CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Here's my read on people's perception of the vaccine: I predict many more people will get it than expected due to the following:

1. They'll see friends and family do it and feel a sense of community pressure.
2. They will see prohibitions for the non-vaccinated at places of business and entertainment.
3. The overall trust level will be higher under Biden than Trump.
I don't think prohibitions will be implemented until you can get a LOT more people vaccinated, if at all. And, how would you prove you got the vaccination? A screen shot on a phone? Photoshop. A paper certificate you actually need to carry around? Photoshop & paper won't last. Last but not least, who is going to check the validity of what you present? And you think every business is going to do it? I have a bridge to sell you.

Read up on what Ticketmaster plans to do for live events moving forward. There are ways to determine people's vaccine status or test result status without violating health privacy laws. But yes, basically, it will utilize 3rd party apps that link health data between labs/pharmacies and the venue. These app companies are already working on these integrations. They generate a QR code linked to a ticket holder to provide entry credentials. You will see this transfer over to various types of travel, things like conventions, sporting events, etc. Basically anything that requires a ticketed entry can use this type of tech to only allow either vaccinated people or those who have tested negative within a narrow window access to the event.

@tvguy do a bit of googling and you'll see the cold storage issue has been talked about for several months already.

The reason it's blowing up again now in the news is because of the efficacy of the vaccines being released, what was still a far off thought in the minds of the public is now much closer but they were talked about previously in the public for sure.

You can choose not to believe anyone but the articles and the discussion are out there should you wish to learn more :)

A few months ago, I (jokingly) posted a reason why nay-sayers would still get vaccinated.

1: Hey Bob, you get vaccinated?

2: Naw- I don't trust that stuff.

1: Too bad- I have 50 yard line seats for the playoffs tomorrow.

2: Okay! I'll be at CVS!

Well...that would no longer appear to be a joke.

It could at least somewhat analogous but at my NFL stadium in order to get access to your ticket for the suite level/club level you must submit proof of a negative test within 72hours of the game to the person holding the tickets (there is one person in each suite/batch of tickets for club level seats).

But to that point they also showed a weakness to that measure. To my knowledge it's only happened once since NFL started up again but a person did not submit proof of a negative test prior to the game but was given their ticket anyways. That person's test came back positive. No one ended up positive as a result, to my knowledge and they may not be disclosing it, but they were able to do a very good job of contact tracing to notify the individuals in the area to isolate (ended up being 10 people).

So it's possible I think for a vaccine requirement, though I'm iffy on the ethics of it depending on just what situation the vaccine is being required, but it also means we need to learn how to tighten as much as possible holes that can come up.

I was going to say a barcode type of thing on your phone. Digital Drivers Licenses are starting to become a thing as are most things. Apple Health can be connected to your health care providers so you can carry around your health records right on your phone. Basically I think there will be “an app for that.”

Thank you for this article, I’m going to send it to my DD. The thing she misses most besides Disneyland is live music.

If they did, it was not well publicized. Like I posted, having first hand knowledge THAT is the issue now, finding a source of the extreme cold storage equipment, ordering it, setting up the equipment and setting up a delivery system that can maintain that temperature
NBC Today show had a story this AM about that issue. They have found a distributor that can transport the vaccine for up to 10 days transportation time. The vaccine is good for 2 hours once it is thawed. What bothers me is that the general public isn't expected to get the vaccine until AT LEAST April, probably more like May-June. That's too late if they expect all the kids to get vaccinated in order for schools and sports to resume. No knock on the people making/distributing the vaccine, it's just I hope and pray that's not the criteria my kids' school district (teacher's union) is expecting.

Like I said, the hosptial here that will be the distribution center for much of California just got word last week to move forward with finding a vendor with the refrigeration equipment, then pull permits for the necessary construction. So doesn't matter what I believe, the folks RESPONSIBLE for making it happen are just getting the word

I'd doubt they just found out.
Pfizer has been working with hospitals on logistics of getting vaccines in place for months.

Pfizer's vice president Tanya Alcorn told TODAY that the company has "developed a really innovative proprietary shipper that's proven and tested to be able to maintain the temperatures needed for our vaccine for up to 10 days." She added that Pfizer plans to have a "virtual control tower" to track vaccine distribution and ensure each tray of vials gets to its desired destination safely and on time.

I agree it's easier to do for TICKETED events (but see @Mackenzie Click-Mickelson post above of how that's still not a sure thing). But PP included "businesses" in those expected to require a vaccine. Sorry, I just don't see Wal*mart (insert store here) requiring you to present vaccine proof to enter.

UM not true. My elderly mom and dad knew all about it weeks (months?) ago. Before Halloween they were talking about the vaccine and that they are hopeful but not too hopeful because of the problems with distributing DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS. This has been common knowledge for a LONG time. Turn on the news. They have been talking about it forever!

LOL. Yes, there has been speculation.

How did asking the states to be ready for distribution divert resources?
You maybe don’t know how emergency management/disaster preparedness works. Gearing up for a mass vaccine distribution takes a lot of time and resources, in both private and public settings/agencies. States can’t drop everything else they are working on to focus only on one issue. There is a lot going on right now. There will be logistical challenges to distributing vaccines even if the companies say they have a plan.

?
Are you showing me QR codes can be fabricated or easily made? I make them myself to add videos to scrapbook pages so I know it can be done. However I don’t think it will be that simplistic or easily falsified. I’m going to guess that there will be unique “tokens” generated like there are for your credit cards in a digital wallet.

People need to provide vaccination records for various things already-travel, school, jobs etc.- it’s something we’ve been doing for a very long time and as far as I know falsification of vaccination records hasn’t been a huge problem. Do I think you’ll need proof for general, everyday life? No, probably not. But things like getting on a airplane, concerts, theme parks and sporting events, school, yeah, most likely. That or you’re going to have to be committed to being tested a LOT. These are mostly privately owned entities so they’re going to do what causes the least amount of liability and that would be not holding “super spreader events.”

Agree or disagree: when enough people worldwide get one of these two (or three or more) vaccines, then Covid is effectively over.

But isn't this still Trump's vaccine? I doubt they changed the formula after election results came in. Wasn't the argument that is was being rushed?

I think it will be required for all employees in retail and otherwise. Small businesses may not require it if it's work from home situation. Perhaps even insurance will require it or will not insure you.

The vaccine certificate will be tied to your phone and you will need to have it scanned to enter a store, airport, anything really. China is doing this already. All information and their wallet is on their phone.

Don't laugh, I've read about this - nothing I made up.
