CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Things have already changed. Once the vaccination availability and strategy becomes more robust, the changes will happen even more quickly. People refusing to get vaccinated are also holding up the process.

Right now, people refusing to get vaccinated have no impact because there are more than enough willing people to fill every slot. But the messaging around what vaccination means has been really discouraging to a lot of people who see themselves as low risk for the virus and are primarily motivated by a desire to go back to the enjoyable activities of 2019 and before. There does seem to be a loud subset of voices that are very invested in spreading the message, at this point at least, that there is no going back.

The pending OSHA guidelines @mom2rtk linked the story about are a prime example. We're a year into this thing, 20% of the population has gotten at least one dose of the vaccine, and now OSHA is going to impose a rule that will require layoffs or restructuring jobs at the plants where my husband and son work because the production line cannot realistically be modified for 6' spacing? And employers are supposed to find a way to modify production facilities, improve ventilation, etc. - changes that require, in many cases, major building and equipment renovations - under threat of fines, even for a vaccinated workforce, to comply with an order that's only expected to be in place for six months?

I think it depends on the state and possibly even the county. I know some places put a stop to including them because people were exploiting the elderly to get one (basically offering to take them to also qualify for the vaccine).

I would suggest looking up your county/state guidelines and reaching out to somebody at your county offices.

So I looked it up and found this included in the State definition of Health Care Personnel (Tier 1A): Primary care takers for persons with severe chronic medical conditions or with intellectual or developmental disabilities requiring a high level of daily care. Sounds like me. I will try to get an appointment based on this.

I am so tired of anyone who raises a concern about how we are moving forward being labeled as “fearful” or being seen as some idiot who falls for the media’s mass manipulation. There is a difference between total fear and having a healthy respect for a relatively new contagion that we only have 16 months of understanding on.

No one on here is saying everyone should hide in their houses and never interact with any one again. I’m certainly not—I’m going on vacation once adults in my family are vaccinated. But I don’t think it is prudent to have large indoor events or have giant gatherings with no mitigation efforts. More and more states are dropping all mitigation guidelines—while some restrictions should be eased, I don’t think it is wise to drop everything. Does that make me so afraid that I can’t think logically? There are many medical experts who are saying the same thing...let’s not take our eye off the ball. Of course there’s disagreement between professionals. People tend to discount any medical professional who doesn’t agree with their viewpoint as “wrong”. Well, I would guess to say most of those “wrong” experts (like Fauci as many on here have pointed out) still know a heck of a lot more than anyone on here who does their own “internet research”...
I agree there is too much name calling here if you are trying to take a middle of the road approach. You can be cautious but believe we have gone too far in restrictions. But you are either labeled fearful or a COVID denier when you bring up anything that goes against what someone else is saying.

I agree with you that we should take a thoughtful approach to reopening and it should be based on the numbers (most specifically the hospitalization numbers but overall numbers as well). At the same time I also believe that it is up to the individual to make a risk assessment for themselves and for their families on what they are going to do rather than rely on the government. It is easier for some then others but we all have to do it.

So, Biden has modified his July 4th statement to clarify we may NOT be ready for small family gatherings...I just...I dunno.

And this is why people of low risk have no confidence or desire to get the vaccine, they are done and over it. The constant back and forth is doing nothing.

And Biden is delusional if people will listen to it. There will be either way small family gatherings for the 4th just like there has been for almost every holiday since halloween. There will be even larger ones is sections of the country. People are moving on and ignoring the guidelines at this point.

Here in MA our Governor just announced new timelines based on assurances from the fed gov that supplies of vaccines will be available.

Starting April 5 people 55+ and starting April 19 everyone 16 and older.

I have only read the headlines... Didn't see his news conference but I am thrilled we are finally making progress here.

I am not sure what the timeline will be for actually getting an appointment but April is a month earlier than I expected based on the state's performance so I am excited.

Why would he say that? That is just strange, especially since he said all states must open up vaccines for everyone by May 1st and we would return to a sense of normalcy by summer. I just can't wrap my head around this. I am so sick of getting good news only to have the rug ripped out a few days later.

As Ohio has opened up to all as of this Friday, I can tell you that people are not having any problems making appointments.

It is still not the easiest to get appointments. It took me hours of refreshing to find an appointment for DH yesterday. I can only look at Giant Eagle and Marc's since they don't ask for qualifying information. There has been nothing close to us either. It will take him about 30-45 minutes to get the site. I have been looking all day to find something closer and there has been nothing.

Have you tried CSU?

I am not able to until Friday. They ask for qualifying info and he doesn't meet the criteria until Friday. I will look there and CVS first thing Friday morning. He is really hoping for J&J but will take what he can get.

To be fair, he said the night of his address that it was a goal, not a guarantee. That there was a lot of road to travel between now and then, and a lot of things that had to go right for it to happen. That we had to get vaccines out faster, and people had to keep the mitigation measures going until the vaccines could reach enough people. While the vaccine part is looking good, states/individuals throwing basic mitigation measures away won't help reach that goal, so I don't blame him for saying this.

But the whole thing was dumb to begin with.
