Nichole, iif I am reading right they DO sanitize the room and the Doc says Disney standards are "2nd to none" I think it is totally up to you. Do what you are comfortable with.
"If they identify a guest who's stayed in a room, they have an antiseptic treatment of that room: changing the bedding and a major scrub down of that room as a routine," said Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty.
Disney officials said they already have rigorous sanitation standards across the resort.
So far, the Orange County Health Department has not recommended for them take any additional steps.
"I've toured the back lots in Disney. They're better than anyone I've ever seen. The practices they have to protect staff members, guests and staff are second to none," said Dr. Kevin Sherin from the health department.
A big congrats to Kaylee. How exciting for her. Sorry to your wallet....
Hey Nichole! CONGRATS to Kaylee!![]()
If I were you, as long as you were all healthy, I would go especially if there are no cases in your schools! Some advice I have seen that makes sense...
put some neosporin in your nostrils before flying, it keeps your nasal passages moist making you less suseptible to germs.
wipe down completely your plane seats, trays, windows and arm rests with Clorox wipes!
DO NOT turn the air on above your seats! Recycled forced air
DO NOT use the bathroom unless ABSOLUTELY necessary!
Keep hand sanitizer ,at least 60% alcohol with you to have the kids use before they eats snacks.
I always do all of these when I fly, call me paranoid but it works for me!!
One of the biggest things at Disney is, if you go to buffets, make sure you clean your hands before you eat (do you know how many people touch those utensils!)I am ridiculous, I don't even let the kids touch the utensils, Bryan and I do it for them!
I am sure you will be fine, try to relax (hard I know) and have a GREAT time!!
Sorry I rambled!!![]()
Also, congrats to Kaylie!!! (and sorry to your checkbook!)
Cathy
Hey Nichole,
Just found this...
http://www.foxcarolina.com/health/19351787/detail.html
That should make you feel better that the high school in question is reopening & tested negative for the swine flu. It sould like (from the article you posted) that WDW is taking precautions.
Good luck with your decision. I imagine you will be just fine. As KathyRN posted, this flu is not much different than the regular flu - it's jut in the news right now. People travel while sick all the time, but we just dont know it. KWIM?
Cathy
Aren't they using the regular flu shot to treat this swine flu? I thought for sure I read this somewhere. Anyway, we always get our flu shot....every year I'm first in line. It's cheaper than meds would be if you got sick, not to mention a Dr's visit. Why people would not get the shot I don't know??? Anyway....flu or no flu every time we go to WDW my room is doused in lysol everywhere. Then we take sanitary wipes and wipe down the headboards, remotes, drawers, counters...everything we can get to with the alcohol wipe. I even spray the darn carpet! I can't go back in my room for an hour or two but at least it's santized.
Another thing I do anywhere I go...even if it's to the family cabin is take my own bedding. My pillows, my quilts....so yeah I lay on their beds but I lay on my own quilt then cover with another one and use my own pillows. I know you're flying but it may put your mind at ease if you ship these down to your resort so you have them there when you arrive. I'd say cancel the flight and drive down but I know you have money all tied up in it now. Don't sweat it. Bring some meds just in case and if you didn't get a flu shot maybe you still can.
CONGRATS KAYLEE!!!
Thanks Tammy,. I have to show Kaylee that tomorrow. I do the same thing as far as sanitizing the room. Well not the carpet. They say this is a completey new strain of flu and are working on vaccines right now to have them for the next flu season. I wonder if this is why so many people got sick this year even with having the flu vaccine. I thought about canceling the flight but since most everyone flies to Disney, how much good would that do. My mom always uses her own bedding too, She says who knows where the hotel stuff has been
. The person I rented points from probably thinks I'm nuts
because I emailed asking if it would be possible to check another resort. I know in the future I need to book directly with Disney so I stay in control of my reservation
.
I thought the new said they were sending tamiflu to help these people? I don't listen to the news much (except Nancy Grace). They make too much out of stuff...the economy, the "flu"....drives me crazy! They try to put a scare in people. You take your trip and have fun. You guys are all helthy so I seriously doubt even if you caught that flu that it'd go to the extremes. Look at the people who had it, and now are over it up in NYC. They said it was like a regular flu.
Yay Kaylee! That's great and I'm sure she's thrilled!
Nichole, I wouldn't worry yourself to pieces over this flu thing! Take precautions, wipe things down, try to steer clear of anyone who is noticeably sick and maybe try taking some Airborne starting now leading up to your trip. I wouldn't change your resort - you really have no idea what is anywhere....really. I think you will be fine!
Sara
Congrats to Kaylee! Try not to worry too much about the swine flu chances are slim that you would catch it and it is just like the regular flu so try to not worry so much and just enjoy the vacation, it sounds like you need it with all this running around!![]()
Congratulations Kaylee! What a great accomplishment for her!
And like the others have said, you guys will be fine on your trip. Just take the necessary precautions and enjoy!![]()
Yes, isn't he too cute?! Looks like I'm going to cancel my Sunday ADR and miss the meetGlad you are done worrying.
Did you see the link about Remy being at Chef de France??![]()
Glad to hear that you are no longer worried! This swine flu thing is crazy but it sounds like you are taking the right precautions. Congrats to Kaylee!! And Thomas looked so cute at his first Tball game![]()
As always I need your votes. We may end up going to MK on Saturday to see Spectromagic but we won't decide until we get there. If you have seen my schedule you know it's jam packed. It stinks that they are only showing Spectro 3 nights. The other choice if we don't go to MK Saturday is to see Spectromagic on Thursday and skip our Le Cellier dinner ADR
. So which one would you skip Spectro or Le Cellier??? I do have a back up ADR at The Plaza for Thursday. So I have to cancel one of them.
Since you are skipping the DIS meet you should go to the Specto meet on Saturday! That way you can keep Le Cellier, attend a DIS meet and see spectro. Sounds like a good plan to me! Of course I wouldn't have any alterior motives or anything.![]()
I would choose Spectro but that is my favorite! Of course, I've never been to LeCellier so I guess I can't offer an opinion! I've heard it's fabulous! Hopefully you can get to Spectro on Saturday night and then you won't have to worry about it! We may actually go Saturday night too!![]()
So does this mean you got Tommy on board with adding days to your October tickets? I don't know if I'm much help at all with this since I have not eaten at Le Cellier either; however, I know how much you want to see Spectro (haven't you missed it the past couple of trips?) so I would vote for seeing Spectro on Saturday that way if something happens, you have a back-up to see it on Thursday (you know, if on Saturday it gets rained out or something...if you don't go on Sat and wait till Thurs, what if Thurs gets rained out?) Ugh. Sorry, I don't think I'm much help.
Well, if MIchelle and Sam are going to be there on Saturday, that would be cool too!
(Then a Poly meet on the beach for Wishes???? Maybe?????)
