have a problem with. Giving it away to celeberities I do.

:sad2: I honestly doubt they made the Cruise family pay to stay in the Cinderella Castle Dream Suite. Having them there last weekend was great press for the parks. :thumbsup2 The Suite has been used for celebrities in the past. Miley Cyrus stayed in it last year when in town for the Disney Channel Games concert. It was not the first time and certainly will not be the last time to hear about celebs staying in the Suite. With YOMD promo ending, I have seen the Castle Suite listed as a prize in numerous sweepstakes. So us "normal" folks will still get a chance to stay there. :woohoo: Also, there are still magical moments being given away each day at WDW and DLR. You never know ... :wizard:

Orlando Sentinel has an article on this matter (their info is pretty reliable).

So, if celebs should be treated like everyone else, why should they pay to stay there? No one else had to pay.

I think it's great that their little girl got to experience it. I know if most Disney-loving (and maybe even those regular people, too!) parents had the chance to let their their child(ren) stay in the castle, they'd jump at it. Why are Tom and Katie any different? Yes, they're famous, but they're still parents who want their daughter to have a blast at Disney.

Let's not forget that this whole discussion was precipitated by a gossip site...is there any confirmation that they did in fact stay in the castle at all?

:goodvibes That's one thing that got me when seeing the pictures, I am not a Tom Cruise fan (or at least the "new" Tom Cruise. He was more "normal" in the 80's and 90's. Top Gun still brings back great HS memories.:cloud9:). But when I saw him with his camera taking pictures of Suri, he was just a Dad enjoying his family. :goodvibes

WDW is such a magical place. :wizard:

I agree I would much rather it be used for Make A Wish kids if its not going to random park guests, but in the celeb defense, we have to remember that they don't get to experience much "magic" in the parks as they are shuttled through back doors and thrown onto rides to get them in and out as quick as possible. I can justify a celeb being in the castle suite for their kids sake.

Tom Cruise...cough cough...great press...cough cough...I dunno, he tops my list of Celebrity Crazies these days. Quite a shame too as I was a fan back in the Top Gun and A Few Good Men days. But now when I hear his name, I just imagine him ranting while jumping around on the furniture in the castle suite.

I'm pretty sure that Katie and Suri stayed in the suite for Valentine's Night and then they moved to a regular suite/hotel/something. I know they were at least at the world for three days. Did you see the photos of Suri with Minnie & Mickey? It was so precious! I don't have any problem with Disney using the suite as they see fit. I think Tom joined them on the third day.

Not surprised-- money talks EVERYWHERE, even at Disney-- it seems everything has a price :)

I just hate that idea. I think that it should be used as a prize not another perk for the over indulged.

I agree with you. I have no problem with the extemely rich but I like the idea of it being used as a prize or for charities rather than for some really rich person that can afford to stay anywhere.

I doubt they paid for it and that's what makes me angry. I hate it that the richest people are the ones who get things for free.

I really hope that Diseny lets some Make a wish kids stay there. Could you just imagine the look on the childs face when they realize they get to sleep in the castle?

I would love to see that happen! After all that those kids have been through - this would be an extremely special treat!

As for celebs - I agree they shouldn't be allowed to stay there for free.

Then again ... Disney is probably putting their picture up in publicity and magazines everywhere, without paying a "personal appearance fee." So the tradeoff of a night in the castle doesn't seem all that unfair.

:earsboy:

Now what would have been funny is if they explained to Mr. Cruise after waving his wad of cash "You might be one of lucky ones who gets chosen. We'll put your name in the hat just like everyone else. Good luck!" Hahahaha:rotfl2:

I don't think Walt's original intention was to exclude the "every day American" and their family the magic he created for us. We should all have an equal shot - money or no money. I personally feel Walt would be rolling over in his grave if he saw how out of hand the money has become. Come on - paying for parking ON TOP OF TICKET PRICES!?! I don't feel that was his original intention. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Otherwise - I love Disney. Enough said.

Hey, we're all talking about it, aren't we?

But hundreds of average families stayed for free, too.

Everyone did have a fair shot if they were at Disney World during YOAMD.

Do you realize how many wish kids attend WDW on any given day ? There are quite a few from what I was told. My DD was granted a wish trip by another foundation in 2002. Not Make A Wish but simular. Which by the way Disney does not recognise. Even though they pay to send kids to Disney. As much as you would like to see one very special kid get to sleep in the Castle there would be 20 or more that would be denied the chance each day. How much pixie dust do you think that would create ? It's hard enough to explain to a kid why they are dying.

How would they choose ? Based on severity of the illness ? Maybe just draw names ? I'm sure it would make great publicity if a kid dying from cancer got on tv and said their only wish before they died was to sleep in the Castle and then they interviewed a healthy kid who actually got to stay there. You see not all wish kids have a death sentence. Many have wishes granted after surviving an illness. In my DD's case she has multiple disabilities that can be life threatening but she has survived for 18 years now due to excellent medical care and a loving father and great insurance.

So my hope is they just tear it down and not use it to butter up rich folks or renting it out to the ultra wealthy in the world. The YOAMD was such a disappointment to so many people who didn't even win a fast pass. Disney just needs to stay away from gimicks and concentrate on offering quality entertainment at a fair price again.
