Really came off as one of those times when some things are better left unsaid, until you're certain you can/should say them.

Well, it's kind of like talking to children. You dangle the prize in front of them to get them to do the work. "You want to sleep over at Sally's house on Saturday? Well, you need to clean your room and be nice to your brother."

Same thing here. "We can have 4th of July, but only if you do x,y, and z." I don't blame him for putting it out there as a way to incentivize complying with the rules for a bit longer. (It's unfortunate that grown adults have to be talked to in this way in the first place, but that's where we're at, apparently.)

It is still not the easiest to get appointments. It took me hours of refreshing to find an appointment for DH yesterday. I can only look at Giant Eagle and Marc's since they don't ask for qualifying information. There has been nothing close to us either. It will take him about 30-45 minutes to get the site. I have been looking all day to find something closer and there has been nothing.

Went thru this last month when we got vaccinated in Texas.

1) 30-45 minute drive is nothing. If you find something less than an hour away, take it. I also was initially looking close to the house but quickly gave that up.
2) Search the websites around 5 am - if you're not up, set an alarm
3) Commercial pharmacies and grocery stores are your best bet; they have their act together far more than relying on your local government. We did CVS; once you're in, the website not only holds your place in line, it also automatically schedules your 2nd shot if needed. Also no referral required at CVS (and most other commercial places).

So by the end of this month almost one third the entire population will be vaccinated and by end of next month over one half the entire population will be vaccinated. Yet, there are some who still think we should stay sheltered in our house with zero social interaction--no schools, no church, no nothing. I am 60+ year old and this is not living. I would rather die than have to spend any more time locked down. Life is hugging my grand kids and spending time with my family. So yes, I am fully vaccinated and yes I now ignore all these silly restrictions. I do social distance and wear masks not because I believe I need to, but because others freak out if I do not.

You are not "ignoring silly restrictions" if you are social distancing and wearing a mask in public, got vaccinated and are able to spend time unmasked and close with your family. That's literally what the guidelines suggest. You are doing the right thing so what is the point in pretending you are not?

You mean people are still staying away from their families?
My parents are 80 and 87 and got their second vaccine a week ago. Up until now, we have all been very careful to stay away (we've had a few socially distanced short visits). We are interacting on a regular basis with our 3 kids (as are my siblings with theirs). Our kids are 20 and up, with various degrees of exposure of their own. We have been willing to take some chances with our own exposure, but not with my parents.

Now that various members of the family are getting vaccinated, we intend to celebrate the 4th based on our own assessment of the situation. We don't need someone in Washington telling us what we can do at this point. We know enough to figure it out on our own.

My husband just got word that his work will be included as critical infrastructure and thus included in this combined Phase 3/4 (medical conditions and other essential workers with specific qualifications that had not been included in Phase 1 or 2) about to start :hyper::hyper:

Up until now he would have been Phase 5 (gen pop) but we always kept in the back of our minds that it was a possibility he could get it through work but because he can work from home (though he is in the office right now) he would not have been considered high up enough in priority. We were always hoping though that he could be eligible due to his work and now we know.

It's cute that my husband was like "we should probably put together a list of places"...as if I haven't been on top of that for months now

The silly restrictions saying have no family gatherings. Stay shut up in you house and do not socially engage in gatherings of more than 4 people.

Is this something in your state specifically? It is not a recommendation from the CDC and for example my state (Maryland) hasn't mentioned gatherings (discouraging of >25 people at an indoor gathering) since well before Thanksgiving). 4 is extreme and not in line with any current guidelines as far as I can tell.

That is the exact number that President Biden stated was the max for 4th of July gatherings.

1. Yes we are keeping the appointment but looking for one closer if we can. He will go to this one if we can't find another
2. I have not heard this one. I will try it. I have heard that Rite Aid adds them at about midnight and CVS at about 7 am.
3. In the past I have looked at the CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Drug Mart, Marc's, Walmart and Giant Eagle. I can't look at most right now for DH as they have you enter the qualifying information first and if you don't meet them you can't go any further. Marc's and Giant Eagle do not so I am only looking at those right now. Friday Morning I will start with the others. Giant Eagle is the same was as CVS. Once I click confirm the appointment is mine and have 20 minutes to fill out the rest.

You mean people are still staying away from their families?

Yes some are. We are one of them. Other then dropping something off at my parents (staying for only a minute or so) I have not spent time with my mom. I haven't seen my sister, dad, brothers or grandparents since last summer other then on zoom get togethers. My kids have been remote all year (our choice) but will be going back on April 12th for the 4th quarter. I have been working from home for a year now and DH worked from home prior to this. We go to the grocery store and that is it. DD does still do horse backing riding lessons but nothing else. We won't even walk in a park if it is crowded.

Things are changing now since the kids will be going back to in person. I will be fully vaccinated by then and DH will have at least his first dose. Many family members will have it as well soon if not already. Myself and the kids are getting our hair cut at a salon for the first time since January 2020. DD cut her own hair in the summer and did a really good job at it. It didn't need to be fixed. We have trimmed DS's and we cut DH's as well.

I am so ready to get back to normal. We will still be cautious as the kids are not old enough yet but will let our guard down some.

We didn’t see my parents for a year without masks and distance. Only since we have been vaccinated and numbers are down did we eat in dining. My middle child is 15 but our highest risk kid, they (her medical team) think she had covid last March but thanks to no tests we dont know for sure. But the covid lung damage is pretty telling. She is now on six different daily medications to keep her oxygen levels up. She’s a high level athlete too- no not some lazy teen who sits on their phone eating pizza all day either. In fact I know of at least three other kids from her sport who have had lung and heart damage from covid. So yeah caution isnt stupid at all. Death is a low bar. If I could I would get her a vaccine this second. But she misses it by a year. 😡

That's so sad. There are promising stories coming out about vaccination helping long covid symptoms subside. I hope your daughter finds relief soon and that the vaccines are soon found to be safe and effective in children as well.

It's even more unfortunate that the President of the United States thinks he has the authority to do so. Grown adults have the right to make decisions on whom they want to associate with, what businesses they want to patronize and what risks they are willing to accept. My risk tolerance may be greater than yours, it may be less than yours, as adults we both should be able to make that choice for ourselves.
You mean people are still staying away from their families?
I have not seen my 82 year old grandmother since Christmas 2019, by my choice. I don't know how I would live with myself if I were to do something to endanger her. I will be going to see her for Easter this year. She's been vaccinated, I have had one dose and my wife has been vaccinated.
