My dd will turn 3 the day after we leave WDW. I think we've decided to celebrate her birthday two days before the actual date. (as we have an ADR at the Princess Storybook breakfast) Does Disney have any rules about wearing the "it's my birthday" pin? Is there a free birthday dessert that she would get somehwere, or should we order her a cake? I think we'll go to AK that day (EMH). I don't know where we'll eat dinner. Just looking for ideas for her special (early) day.

Absolutely no rules on wearing the birthday pin before your actual birthday...in fact, I say wear it all week. Your DD will get some birthday surprises from the CMs (special desserts are customary at some of the restaurants). You can order a cake if you would prefer a cake but Disney is pretty good about it. Make sure that you remember to tell them its her birthday when you are making your ADRs

My son's birthday is the 24th of May (2 weeks after hers) so I wonder if we should celebrate his there as well.
We'll be getting dessert anyway on the DDP, and I've already made the ADRs. I could call back and tell them on the princess breakfast though.

God yes...they don't check birth certificates. Celebrate everyone's birthdays!!!

We got for our anniversary every year and wear our buttons all week. We also use the DDP but they usually give you something special for dessert (in addition to your DDP dessert)...which for us means that we end up with a lot of extra desserts in our hotel fridge because we aren't big dessert people...but it's still nice.

Also my other DS 5 will be gradating from kindergarten 2 days before we arrive, the same day as his little brother's birthday. Is there a button or any kind of celebration or special treatment for this?

I knew about the birthday buttons but not about the anniversary ones (its our 10th wedding anniversary when we are there in May (having got married and engaged at Disney!!))

Where can I get anniversary buttons ???

thanks alot!!:thumbsup2

Thank you for posting this. I'm taking my 4 yo niece this fall, right before her birthday. She'll be thrilled with a birthday button.

I would definately get your DD that birthday button as her birthday is just one day after your departure and the trip will still have that birthday feel. Your DS's bday is two weeks later, not quite the same. Personally, I don't think its necessary for the bday buttons when it really isn't their birthday unless its a trip planned for their birthday. It's kind of like those crazy restaurants that do something silly if you tell them its your birthday and suddenly it seems to be EVERYBODY's birthday....takes away the fun... IMHO. Having said that, if you think your DS will be tickled pink by a bday button or the ensuing cupcake, by all means, do it....its all about the kids in the end.

Yes! Trust me people do it all the time. Yes! They do have a standard cake at restaurants you can request, but I think the standard freebie is a cupcake. Pick a character meal for that and they'll have the characters come to your table to sing (or mimic ;) ) Happy Birthday with you :goodvibes . Just make sure you tell them you'll be celebrating a birthday when you make your ADR's and again when you check in. Some restaurants will even give them a special placemat and maybe put some confetti on the table. Get that button and let her wear it wherever and whenever she wants to. Your front desk will give you the button or if you forget you can get them at guest services at the parks. You can also request that the hotel do something special , just give them 24 hours notice at the very least. You must literally say, "Will you please send something to our room on this date for her/his birthday." They ask for a favorite character and then send something to your room from that character. Our DD got a card from Cinderella and cookies and a white chocolate Mickey from the GF.

Just be careful that you don't tell your little one that this will happen, there are times when it does not. 1900 PF gave my DGD a place mat signed by all of their characters, she still uses it but the CM's brought it, not the characters. Better to have a huge surprise than a let down on a special day.

I was on the phone the other day w/ disney dining, making an adr for my ds6's summer bday trip. It was for The Garden Grill, and I wanted to double check if Mickey would be there, so when I asked the cm and said why I needed to know (because it was a special dinner for ds's bday), the cm asked if that day was his bday. I said his real bday was 2 days later (still during our trip), but that ds wanted to see Mickey the first day of his bday trip, and the cm said he noted ds was a 'birthday boy' on the adr. It didn't matter to him that his bday was 2 days later. I'm planning on getting the birthday pin when we get there and letting him wear it whenever he wants the week we're there. We've done this in the past for dd's bday trips there.

does the actual character come to your room and deliver it or is something just sent from the character?

We will be celebrating several birthdays during our family trip and none of them will be on the exact birthday... we aren't expecting anything special or free from anyone, just celebrating ourselves and if something else comes of it, then great! I think it's a great opportunity to celebrate in a very special and memorable way! :mickeyjum

I do, however, want to tell you about a post I read a few weeks ago when I was trying to decide how to celebrate my 2 yr-old-soon-to-be-3-yr-old's birthday. I would hate for this to happen to another unsuspecting family...

I woman posted a cute story of celebrating their child's third birthday at a character meal (on his actual birthday, mind you) and then felt a bit surprised when his buffet meal was included on their itemized bill. The CM's politely and apologetically (I think) explained that he was now three and must be included on the bill.

It's just good to know we may need to have cash on hand for him in that situation, just in case...

I totally agree. We didn't tell our DD about any of the things we had planned because I wanted to surprise her and of course the concern that they'd forget or not do what I expected. When things did happen that way she was so thrilled and surprised. I was surprised that Mickey came to do Happy Birthday with her. I just figured it would be us singing to her, and maybe a few CM's.
