Hi everyone. I have a Disney credit card that I put everything and anything on so I can earn the most points. I pay it off every month so it costs me nothing. We are able to buy our WDW tickets with the points so it's great. I've always been able to economize on the lodging and food but couldn't get any really great discounts on those blasted tickets! :D

So I was wondering if there was anything like that so I could earn some points towards Universal tickets for next year. We are only going for a day to IOA so I need 5 adult tickets.

Any ideas?

I know you can get universal tickets through the southwest visa. But that would cut away at your disney rewards...

American Express Membership Rewards offers the following:

20000 points: Universal Orlando Resort 3-Day Park to Park Adult Ticket
7500 points: Universal Studios Hollywood Child Ticket
18500 points: Universal Orlando Resort 3-Day Park to Park Child Ticket
9000 points: Universal Studios Hollywood Adult Ticket

You can earn Amex MR points with any of the following cards:
Amex Centurion (Black) ($2500 annual fee with $5000 initiation fee, invite only)
Amex Platinum ($450 annual fee)
Amex Premier Rewards Gold ($0 first year, then $175 annual fee)
Amex Zync ($25 annual fee)
Amex Gold ($125 annual fee)
Amex Green ($0 first year, then $95 annual fee)
Amex Blue ($0 annual fee)

Additionally, there are offers currently available where you can get anywhere from 25000 to 100000 bonus MR points after a certain spending threshold when you sign up - i.e., you can get 50000 points after spending $3000 in 3 months when you sign up for an Amex Platinum.

can you (or anyone else?) give me a little detail about this one? Is it like Disney Visa? I earn points on whatever I buy? We never fly so I wouldn't use it for that.

:rotfl2: For $450 annual fee the CARD should be made of platinum!!

It's pricy but you get a ton of great travel and consumer benefits that are worth way more than the $450 annual fee. Obviously it's not for everyone.

I recently upgraded to a Black card after several years with Platinum and you know what? The Black card is made of titanium. Heavy, too. :)

Chase freedom has Universal tickets in their reward center to redeem with points.

Yeah, this sounds like for someone who travels a lot? business traveler?
The tickets I want to buy are equal to the annual fee. lol

crack.me.up. ;)

Not just for business travelers, but for anyone who travels fairly frequently. For your $450 you get access to Delta/American/USAir/Priority Pass airport lounges when normally an annual membership to just one of those airline lounges is $300-$400. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to benefits, but obviously they're not worth the annual fee for you. And that's OK.

Besides, you don't need the Platinum to rack up MR points. I listed several Amex cards with low or no annual fees. The 50k bonus points for Plat was just an example.

The southwest visa is just like any other chase credit card. If you get a new one you get 50,000 points with your first purchase. Universal adult 1 day park to park tickets are 12,000 pts and a child is 11,000. You also earn reward points with purchases (you earn more with airline ticket purchases), but you earn on everything you spend. I don't know how many tickets you need, but just the 50,000 sign up points may be enough to get them for you (you can buy 4 adult tickets from the sign up bonus) If you need less than the 50,000 points you could use some of the leftovers to get Hard Rock gift cards to eat when you are at universal (5000 pts = $50 hard rock cafe gift card or I think there is 3000 = $25). We got 2 cards between our group and had 100,000 pts. We used it to buy 4 adult tickets, 2 child tickets, and $300 in hard rock cafe gift cards to buy dinner/drinks/t-shirts

If I haven't even applied for the card yet, there's no way I could get it, make a first purchase to get the 50,000 points and then order the Universal tickets and have them shipped to my house all by June 14th, right? I'd be crazy to even try it?
