CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Window dressing, yes, but a complete change of direction from the prior "masks are for sissies" theme. I think it goes along with letting science, etc, dictate how we respond to the pandemic.

And a commercial telling people to wear masks, as the mandate has gone out for masks on all public transportation, is "on brand." And everyone CAN wear a mask who wishes to (or should.) Right now, not everyone can get a vaccine. It speaks to the fact that in the short term, the vaccine is not the answer. Good pandemic protocol is.

Its moot at this point. The people who are not wearing masks at this point are not going to be persuaded by a commercial. I cannot tell you how many masks I have. I don’t need the government to send me another one.

I had to buy a number of different masks to get the right size for me, same for the my husband. Cloth, both level 3 and non level 3 paper masks, today I ordered a pack of KN94 masks. always looking for something that doesn’t gap open on the sides or at the top. I can’t personally see the benefit of sending a one size fits all to everyone In the country. Except to the company who makes the masks. Sounds like mask theatre to me.

I think this ad is running during the Puppy Bowl not the Super Bowl so maybe the cost wasn’t so high. It also explains the presence of the dogs. 😂

I read a separate article that said there will be a thank you message to healthcare workers before the game and that the WH has been in talks with the NFL and other prominent brands to integrate a pro-mask AND pro-vaccine message during the game so it sounds like they are trying to message both.

Oh, I agree with the message for sure. I just wonder how much good it will do as the "masks are for sissies" crowd are not likely to change course now. I guess I just think that whoever is continuing to wear masks....will keep on doing so. And vice verse for the "sissies" crew.

I had to chuckle at our Governor here in NJ....he increased indoor dining capacity from 25% to 35%. I know that some people who have had covid, who still won't eat indoors. I know people who have never had covid who think it's all a joke...and never stopped eating indoors. I guess I just feel like we're all in our camps at this point.
But I agree, it certainly can't hurt for the message to be in line with the new mandate.

I agree. Unless they're going to send out level 3 surgical masks, or KN-95s/N-95s.....in quantities for each household, that effort seems like window dressing to me.

Agree. Most people have probably got a fair number of freebies already. Our health insurance company sent one for everyone on the policy months ago. And DH's workplace gave him one. And we've picked up a few here and there from overzealous store employees who were handing them out, not noticing the ones already on our faces! Granted, these have all been cloth or disposables, not the greatest protection, so we've bought our own. I think it's a nice gesture, but I agree it was a better idea a year ago.

But... They might be talking about sending out high quality masks to every home. I read a couple of weeks ago that France and/or Germany (can't remember if it was one or both) was going to send out N95/equivalent, and they were going to require you to wear them when in public. So if that's what happens, it might help as it would get people to maybe replace a lower quality cloth mask with a high filtration model. Just have to see.

I heard on the news this morning that they are planning on sending a mask to everyone in the U.S.
This seems like a silly waste of money to me. 80% of people are getting it in their own homes - be that from their family who lives there or friends who drop by to visit. Nobody wears a mask in their own home. NOBODY.

It's been discussed, just as it was discussed a couple of times in the former administration last year.
There is no current plan in place as of right now.

We've liked the KN94. They seem to work well.
I agree, it's takes a bit of experimentation to find the right fit.

Daily vaccinations have leveled off. It seems reasonable to make a guess based on the available data and plan accordingly.

Somewhat, in the US. Not so much in many of the other countries talked about in that article, because they're a few weeks behind us in ramping up their logistics. Canada is just getting started.

I think it takes the right people sending the message, and that very important lady and her dogs aren't it but some football personalities might be. I doubt anything is going to sway the hardcore opposed, but those who are more of a "why bother" stance or a position of skepticism about their effectiveness are probably persuadable. And a lot of them are likely to be watching Sunday's game.

Really? "NOBODY"?
Beg to differ. We have worn masks inside when one of us had a known exposure. It sucked, but none of us got infected.
Beg to differ here, too. We wear masks in our own home whenever my parents visit -- for their protection -- and we wear masks in their home, too. And we wear masks whenever DH is contacted about a known exposure from work. (Thankfully, this doesn't happen often.) And I agree with you that so far it has worked well.

The health department has been giving away masks for months. Many stores have them as you walk in...just in case. And FTR...I don't know ANYONE who refuses to wear a mask when necessary or required. Everyone has their own comfort level and I respect that.

This could also help to account for the precipitous drop in cases. The conversation since Oct or Nov has been about in-home spread among small social groups. If most people are forming relatively stable groups - ie, I see my mom, mother-in-law, and members of my brother-in-law's household with fewer precautions, but that's it (and vice-versa) - one person getting the virus is likely to rapidly spread it to everyone, but unlikely to spread it elsewhere. So big spike as the "bubbles" get infected, then big drop as they solidify into little knots of immunity.

TOTALLY agreed. And I think there will be- it needs to be run by doctors and scientists and not by the government.
Yes! The response of our province has been led by a doctor (thankfully), and our premier is a doctor as well. We haven't had a case here (that wasn't caught at the border/directly travel related) since last spring and life has been "new normal" (i.e. activities/school like normal but with masks) since last summer. Wish everywhere was like this.
