CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Let me give you a personal example of how and WHY vaccine numbers will keep improving per day:

My uncle is over 80 and lives in California. He was told weeks ago that he had to get vaccinated through his hospital. Only option. His hospital just told him daily they had no supply and would let him know when they did.

So last Friday, he got an email that everyone in San Diego who was eligible could register for a massive vaccine drive at Petco Park (home of the Padres). He got an appointment for six days later (yesterday) and was in and out in one hour.

More and more states and areas are figuring out what works. As we speak.

Yes, this is just how it's going to be. Some states are doing better than others, but it's tough to compare say....West Virginia or Alaska....to New Jersey. The Feds can do their best to make sure supply keeps flowing to the states...and that they have the supplies we need.

I do hope there is a massive 9/11 style commission after the worst of this so that we have a much, much better response when this happens again.

TOTALLY agreed. And I think there will be- it needs to be run by doctors and scientists and not by the government.

I sure hope so. It seems we have plenty of people who want to be vaccinated and we have the vaccine (with hopefully JNJ on board soon). It seems like it is a logistical problem. As in how do we get these vaccines in peoples arms.

I, like many, are chomping at the bit to be vaccinated, but in reality it could be months and months for me. I really want to travel this summer, but will not do so without being vaccinated. It is so frustrating.

Anyone know what's happening with Novavax?
I’m in their phase 3 trial for the US. Started end of Dec here, they are hoping for 30000 enrolled and had about 15000 enrolled when I had my first injection about 10 days ago. My site was enrolling about 12 people a day. I think they are hoping to apply for authorization in early May. Initial data out of UK looked pretty good I thought

Don't lose hope! Between Pfizer and JNJ, there will be more than enough doses in that time frame to vaccinate everyone who wants it.

I will say I had some selfish motivations though. My job is not considered essential and I’m in early 40s. My states timeline puts me being vaccinated late summer to early fall (hopefully they get rolling faster). So I decided to take a 67% chance of having something now vs. 0%. And like the other trials, they will unblind and give the actual vaccine to those who got placebo as soon as authorization is approved. But the faster they enroll, the sooner they can get that 3 month data done!

There will be a Super Bowl ad starring a very important person and her two dogs urging Americans to wear masks. While I find nothing wrong with this sentiment, wouldn't the most valuable TV time in history be better used by urging people to get vaccinated?

I guess I'd suggest that both things are said....wear a mask, and when your group is called and you can get an appointment....do not throw away your shot! Sorry...big Hamilton fan here ;).

I heard on the news this morning that they are planning on sending a mask to everyone in the U.S.

One thing that the folks in charge need to get a handle on is the long term care vaccinations. Our state has (from what I understand) no control over giving those shots. While the state has been doing great getting shots in arms (over one million done, 96% of all first shots available are already given, 49 % of second shots given (i am guessing lower due to timing) and this comes to a total of 80% of available doses given) in the LTC setting they have only given 59% first doses, 14% second and total of 36%. WTH is going on here? i understand the federal govt gave the job to walgreens/ cvs but come on people! They clearly can't get it done! Time to move it to folks who can get shots in arms!

Window dressing, yes, but a complete change of direction from the prior "masks are for sissies" theme. I think it goes along with letting science, etc, dictate how we respond to the pandemic.

And a commercial telling people to wear masks, as the mandate has gone out for masks on all public transportation, is "on brand." And everyone CAN wear a mask who wishes to (or should.) Right now, not everyone can get a vaccine. It speaks to the fact that in the short term, the vaccine is not the answer. Good pandemic protocol is.
