CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

This exactly is the problem - some don’t believe it’s a pandemic. To them, it’s only old people dying or people with poor lifestyle choices/underlying conditions. I guess people need to be dying on the streets for it to be considered a pandemic for them.

It’s completely exhausting and disheartening and some days I get back into a really bad mindset where I feel so hopeless and like this will never end.

The majority of healthcare workers are refusing the vaccines. Just focus on you and your family or you'll go crazy. People cannot be forced to take medicine or prophylactics if they don't want it.

I don't think one follows the other. High demand among the parts of the population most likely to experience severe illness doesn't necessarily translate to high acceptance across the board. My state prioritized health care and frontline workers ahead of seniors... and we're seeing about a 50% opt-out rate among those populations. A lot of my friends thought FL was crazy to put seniors in the first group, rather than first responders, but at least they're making progress because they prioritized a group that will line up to get the shot. Our local delays in getting shots in arms are partly because so many of the priority-one group members aren't interested and the logistics planning for expanding to priority-two groups wasn't ready because the first group *should* have accounted for all of the doses currently on hand and then some.
I think that is one of the reasons we have only vaccinated 5 million and currently have 2/3 of our vaccine supplies sitting unused - we underestimated how many healthcare workers would opt out and didn't have a plan for when they did.

...."One senior official told The Daily Beast that as part of the hours-long meeting Camp David meeting Tuesday, officials discussed the need for states to hand out the vaccine to individuals outside of the frontline health-care worker population if there are leftover doses. They also put together a plan to work with states over the next two weeks to ensure that vaccine shipments are sent to pharmacies instead of health-care departments or hospitals as a way to make the distribution process easier and more manageable. Operation Warp Speed officials hope to use the partnership with more than 19 pharmacy chains in 40,00 locations across the country to scale distribution by February."

Actual good news that I am absolutely certain no one could possibly argue with... 🧐.

On a serious, note, the article touches on an interesting point regarding the supposed reluctance of nursing home workers to get vaccinated- CVS attributes that to nursing homes not wanting their entire staffs getting vaxxed at once, in case any would need to miss time.

My oldest is a PTA in a healthcare and rehab center. The facility was finally scheduled for the vaccine this week. Unfortunately a little over 2 weeks ago they had their first case of COVID hit. Resident cases are rising rapidly, and the healthcare workers are also being impacted. They are now up to at least a dozen residents/healthcare providers who have tested positive. DD was to get her vaccine yesterday but is now on a wait to see if she has COVID, as she has some symptoms and was recently working with 2 of the residents who have since tested positive.

Now my SIL works for a hospital in the business office. They are in a separate building from the hospital and she doesn't come into contact with any patients or medical personnel but has already had the vaccine, she was in the last group. Started there about 3 weeks ago. She hesitated and knows people who opted out. Wish the vaccine could be distributed to those who want it, and are most vulnerable.

Without going through all the posts, why do people think many in healthcare/medical personnel aren't getting the shot? I think there is always the assumption that the conspiracy group/deniers are foolish or not educated, so why are so many in the medical field not getting the vaccine?
