My husband and I just completed the adoption of our son and decided we want to go to WDW to celebrate with family. We own at BWV but don't have enough points to get enough rooms for family & friends etc. I am thinking it would be a good idea to rent/transfer points but have no idea if there would be enough rooms available by the time I found enough points. Has anyone ever tried to deal with a large volume of points for individual reservations? Any advice?

I haven't rented or transferred, so can't help ya there... But a big CONGRATULATIONS is due!!! :thumbsup2 :cloud9:

Congratulations! We celebrated the adoption of our daughter at WDW, too! Talk about dreams coming true :). Could you give some more info about your stay? Like, are you planning to stay at BWV, or would you be willing to stay at a less busy resort? And when are you planning to travel?

Thanks for the congrats! We are obviously very happy to finally add to our family! We sent out a dvd invite to our extended family and friends to join us Oct 8 - 14. I was thinking renting/transferring points would be a great way to have everyone stay in the same place or pretty close. We were thinking our home resort, BWV, BCV, maybe even some people might like SSR or WLV. I was thinking I should first talk to Memeber Services to see if anything is available for that time...Food & Wine Festival I know is a popular time us members. I am just not sure how to work the timing to make sure I don't get transferred points and then have nothing available to book. As I write this I think I might be making this more complex than it needs to be :confused3

The only problem I see is if your dates overlap F&W, you might have some difficulty with availability, but visit the rent/trade board and post for a transfer. Many DVCers will charge a dollar or two less for transfers, since it doesn't take as much "work".

Just wanted to send a big congratulations to you on your son's adoption! We are an adoptive family, too!! :thumbsup2

I've met many families with their precious adoptees at WDW**

I've transferred points before and received them too. I think that you're on the right track to ask Member services about availability before you get more points. Also, you may want to get your immediate family's booking confirmed because it may take others awhile to decide to go. There's always the Swan and Dolphin that's next to the Boardwalk Villas. They have the most comfortable beds, and it would be pretty much on the Boardwalk too. They are owned/managed by Starwood!! Your guests may have points that they can use for their stay.

We had a Spring Break visit with two other families that were there at the same time. One family stayed at the Dolphin and the other booked at the OKW. Eventhough it was a villa, they wish they had booked at the Swan & Dolphin to be closer to us at the BCVs. I tried getting them a room at the BCV or BWV, but it was too late when they decided to come.

Best Wishes!! Are you planning on going to the Mickey's Not So scary Halloween Party too?!! It's so much fun:)

Just another adoptive DVC mom (my daughter was adopted from China) wishing you congratuilations! :cheer2:

congratulations....

You have a better chance of getting OKW or SSR....

OKW has much cheaper points... (okay a standard view at BWV it not that much more)

We are celebrating Lilly Rose's adoption (July 27) with a trip to the Boardwalk also!! :cool1:
Renting the points is the way to go.
Congratulations!!

:) Congratulations from another adoptive parent! :cheer2: We adopted our DD's from Korea as babies, and they are now 29 and 26, and the best thing we ever did! We also celebrated with a trip to WDW, to Poly, which was one of only two hotels in those days! :teeth:

If you can be flexible with your stay, you might want to have pts transferred into your account, so that you can alter your stay in order to get the number of rooms that you are going to need, and can just rent them when you find them. Transferred pts will take your use month and year, so keep that in mind when transferring pts. You don't want to be near the end of your use year. :thumbsup2

Sounds like your question was answered, so congratulations from another adoptive parent (DD (3) from Hunan province in China)
:dancer: party: :dancer:

Congratulations....

DD-8 was 3 when we got her from Albania.

We left Europe straight to Disney, before making it home!

LOL!

Blessings to your family,

Goldi

My son is almost eight and from Korea.

(My daughter is one of those surprise babies everyone who adopts hears constantly about "oh, I know someone who adopted and them "bam!" they had 'their own.'" - I apologize profusely to other adoptive parents pretty much constantly).

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :grouphug: My DW and I brought our son home from Russia last year and we also celebrated with a trip to WDW. We wish you and your family lots of happiness. :cloud9:

DS second trip!

we came home from our Russian adoption (Armivir in the Krasnodar region) in March of 04, and took DS to WDW in May.

He's been there three times so far and we're going in two weeks.

Congats on your new addition!
