How is requiring a Covid19 vaccine any different than requiring a full suite of vaccines for a child to go to school? They require about 16 shots, at least. I'm not saying I agree with it necessarily, just interpreting what I am reading and hearing in the mainstream news.

Also, Ticketmaster has appeared to back pedaled on the mandatory vaccine idea for now. https://news.yahoo.com/no-ticketmaster-wont-force-covid-145331418.html
School is one thing. (Although at least around here, exceptions are not hard to get).

Government buildings, stores, private businesses, concerts (all mentioned upthread) is a different ball game.

Makes sense to me to require proof of vaccination in most of the bold face places.
I'd add physician, dentist offices.
(Obviously once the vaccine is widely available. And I understand there may be medical exemptions.)

I really don't think we're going to see this. We don't do it now for vaccinations for illnesses far more serious (contagious and deadly) than covid. I don't think we're going to rewrite our expectations of personal/medical privacy over this pandemic.

I just don't see it. I don't think any company is going to be willing to accept losing the business of people who just aren't comfortable with their health information going out to every venue and company they visit or who don't have a smartphone/aren't willing to dedicate space to such a niche app, and I don't think the tech is likely to be user-friendly enough to succeed either. Ticketmaster can't even manage a digital ticketing app that works reliably and doesn't hold up entry! I've been to two different shows in the last couple of seasons where the app crashed and those who hadn't printed tickets were stuck standing around waiting for it to start working again... and that's a purely internal process. This would have far more moving parts, not the least of which would be getting to a point where test results are returned timely enough to qualify. And even if all the tech can be worked out, it would have to clear federal regulators... which is going to be a high bar in the current political climate.
I get what you’re saying but minus the technical difficulties it would be a relatively anonymous thing. Again like how a digital credit card works where a one time token is issued for that transaction. This person is linked to this ticket and they’re not going to spread the virus. Event over, info gone. But yeah, there are obviously going to be folks who worry about their personal info being out there. My own DH will not use Touch/Face ID or things like Apple Pay no matter many times I explain the tech to him. We’ll see if any of this comes to pass but I imagine some will have to suck it up on either side of the issue whether you’re for or against it.

Not really. Ticketmaster just said THEY would not require vaccines or negative test results, that would be up to the venue or event organizer to mandate and enforce. Ticketmaster is just a middle man. They will make the tech available and event venues will make their requirements for entry based on local laws/regulations or the event organizer requirements.

Eli Lilly just got their second EUA authorization- it's a late stage drug called Barcinitib that was created for arthritis but has proven to reduce symptoms in severe Covid cases. It is widely available and there will be no supply constraints.

FYI: The results that got to this authorization came from a double-blind placebo group study conducted by the NIH in which Barcinitib was combined with Remdesivir.

Pfizer goes to FDA with vaccine today. Says vaccine may be available by mid to late December for most vulnerable. Says protection is achieved 28 days after the first shot. The two doses are given 3 weeks apart, so an extra week needed to achieve desired effect. That puts us into mid-January before the first recipients achieve protection from the virus. It's going to be a rough 2 months.

I just listened to the NJ Covid Presser. Our Governor said that he spoke with Pfizer CEO yesterday and that if all goes well with F.D.A review, NJ would get its first shipment of vaccine by mid to late December, second dose by late December to early January. 130,000 doses per shipment. The Pfizer vaccine will be shipped directly to hospitals who have the proper storage freezers for that vaccine. First up will be the frontline healthcare workers, which is 650K ppl in NJ. 100K of those people work in nursing homes. They didn't say if those people will get the vaccine first in that group, but they should. And then there are 90K nursing home residents in NJ. So, roughly 750K people in my state will get the first several shipments it seems. They're hopeful that the Moderna vaccine will come into the mix by early January, and then things will pick up. He said their goal is to vaccinate all adults in NJ within six months.

Thank you! Is your 130k number a typo- I can't make the math work here.

No, it was 130K per shipment....the first in mid to late December. The second late December to early January. Why does that number seem off to you?

So I guess they are aiming to vaccinate adults first, before kids? It sounds like he wants it mandatory but I don't know what law is in place to make it so.

Because you're talking about a first round of 750k to vaccinate on 130k courses of vaccine.

Oh..sorry, I just mentioned that we had 650K healthcare workers, and 90K nursing home residents, so really 740K if I"m being exact. They didn't say they'd be able to vaccinate all of those people with the first two shipments, which is 2 shipments of 130K each, so enough 130K to get both doses. They just said that they're starting with that group of 740K people. It's going to take awhile. But...they did mention that they expect the Moderna vaccine to come in January, and that will speed things up. And hopefully another couple of new vaccines behind them.
