CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

It’s still about 60% for and 40% waiting/against at my facility (acute rehab with cardio/pulm rehab and a COVID unit).

That’s all I’m really willing to say because this discussion (not just here on the DIS, but everywhere) is exhausting to me, but I thought others would be interested in how it’s playing out among some healthcare workers.

You're making it a 1/0 binary situation. Those 40% that you say are against it likely are not all against it. Many of those not wanting it now are likely just wanting to wait until sometime later this year for various reasons. That is the case at the hospitals and offices in my area.

OWS also says today that the % of vaccine used vs what has been sent out is now starting to increase.
We're still waiting in my state for accurate numbers which I'm eager to learn. They have said several times now that the number CDC reflects isn't accurate because they haven't been able to input the data for several reasons. One of the more recent reasons brought up is they are trying to get people vaccinated over worrying about data input. I mean..I can't argue with that I suppose.

Sorry... OWS = ?
Trying to find info on up-to-date info in CA and it has been non-existent...I think? Any idea where to look? Also, we are far from any sort of reservation system as has been discussed here for other states. How does that work?

CA has a weekly youtube Live presentation where they will be discussing such things (hopefully) today @ 3pst. Will try and follow it but the meeting is 3 hours long (!).

Operation Warp Speed.

My county just announced the next phase would be open Monday 1/11. My work group does NOT fall into the 1B category like I thought it would... not sure what I think about that. We have no public contact (police dispatch) but we currently have 4 people out presumed positive and about 6 more of us who were potentially exposed when an employee decided to come to work despite running a significant fever and having had body aches the day before... if the dispatch center isn't staffed, no one is getting emergency services.

I hope everyone who wants a vaccine can get one, soon. My parents aren't quite old enough yet to get into the 1B category (75 and older). They're the ones I most want it for.

My county (Manatee) has officially given up on its reservation system. There were too many complaints from the elderly. After trying multiple times, I agree that it was straight up garbage. So starting tomorrow at 10 pm, people can sign up for a lottery system. Appointments will be filled randomly to those who sign up.

Kind of an obvious, no? Unless people are returning the vaccine, how would the ratio of administered:delivered go down?

I literally said “against/WAITING”.

I'm watching my county's podcast update from yesterday where our health director is discussing vaccine distribution...the thing repeated again and again is supply supply supply. That's our hurdle, not distribution (which by all accounts they are happy with), not interest (which based on the numbers thrown out there's high interest), not the order of who is getting the vaccine (he spoke towards the reasons why this or that group is high) but simply not having enough vaccines provided for the level of vaccination being attempted. We know this will eventually get better and he speaks to only having 2 vaccines with hoping others will soon join in. He literally said if we got the vaccines, all we needed, we'd be done in a few days time.

What I really appreciated from him is he went over the order of the plan and the reasons why. He understands the anxiety towards who is included in what but he did give reasoned responses for why.

Without going through all the posts, why do people think many in healthcare/medical personnel aren't getting the shot? I think there is always the assumption that the conspiracy group/deniers are foolish or not educated, so why are so many in the medical field not getting the vaccine?

In addition to everything @Jonfw2 said above, another thing I've heard from some of the health care workers I know personally is that they've already had covid and the evidence suggests that they have natural immunity of some not-insignificant duration, so they are passing on the vaccine until supplies are more adequate. Which is an angle I hadn't thought of, because I also know some health care workers who are straight-up anti-vaxxers and I assumed that most who are refusing the vaccine are in that group, but it does make a sort of sense given how widespread covid has been among frontline workers and how other-centered those who choose caring careers can be.

Well, D's rapid test was negative and the PCR test was negative as well. Great news so far, as she lives with us and her brother is high risk category.

They called her with the results and asked her to come in to help in the facility and get the vaccine. Had several more residents test positive including the head physician. It is moving thru that facility fast.

Glad she tested negative. Thank her for me. My mom lives in a senior facility. The aids are so important when we are unable to visit To help.

UPDATE: What a complete headache that was! I don't envy those who are making the decisions, but at some point you just have to say enough. There were 20 people on the panel, each representing a different special interest group, not to mention the dozens of groups they mentioned that e-mailed asking for special consideration. No wonder the meeting is 3 hours long each week. I still have no idea when or how the vaccine is being distributed. At one point they were asked how we can track how may doses have been administered and nobody on the panel knew - could only offer "ask your local health department". Incredible. The last hour was dedicated to programs to encourage people to get the vaccine. Here's an idea; nothing motivates like abandonment. Back of the line if you don't want the vaccine - why doesn't that work?

Good news is the teachers in my daughters (small) private school have a vaccine date! They pushed back re-opening the school a week so they could all get the vaccine 3rd week of January (yea!).

Bad news is the public school either does not have a date or has not announced it.

Also, my Mom (75) has not heard.

Honestly, I think at this point we would actually have better luck with paper signups, because the sheer number of people trying to simultaneously access websites and phone lines are taking them down -- we don't have enough bandwidth, either, unless Google wants to create a universal signup system and push the names down to local authorities.

Let people put their names & contact info down on paper with best time blocs, and either drop it at supermarkets/pharmacies to be picked up daily, or mail it in. People who have severe mobility issues should have the shot arranged for them by their regular health-care provider. The slips can be processed by data entry; clerks assign a slot and inform the person when it is, with a few days notice. Miss your slot and you have to start over again. Centers with extra doses could search by time bloc and call up folks who checked availability for last-minute same-day slots. While that seems clunky, and actually is in this day and age, it's also pretty tech-failure-proof, because it doesn't need a GUI interface & wouldn't cause bandwidth issues. It needs unskilled manpower, but these days we have plenty of that to spare, with all of the folks who have been turfed out of their jobs by the pandemic (call on grocers, delivery services, etc. to donate gift cards to compensate volunteers for their time; THEY, in turn, can be compensated via tax breaks.)

Isn't the point to keep people staying home more? And right now the USPS is..well it's not one I would use if I wanted to put my name in for a vaccine.

Websites crashing suck but there's simply too many people IMO to rely on paper and pen at the onset to given contact information for a vaccine for the several hundred million people we have. It could work I think for much much much smaller areas like where everyone already knows everyone and a small group of people can drop by their house to pick it up.
