Celebration Round Up and BBQ

I'll put it this way -- it's definitely worth going to once. I want to reiterate that the food IS great...and, perhaps, some of the best I've had at the park. And, as I said to my friend, I got to take a picture with Bullseye and I've never seen him in costume wandering around the park before. So, that was special. I'd love to hear what others thought if they try out the restaurant.

I can also imagine that they need to work out some kinks. As I said, I went on opening day and they're still trying to figure out what works with folks.

Have fun!

I read that the coleslaw is vinegar based? I don't do mayo based or anything like that so it is more like a vinegar and oil dressing that the slaw is mixed in?

Just wanted to point out that the "goody bag" is the exact thing you can buy at the sit-down restaurants as the Deluxe Goody Bag (for birthdays). They're $9.99 & we got them for our kids in March at Goofy's Kitchen. The canvas bag is nice the rest is so-so. There's a magnetic board with 5(?) magnets, a paper cut out of Mickey ears & memory cards, the straw & a small coloring book with 4 crayons. So if you go to the BBQ with no kids & still want one, just go to one the other restaurants & ask to purchase one!!! (possibly they would let you purchase them there??)

Perfect, we'll be at GK our last day and that would be a cool thing to get the kids (and maybe one for me;))for the train ride to SD. Thanks DizNee Luver.

OK, I haven't read all the messages from people who ate there, but I did see a comment about not being offered more of the protein. We got 3 additional buckets of ribs! Our server was very attentive and made sure to ask what we needed refills of. I can confirm that it IS all you want to eat of whatever you want refills of!

The entertainment was a little hokey but it was fun. There is a castmember named Carol who is VERY enthusiastic about this and came to our table to sing a round or two of Home on the Range. We LOVED Carol! She also danced a jig with my son. More staff need to catch her enthusiasm! Woody played with the kids at the table and Jessie did too. Woody and my son had a 'dance off' -- it was hilarious! They had quite a bit of fun with my son for his b-day. The singers come around and interact, which is fun.

I will post a full review with pics when we get home (we are packing this AM to leave PPH for home), but the consensus of my family is that it was hokey but fun and the food was hit & miss (coleslaw and dessert were thumbs down), but the ribs and corn MORE than made up for it. EXCELLENT BBQ sauce. Chicken a little bland? Add some BBQ sauce! Yum!

they do need to work out the kinks a bit and find their feet - get a rhythm going (excuse the pun), but we plan to visit again.

Are mealtimes thru out the day or is it at certain hours? What are times you can rsvp thru PS? Thanks.

I just read on the MP review:

So it sounds like if one is a big protein eater and avoids carbs it may be an issue. I wonder how long they'll take to bring out the additional individual servings of protein when/if requested? Hmmm...

Hey, Tass

Sorry, I should have been more clear. You get two pieces of chicken and two ribs EACH. :)

I do have to say that, when I left there, I was full. And, again, as for the food, it was very good and some of the best I've had at the park.

you can ask for more. We did! And we got more of everything we asked for!PLENTY of food to be had!

I also wanted to mention that I agree with the 'sticker shock' thing. $28.99 is already expensive, so to tack on tips and taxes to that , in addition to $30+ for the character picture is going to keep a LOT of people away (though you don't have to buy the picture).

I was willing to pay an excellent tip for truly great service by our server. I was NOT happy to see they pre-added a 15% gratuity on their own. When restaurants do that, they are essentially charging 15% more than they advertised. And some people may not realize they paid that tip and they will add in more.

I wish someone from Disney would ask customers what we think. I think I'll figure out how to send them constructive feedback.

thats why i use the vouchers sorry all but they include tax an tip an at least then im like done. (i only leave the waiter an extra tip when shes earned it.)

That's good to know. I guess there won't be any melees over the protein then, huh? ;) Shucks! And I thought that would be quite interesting to see! Seeing your review about the show made me think the melee might indeed be more entertaining! :rotfl: J/K! :goodvibes

I'm not sure of the exact hours offered, but you can go anytime you choose...no set hours....I believe it was something like 11:30 - 6:30 approx. So the entertainment must be an ongoing thing.

Still going "eenie-meenie-miny-mo" on whether to keep our PS ressie for next Thursday...starting to lean back towards going...I'll try anything once.

DisneySuiteFreak,

Thank you, I appreciate the very kind words.
Sometimes, no matter how well I plan, events can end up happening that are not in my control, or not completely, then it goes from there. Sometimes, one can still pull off a plan, but other times, either one misses out, or must post pone. Oh well, at least I seem to be in one piece.
If I miss out in Sept. I will especially be an unhappy camper.
My birthday was yesterday. I had a reasonably nice day, but it was not a Disney day.

Thanks for posting the video! This is totally up my kids alley - they will have a great time! I am excited to go!

Question about the photos - If you have a photopass, will they add the BBQ photos to the pass?

If it works like the other character dining meals, than no, I don't think so. I think you *might* have that option if you order a package. I could be wrong though :confused3

No, like all the character meals, its a separate package that they sell. They will take pics with your personal camera & don't feel like you have to buy their package.

I might be a little crazy here (hey now, be nice...), but I was just reading this thread and talking with DH:

If I understand correctly, the meal is $30, all you can eat, plus entertainment.

We went to Outback for dinner the other night and spent around $60 (2 adults, appetizers, meals, dessert). At Celebration Round Up it's all you can eat, with characters, and entertainment.

If you look at it by itself (not thinking about park admission) it seems like a pretty good deal for dinner, no?

- Dreams (who wants one of those goodie bags!)

If you buy the picture you can have the photos added to your Photopass card. There's a little slip with a number inside the folder.

You can have the number added to your Photopass account either in the Photopass corner in the Greetings store in DCA or in the camera store in DLR, and you can add it online, too.

I agree D D, I believe that it is a good price, for all that is offered. Especially if one will be treated. he he ;)
