There seems to be a lot of people going to Cedar Point in Ohio this summer. I was just wondering when everyone is going. I will be there June 20th with my HS marching band.

I won't be! I avoid that place like the plague in the summer. it gets so busy.

Have you ever been? It's really awesome! You will be a coaster snob after visiting though. You'll ride Space Mountain and be like..."that's it?" Make sure you ride the Raptor and the Magnum.

It will be busy, and hot so be prepared!

LOL. I'm not a big roller coaster fan. I don't even like Space Mountain. My friends (the ones I'm going with) were making fun of me in Disney because I won't ride the roller coasters in Kennywood, but I will ride RnRC. I will definitly tell my friends that they have to go on the Raptor and the Magnum. They might drag me on to one roller coaster, but I'm sure I'll be sitting on the bench most of the day. It should be fun, though.

Now that you said how crowded it will be, I'm a bit nervous. I HATE crowds and lines. Of course, we went to Geauga Lake for my 8th grade trip. there was NOONE there. It was raining fairly hard in the AM, though. That was fun. I was stupid and wore tennis shoes while all my friends wore flip flops. They were jumping in the puddles and splashing me. Within 5 minutes, I had a swimming pool in my shoes. LOL. Hot I don't mind, though.

You just have to go with the flow. It'll be busy...a lot busier than WDW in the summer. Expect to wait 2 hours for some of the coasters.

I'm not a big coaster freak either, but I LOVE the raptor, it's such a cool experience. Disaster transport is a lot like Space Mountain only way tamer, and slower.

Last year's new one is my favorite. I think it is called "Top Thrill Dragster," but am not sure. It is red and yellow, I think.

They just keep getting more and more fun.

Cedar Point is a LOT less crowded on weekdays than weekends. :)

They have some quickie passes, kind of like FastPass for some of the more popular rides, too.

The last few years, they moved a bunch of stuff from Geauga Lake (formerly Six Flags, Formerly Geauga Lake:rolleyes: ) over to CP, so there is a lot there for kids who aren't babies, but aren't ready for rollercoasters, too.

Have fun!

Just curious about when CP opens? I'm assuming they have like a May-August schedule, but I have no idea. Thanks for the info!

They open May 6 and close after Halloweekends (at Halloween). Hours vary. You can get the info at cedarpoint.com under "dates and hours."

MouseWorshipin - What have they brought over from Geauga Lake? I don't remember them adding anything new except larger rides since 2004.

We're going in May. We always go then--the weather is great--warm but not hot and the crowds are low.

Here's a trick we always use that might work for you since you're not a big coaster person: I really hate to stand in long lines so we skip Millenium Force and Top Thrill Dragster. We start with Magnum and work our way to the back, Magnum, then Gemini, then the Mean Streak, then around to the Mine Ride and then the log flume. No lines because everyone is waiting for the biggies.

I hope you have a great time!

I asked this in another thread too. WHICH new rides are from Geauga Lake? I've seen NO new rides that would make me think they came from somewhere else. Can you explain????
Thanks! :thumbsup2

We’ll be there on Sunday, June 18.

Do any of you CP regulars have a “touring plan” you can recommend?!?!

DS10 has been checking out all the RCs on the website and he’s fired up. I’m sure we’ll have to do Millenium Force at least one time!

CP is long and narrow, head straight to the back of the park and ride the major rides you want first. Mantis, Dragster, Millenium Force, etc, then work you way back to the front of the park when everyone else is at the back.
Same as in Disney, lines are shorter earlier in the day. If you go at peak times, expect 1-2 hours for most major attractions.
We can go to CP anytime we want, so we usually just skip the long lines and do the other stuff we love.

We'll be there several times this summer. The past few years we've been buying season passes since we only live about 4 hours away.

Our first trip will be Opening Day, May 6th. DH and I will be heading back again around June 5th since we're going to Put-In-Bay for 2 days. After that our next trip will be for the 4th of July. (Crazy I know-a first for us to go on that day.) Plus we plan on going for Labor Day and again for Halloweekends.

Yes, we are true coaster FREAKS! :smooth:

manchurianbrownbear Millenium Force is a MUST DO! It's the best RC, IMO.

Dont be scared off of Cedar Point by heat and crowds! :confused3 Ohio weather is funny. June can be 90 or it can be 60. As for crowds at CP, they are up and down too. We've found Sundays to be low days.

As for a touring plan, I agree with AprilShower, head for the back of the park and hit the big rides first thing in the morning.

I don't know any new rides from GL either. Cedar Point has always had a lot of rides for the kiddies. We've been season passholders for years now and I'm quite experienced with the kiddy stuff.

Welcome to Ohio!!! :)

I have a 4 year old. Would there be rides suitable for him there?

CP has a good assortment of rides for kids, we have had season passes since 2004 when my sons were 1 and 3. All of Camp Snoopy would be good for him, and it is set up so that an adult can ride with the kids on most of the rides in Camp Snoopy. They also have an area in the front called Kiddy Kingdom, that has more of the carnival type kiddie rides, as well as kiddie bumper cars. Kids can also ride a lot of the non-coaster rides, when accompanied by and adult. They also have 2 kiddie coaster, Jr. Gemini (older and slower of the 2) and Woodstock Express, which reminds me of Goofy's barnstormer. Check out the website at cedarpoint.com, I think you will be surprised to fine how much there is for kids to do. We have been going several times a year since 2004 and have yet to get bored. DH and I both love coasters, but have not had a chance to ride them since DS5 was born, and we still enjoy going.

We already have plans to go opening weekend, the weekend before Memorial Day, and one of the Holloween weekends, with several trips in between.

I might be going for one day in August when I'm visiting my parents for my grandparents birthday party. Although right now I have no set plans. I've never been so any strategies people have to avoid the long lines would be great. We will only be going for the day if we do go. The starting at the back of the park will probably be what will have us avoid the most lines it sounds like.

I said, "the last few years," I don't know the exact dates.

Sadly, I don't know the names of the rides. I spent my youth living about 4 minutes from Sea World & Geauga Lake, about 25 minutes by bike. We'd even ride our bikes over and park them at Lawson's and sneak in (which you cannot do anymore - don't try this at home!) when our mom's said we couldn't go. I was there SO much that I called the rides the same thing the other kids did, "the music ride," "the snow ride," "the arm ride." The arm ride *might* have been called the Spider or the Octopus, dunno.

The Music Ride and The Snow Ride were moved over to CP, with other stuff. CP used to be mostly rollercoasters. They had the baby area, but there wasn't anything for the kid who is about 6-10 years old, still afraid of coasters. Now there is. But now there isn't much for that crowd at Geauga Lake.

I wish one of them would put the old Potato Sacks back in. It was a giant slide you went down, with little bumps. You slid on a potato sack. I don't know what that was called either.

Sorry! I could find my way around Geauga Lake blindfolded as a kid, but have no idea what the official names were.

And I miss Sea World so much I could scream...but I guess that's a different thread.

Thanks all! My friends are all coaster freaks, so I really can't just skip over them. I was talking to a friend of mine today (she went last year). She said that it was 93 degrees the day they went last year. She said there were no crowds because it was so hot, but they got lost. LOL.

We are from PA (right next to Ohio), so I would imagine the weather would be the same. That I really don't care about. LOL. The warmer the better.

We went to Geauga Lake a few years ago. My friends brought me on one of the coasters. I don't remember what it was called, but it was basically like a big U in the air. you go forward and straight up and then backward and then forward again and you just keep going backand forth. I screamed at my friend the whole time "I'm gonna get you! I hate you!" LOL. In Old Town in Orlando, I kept yelling at my friend that I hated them all on the kiddy roller coaster. Not the real tiny one that just goes in a circle, that one was fun, especially since we got stuck on it HEHE). I mean the bigger one that is like a real roller coaster, but not really that big. LOL.

Definitely! :thumbsup2 We took our DS last summer when he was only 2 and a half and he had a blast! Camp Snoopy has lots to keep little kids entertained.
