CCV Welcome Home Booking

Hi! I apologize in advance as I know this gets asked often! We are planning on booking a 2 bedroom at CCV in November 2020, using the direct contract we recently purchased (and haven’t used yet). We had planned on getting a dedicated but the grandparents just decided to join so now we need a lock off (they use the hallway access since the kids sleep in the living area). So now I’m not sure the best strategy...I’m afraid we’d miss it altogether waiting to try for the welcome home or we’d ruin our shot at a welcome home trying to book it online first or walk it if I can figure out how to do that! Any insight would be appreciated! Thank you!

Welcome home bookings are for stays within 6 months. So in your case I would try booking at the normal 11 months. As you want a lock-off, so subject to studio availability, and with a welcome home booking nothing is guaranteed and they are more likely to give you a dedicated, if they would even help in this case. I would think if you waited until 6 months out they probably wouldn't help much since you had the contract well before 11 months, but I'm not sure on this final point.

Welcome home bookings also don't guarantee unit/resort of choice or even home resort. They would be as likely to put you at Saratoga as get you the CCV you want.

If they even did a Welcome Home booking. It's not contractually obligated, and it's for short-time stays. You'll have well over 11 months for booking.

Getting a lock off will be difficult in November. I check every morning and the studios for next October are gone within minutes. I expect November to be the same.

I know people may get mad at me saying this, but I recommend you check every morning and start walking a lock off for the days you need.

The other aspect of Welcome Home is that getting something hard to get at the resort they are selling can sometimes happen.

Getting something at a resort that is already sold out is a different situation as they can’t give you something that members have already booked,

As mentioned, you are able to book this room..or try..because you haven’t hit the 11 month mark.

Thank you all for the helpful responses! I definitely had the wrong idea of the welcome home booking! I had never paid too much attention because I didn't think we'd ever buy direct, and once we did, I had figured we'd be booking dedicated 2 BRs. Then the grandparents who usually stay in a moderate stayed with us in a BCV lockoff and it seems they are now as hooked as we are! Now it looks like it's time to read up on walking (also on that list of things I never thought I'd do haha!).

I would start walking now.

I’m walking a studio to Thanksgiving. I don’t want to do it, but given that studios are gone within seconds and that everyone else is walking, I see no other choice. It’s the only way I can make sure I get the dates I want.

After next year I’ll only be getting 2 bedrooms for my trips, so walking will not be needed.

You can't start a walk today for a lockoff 2 BR at CCV because the first night is unavailable. Keep trying each day right at 8AM to get a reservation started.

Bear with me...do you mean 10/16? I had looked at 7:55am this morning and there was a 6 night reservation starting 10/16 available but now it starts the 17th. I should've booked this morning right?

And can I add another question...we were planning Sunday- Saturday which is 234 points. By walking, we'll have to go over a span that is 240 points. How does that work with borrowing? What do I do with those 6 points I borrowed just for walking? This is so confusing!

Yes, you would have needed the 16th to start a walk. The issue will be how quickly those go each morning. You may have a better shot trying to get the walk in shower lockoff though it will also go quickly.

Don't borrow, just shorten the number of days that you have booked while walking that time period. Just walk a 4 or 5 night reservation. It means having to modify a bit more frequently but still keeps it locked in. Then lengthen it out once you get beyond the dates that would require borrowing.

Just to add, you can not book until 8 am EST when booking exactly at 11 months. If you search availability prior to this, it will show it to you, but I’d you try to book, you will get a message you are outside the window and will have to refresh. Sometimes that extra step can cost you the room.

So, if you decide you want to try and book now and move it for a month, go on tomorrow morning a few minutes before 8 am. Put in the nights you want that won’t involve borrowing when you move it through a weekend.

Then, wait until exactly 8 am to hit “Check availability“. if it is available, the n book.

To walk it, you simple go on in a few days, but before the 11th month window from check out day, and move it forward.

I do agree it is a long time to do this and not sure that is necessary to start this early, but I have also not tried to book what you need.

Haha exactly! I feel like this is what I get for being confident that the studio problem at CCV wouldn't affect us! Our Plan B would be another resort but then I'm in the 7 month mess that I was also convinced wouldn't be a problem because we bought where we wanted to stay!

Worst case scenario for you is a dedicated 2 bedroom. Which really isn’t too bad.

I would actually prefer the dedicated (easier than the dual doors for the connecting rooms), but the grandparents need a second hallway access so they can come and go while the kids are sleeping on the pullout in the living area. They sometimes stay out later than we do. They also use the kitchenette area in the studio.
