Celebrations Galore & Free Dining too! A Sept 2012 PTR (TR started!)

Yay! A mini-TR! :)

I love the Boardwalk area. So pretty. But the one thing that prevents me from actually staying at the BW is that creepy freakin clown! AHHHHHHH!

The dessert party sounds great but I think it would be wasted on me. I'm not much of a dessert person!

I want to get a new camera before our trip. I've just started researching a bit. Any recommendations?

Looks like you had a great weekend!

The Boardwalk was gorgeous! I love being able to walk to Epcot, but it did have some downfalls. I wasn't on the dining plan, but I'm glad I wasn't at this resort. There is no food court inside the actual resort. In order to fill your mug, you have to go to the bakery (or a few other locations)! Not ideal if you're there with a family. The gift shop is also along the boardwalk and not inside the resort. There is just the lobby, the bar and the rooms. Nothing else is inside. That would make me nuts. I love having a central location to go to. We also couldn't get our room to a comfortable temperature. It was either freezing or if we turned it down, the room would get damp. Not fun!

The dessert party had fruit too! :rotfl: It was a lot of fun.

I just got the Canon PowerShot A3400 IS. It is great! I wanted something with image stabalization; I hate having blurry pics.

I'm glad you had a nice, short trip and made it home safe & sound Meghan. :goodvibes I have been on two Disney trips without my kiddos and I can't do it again. I miss them like crazy! I understand how you were feeling.

It was a great time. I haven't laughed that much in ages! I did miss my kids and totally sobbed when I got home!

Really?? That sounds incredibly annoying! I get that they have the Boardwalk area to use but I would hate having to go out there for everything little thing instead of just a CS area in my hotel. Especially at a deluxe resort!

I was looking at a Samsung camera. It's normally $280 and was onsale for $149 with free shipping! I'm googling reviews.

It would be SO annoying! Plus, there are huge crowds at night with non resort guests. When IllumiNations ends, everyone comes surging back too.

At Best Buy, I was told that Canon and Sony are the best (according to the sales girl). She said stay away from anything that Ashton Kucher advertises...I thought that was funny.

Just got caught up on your agency TR. MAN! You really did pack a ton into a weekend! Holy moly! :scared1:

So cute that you ended up sitting with families the entire time. Also love the BW lady trying to tell you how to tour! As if! :lmao:

Love all the photos. Glad you had a safe trip!

We got a new camera in April for our anniversary~got a Canon and I love it..i was kind of on the fence between that and the Nikon..so glad went back to Canon..had one years ago, then a Sony, now back to Canon!!

Thanks for the mini TR. :goodvibes Very enjoyable!

Looks like you had a fun filled and very busy weekend. ::yes:: Love all the BWI pics, we really like it there. So glad to hear you liked the BW pizza too, it is definitely better than any other WDW pizza! Too bad you didn't get to go swimming, we love that pool -- clown slide and all! My kids talk about it all the time!! Oh and just so you know - there is a little gift shop inside the BWI, just to the right of check in. Nothing as big or nice as the one out on the BW though! It is hard to get used to the CS options (or lack thereof) at the deluxe resorts when you are used to staying at a value or moderate with a huge foodcourt. That is our one complaint about the deluxes. But we actually found the BWI to have better/more CS choices than the Poly or the BC/YC. We didn't mind walking out on the BW to get food, it was actually a quicker walk than from our moderate rooms to the foodcourts!

I know you love the DDP, but if you ever find yourself there again without it just get some WDW gift cards before you go. Ever since we quit doing the DDP (So not worth it for us with 2 kids considered adults who eat like birds!! We would rather take the room discount!) we pay for our food with gift cards - that way it's prepaid.

That would be so cool to see the call center!! :cool1: How fun! Hope you had a great time and learned lots!

What a busy weekend! It looks like an awesome time! I would love to stay in the Boardwalk/Beachclub area. I also decided I would only do it during food/wine when I probably wouldn't want the dining plan anyway. The mug situation alone would annoy me.

Also, congrats on your 32 min run time! That is AWESOME!!!

What a fun whirlwind trip!

I'm actually sort of looking forward to a trip without my kids - is that wrong? :) It won't be for a while for sure. But we would do it differently for sure.

I think one thing about BW is that it is also a DVC - so many of the villas have kitchens. Maybe the people who stay there don't miss the CS so much. Then again, they have regular rooms too, just like the others... I would miss the drink station for sure. It's like you have to share your CS/drink place with the masses passing by on the boardwalk! Seems strange.

Great pictures for sure!!!

And that is why I am exhausted!!! It was a ton of fun but very tiring.

I guess I just gravitated towards the families. Plus, with SW boarding you have to take what you can get! Most of the time I sat on the aisle seat because the mom or dad/child would take the window and middle seat. It's better than having some stranger crawl over you and you kid!

Thanks!

I love my camera so far. Just got it for my birthday and haven't taken very any pics yet. I was happy with how the Disney pics turned out.

I really wanted to try the clown slide because it looked like a ton of fun. I just don't like clowns in general and at night when it's eyes were lit up...scary!!!

I didn't notice the little gift shop because I never went to the check in desk! My roommate checked in a day before me and was able to pick up my key. My ticket was separate. The only other deluxe I've stayed at is the Contemporary and I was 10 years old. That was pre-dining plan era and we won that trip so everything was fabulous. We stayed in a garden wing building (it's now BLT), so we did have to walk to the tower to eat and all that.

With older kids I wouldn't mind the whole now CS thing in the main building. I cannot imagine that with Madison and Cole in tow. We were very close to the Boardwalk, but it just wasn't easy. I like when things are centrally located..I don't mind the walk, I just want to walk and have everything I need all in one spot.

I didn't really care for the CS offering of the bakery. The salad was ok, nothing special and the sandwiches really didn't interest me at all. The pastries looked amazing, but I wasn't in the mood for sweets when I was there. I guess I'm a simple food court kind of girl. We really enjoyed Pop's food court when we stayed there...there was a lot to choose from. We only ate lunch/dinner there twice, but it kept everyone happy.

I don't know what we're going to do about the dining plan after this next trip. Madison will be 10 in October and she does not have a big appetite at all. However, Cole could eat his weight in food! We could order the adult portion for him in a few years and she could eat his kids meal. We really love traveling during free dining, so that always works good for us. I don't feel so guilty if I don't finish something. When I didn't get to finish my food on Saturday at Epcot it was an awful feeling. I spent $15 on 3 tacos, chips and salsa and a drink and didn't even finish half of it. Not cool.

The call center was amazing! Everyone was so friendly and now I know what they're seeing when I call them on the phone. Everyone's cubicles are decorated and happy looking. They also have tv's throughout the building with a live feed of the parks!!! They are constantly reminded of why they do what they do. :goodvibes

It was very busy but very fun. I would not have been a happy camper with the mug thing at all. Plus, they don't fill up your mug for you. They fill up a paper cup and hand it to you and you have to pour it in your mug yourself. What a waste of a cup!

Thank you!!! I was very proud of myself. I haven't run since then...I need to get moving!

I like to get away from the kiddos every now and then, but being at WDW without them was hard. It made me miss them even more! Tony says he could never go to WDW without the kids. I know I could, but it would be hard.

The Villas are even further from the Boardwalk than the regular rooms!!! They must just order their groceries or have a car to go to Publix or something so they can get their drinks. I wouldn't want to spend all that money and then have to deal with crowds at my own resort. That's just me though.

Thank you!

Thanks for the mini-TR, Meghan! I am amazed at how much you packed into such a short time!

I've gotta say that the part that made me smile was that little blurb about a strawberry shortcake and iced mocha--that's exactly what I get every single trip from Sunshine Seasons, and it's one of my favorite Epcot traditions! Can't wait to be doing that in THREE WEEKS!!!

Wow, sounds like you were able to squeeze a lot in!! I think seeing the call center sounds really amazing too. Sometimes seeing the other side of the magic just adds another level of magic. (So...a whole lot of magic basically!) I just started working at a local Disney Store and I actually LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing everything. I can imagine the call center is splendid. If I worked in a call center, I would want it to be that one.

Loved the mini tr! Good to know all that info on the Boardwalk. Not sure I would ever want to stay there. I think I would prefer a Yacht or Beach Club if I wanted easy access to a lot of the same things (DHS, Epcot, the actual Boardwalk, etc.). SO EXCITED to hear about your family trip, definitely enjoyed this little teaser though.

What a fun trip! I fantasize about being able to walk around World Showcase without my kids. Is that bad? :) I'm sure there would be a Grey Goose Slush in my hand as well.

You're welcome! We really did pack in a lot.

I had never had their iced mocha before and it was delicious! I needed a little pick me up...I was starting to crash since I had been up since 3:45am!

The call center was so cool. I wish everyone could see it. It was cool to learn about all the different teams that they have there. Now I know why you have to answer all those questions when you call them....have you visited before, how many visits since a certain year, etc. Those questions help take you to the right CM for you!

I wish we had a Disney Store! I have heard that they might be bringing one back to Buffalo and that would make me so happy! My mom and sister both worked at the Disney Store (at different times) when we lived in Syracuse.

Don't get me wrong....the Boardwalk was gorgeous! I just would have preferred a little different layout. We were right around the corner from the bar and I don't know why they couldn't add a drink station there. Now, if you're heading out to Epcot or DHS, stopping at the bakery for a refill isn't bad since you have to go that way anyways. But, if you're going to MK or AK it's like back tracking. Crazy!

What a fun trip! I fantasize about being able to walk around World Showcase without my kids. Is that bad? :) I'm sure there would be a Grey Goose Slush in my hand as well.

It was super fun! That's not bad at all....it was fun to walk around WS but we did move at a brisk pace. We didn't do a whole lot of shopping and now I regret it. I think it's because it was so hot and humid and I was exhausted!

I agree with this 100% I had a Nikon Coolpix and I loved it. Until it decided to stop working and the camera never turned on again after about a year. I figured out afterward that this is common among Nikon cameras!

I have a Samsung camera now that I got for free so I can't really complain about it too much. I really want one of the Canon Powershot cameras! Hopefully I can find a good deal on one before I leave.

Good luck with the camera shopping! I don't remember exactly how much I paid for mine..maybe it's because it was my birthday gift and Tony told me to get whatever I wanted. :goodvibes Prices don't matter then. I really like it, but I still haven't learned all about it yet. It has a touch screen which is pretty cool though.

Just read your mini-TR....sounds like you had fun! Must have been a nice teaser for your big trip!

Love the pics of the BWI...I really want to stay there one day!

It was such a fun weekend! It made me even more excited for my upcoming trip for sure. :thumbsup2

The Boardwalk area really is beautiful. It's so nice to be able to look across the lake and see the YC/BC too.
