Celebration Round Up and BBQ

:laughing:Ya never know! A melee over a shortage of protein might be more funny/entertaining than the actual show!:scared::rotfl:
Please do not give the suits ideas. Can you see on the local news how people got into a fight over the last rib at a Disneyland eatery with fists a flying and a little girl crying as a mean man steals a chicken leg from the little girl. Lots of DLR publicity that way.

I might be a little crazy here (hey now, be nice...), but I was just reading this thread and talking with DH:

If I understand correctly, the meal is $30, all you can eat, plus entertainment.

We went to Outback for dinner the other night and spent around $60 (2 adults, appetizers, meals, dessert). At Celebration Round Up it's all you can eat, with characters, and entertainment.

If you look at it by itself (not thinking about park admission) it seems like a pretty good deal for dinner, no?

- Dreams (who wants one of those goodie bags!)

I also thought about it a little more and for 72 bucks you get all you can eat for 2 adults. Both of my kids are under 3 so no charge there. It's the same price as us eating at the BB and at least this is something the kids will be entertained with and we can eat as much as we like. So perhaps we'll give it a try once and see.

I agree, when putting into a comparison of 2 adults dining out at a restaurant, it's not an outrageous price....However, most of us have children - whom Disney considers adults, once they reach 12 - and when factoring in the small amount they may or may not eat, it IS expensive...I don't know too many people who would take their child to a regular restaurant and consider $35 to be a reasonable price for that meal....expecially when we're talking beans and coleslaw, that I'm sure many kids won't touch!

But... the kids eat for $19. AND, they get the goodie bag.

If you were to purchase those items, maybe a guess at pricing would be:
- canvas bag $10
- the crayons -
- cardboard ear hat -
- Mickey straw - $1
- magnet board - $?
- Celebration Roundup cup $10

So... a kid gets $22 worth of stuff, making their meal -$3. (Use it towards the tax and tip!) ROFL, idk about you, but that's a great deal now that I break it out.

P.S. Yes, I will agree for the kids that are 12-maybe 14(?) it's a pricey meal.

I agree! I have an 11 yr old dd and an almost 10 yr old ds. There is no way I could justify paying $30+ for a meal for them. (We haven't done a character meal since my dd turn 10.) And then they would see the kids goody bag and want them, which I am assuming they wouldn't get become in Disney's eyes they are no longer "kids". Although I am sure we could buy them for an additional $10. And neither of them would eat the coleslaw or beans either.:sad2:

I wasn't referring to children under 12 - I was talking about the children over 12, so they would pay the full adult price...and I'm sure the cup is worth about $1...or free at most chain restaurants....I stick with my opinion that for kids over 12 it is a very pricey meal.

kjd469, Disney considers 3-9 to be a child with regard to character meals so anyone 10 and over pays the adult price!

I'm fully aware of what Disney considers to be an adult...but I don't think too many parents would agree that their kids are adults after the age of 9, or for meals, 12....sorry, just don't agree with their policy.

Oh I am totally with you kjd469.:thumbsup2
I personally think it is outrageous that they want to charge me a full adult price for my daughter who is 10 years old!
She doesn't even eat enough food considering the price of the child's meal.
I was simply pointing this out as I know that there has been some confusion over what Disney considers an "adult".
I wanted to make sure that this is clear because I think someone would be very upset if they made PSs for a character meal only to show up and realize that they have to pay an outrageous price for their 10 or 11 year old.
I did quite a few character meals when my daughter was under 10 but now I just find it really outrageous to pay over $30.00 for her.
Disney should really consider changing this policy but I am not going to hold my breath! :faint:

My grandson who turned 3 in December barely eats 2 chicken mcnugget pieces and about 5 french fries in a Happy Meal...so the kids' price can be steep for a child that usually eats off our plates. I guess we're paying for the experience and the characters.

I agree. And when my kids are at that age I am sure we wont be doing character meals as often. Maybe minnies or goofy's where there are many characters around but certainly not for woody and jessie. Too much money!

So I just talked to my kids and told them what would be served at the meal...my son won't eat the corn, coleslaw or cornbread, and my daughter won't eat the ribs, corn, beans and said she'd probably only eat a little of the chicken...they both said, No mom, it wouldn't be worth it for us to eat there. So, I guess that decides it...we won't be going :-(....However I'm glad they told me this before I spent $100 plus on something they wouldn't really enjoy....guess I'll have to take a trip with just my hubby to give it a try another time :-)

It's good you found out before it's too late! That is how I kind of have to break it down for myself. I don't eat ribs at all. I don't like cole slaw and I don't need any corn bread. I would really only want the chicken, the corn and the cupcake, and to take pictures with the characters. So I have to decide if that is worth the lofty fee. Again, I have to make the comparison between this and the character all you can eat buffets. While the Celebration BBQ may be (sort of) all you can eat (though not advertised as such), it is all you can eat of a very limited menu. At the character buffets, for essentially the same price, you can get all you can eat of a wide variety of items, so you can come back to your table with a different plate of things each time if you choose to. You have options. And honestly, I could take or leave the entertainment at Celebration. I just want a variety of dishes to choose from and photos with characters. That's it. So I am still on the fence about this and whether or not I will do it. For me, it may not be worth it but I will play it by ear as it gets closer to the next time I go to DLR.

I just cancelled my PS, there are 5 of us and my 3 older girls 12,17,20 said they weren't interested in Jesse and Woody or the food. I am glad they said that cause I was getting a bad feeling about what it was.
I am kinda bummed only because I love to try whatever new thing that is going on at DL.
But relieved in a way too. :confused3

well me an dh talked it over an only because its with our meal plan will we do it but we would never pay cash for it. specially since my son is only gona be eating the skin lol
we will do it an still have 55 +snacks (each adult) left after all our special meals so ya we can do it.

character meals
plaza inn
story tellers
goffys
princess's (on my bday)
an the bbq round up

but if we were paying 80 out of pocket dh says no.

I feel the same way that you do. I like the variety of food choices that is offered at Character meals like Goofy's, along with the Character interaction. It truly is all you can eat, and if you don't like something, you can have them take the plate away and go try something else. I think that especially for picky eaters (which a lot of kids are) the Character buffets make a lot more sense.
I'm sure there are people who will love this BBQ experience, and if it makes them happy then more power to them! :goodvibes

I think people who try the Celebration BBQ will have fun. I don't doubt that it is a fun time to be had, but I think it is real specific to each person whether or not that price is worth it to them for what they get from the entire 'package.' I will probably try it at some point in the future, depending on how long they keep it around (will it be here next year once the What Will You Celebrate year is over?), but it is not at the top of my list because I don't think it will be worth it for me, personally.
