Casual Dinner Dress

I hope this won't start a debate, but I have a quick question about dressing my DD for the casual dinner nights.

I know jeans are frowned upon, but she has several "dressy" pairs of jean overalls. They are themed and have frills and beads and lots of over the top stuff on them to dress them up. Would these be okay for her to wear at dinner on the more casual days?

Thanks!

There are two questions in all of these threads:

1) Can I get away with it?
and
2) Is it appropriate?

The answer to #1 is definitely yes - Disney is lax about dress code in general, and probably even more so for little ones. You won't be turned away or anything like that. #2 in my opinion is no. I have no doubt your DD looks extraordinarily cute in those outfits :) but if anything, overalls (decorated or not) are even more casual than jeans.

I'm honestly not trying to get away with anything. Just wondering what I should pack and came across mermaid overalls, which she does look extraordinarily cute in. :teeth:

I'm trying to pick outfits with a dual purpose, so that I don't have to keep changing her throughout the day.

By the way, this is an example of what I was talking about. DD's aren't faded like these, but are decorated similarly.

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to imply that you were! :) I just meant those are typically how the responses in these threads go. Some people address it as a "should you" and others as a "can you" - I do both. :teeth:

I think that's a great idea! I would just go about it the opposite way - e.g., dress her for the day in a cute little skirt and top (not dressy / itchy / formal - think Children's Place sort of outfit) and go straight to dinner.

It's not going to be a global crisis either way, of course, but you asked for opinions and that's mine. :)

IMHO - denim is denim no matter how much it is dressed up. When they ask for no jeans I would say no jeans and that would include the overalls you have shown. Of course there are those who will ignore the request and no Disney won't turn you away.

I hadn't thought of it like that. Since she's a little princess, she likes being in dresses anyway. She's hit or miss with the overalls. Likes the designs, but thinks they are babyish.

But, since we have the late seating, I wonder if DCL would draw the line at her being in her PJs? They are all Disney-related afterall and are not denim ;)

Thanks! :D

I'd say no. While they're cute, they are definately in the "jeans" category.

LOL - I don't know, but if you give that one a shot, come back and let us know how it went!

When the word "jeans" is used, I wonder what the exact definition of that word is.
Does it mean the typical blue denim jeans? "Jeans" as a category come in many, many styles and colours, such as pink, green, brown, black, mauve, khaki etc.
Is it the considered to be the style of the pants or the colour of the pants that classifies them as jeans?

Don't sweat it, the stuff you posted will be fine. I panicked when I realized, the night of a dressy dinner on the Magic, that my 16 year old son's jacket was now too small for him. He went with a shirt and tie and THEN we discovered just about every kind of attire in the dining room. Disney doesn't care. I didn't rent a tux, but wore a dark suit, but there were adults in lesser attire, even blue jeans, and it was just fine. I WAS shocked at the people at the table next to ours who wore matching black sweatsuits, but they were fun to watch. They reminded me of the Beverly Hillbillies BEFORE they found "black gold". He sent a lot of food back to the kitchen, overheard him say , after ordering Beef Wellington, that is was odd to put pastry on meat. I think he was shocked to learn escargot are snails!!!

As the Chief Laundry Officer :scared1: for my family, it's good to keep the changes to as few as possible. My experience has been that it's hard to get away with anything less than 2 changes per day.

Also the laundry rooms are usually not too busy at 3:00 am, I've noticed..

Just don't plan on doing laundry on Thursdays. We did but had to wait. Cabin stewart says Thursday's and the busiest days every week, eastern and western cruises.

I was never up at 3 am, but I thought they closed the laundry rooms at midnight??????

Actually... according to DCL website:
Are children expected to follow the same dress code as adults?
Each parent or guardian would be the best judge of what attire is appropriate for our youngest cruisers. Guests who are age 13 or older would probably be most comfortable wearing attire similar to what is recommended above for all the ship's passengers.

When it comes to children- the "jeans" rule is not a RULE rule... it clearly states that children are not expected to strictly follow the same dress code as adults- because the question there asks that question and answers it with saying the parent/guardian would be the best judge of what attire is appropriate for the children cruisers. It then states over 13 would probably be more comfortable wearing attire similiar to adults.
I read that as it's not as strict for children- and I know I personally wouldn't care if a young child was in shorts (meaning like if my son was in polo with khaki long shorts- something like that maybe) or jean overalls dolled up like that.

Clearly the suggested attire for adults is not expected of children- they are leaving it up to the parents to decide what they feel is appropriate. If it's casual nights and I'm wearing a blouse with capris and sandals... will it really offend others if my 3yr old is wearing an outfit that is like a tunic with matching shorts & sandals? (tunics are like longer flaring shirts- that are almost as long as a dress but not quite- therefore most of them usually have matching shorts) If so, I think that's silly... I think for casual dinner nights it's not as strict for the children. Personal opinion validated by DCL's posted answer to this question. :)

Oh man, I really hope that isn't true. If it is, I might as well not plan on doing laundry our entire cruise and pack more clothing! I had planned on if I did laundry- it would be after my family went to sleep which would be late I'm sure....

Heh. That reminds me of the ever-so-charming (NOT!) tablemate on my cruise who sent back his vichyssoise (sp?) because "This damn soup is COLD!" The waiter somehow managed to keep a straight face. :hyper:

I think as long as the 3 yr old has clothes that are clean, neat and tidy, that they will be fine. It is for the casual nights and not for semi-formal or formal nights or restaurants. BTW the Op's daughter is also three.

LOL!!!! on the soup.
They seemed geared to making everyone happy so I suspect they have warmed vichyssoise more than once!!
My 16 year old is very pick about meat.....his normal range is hamburger and hot dog, but just like our 2002 HAL cruise, he asked questions of the waiter and found things he was willing to try. Last trip he discovered filet mingion, this trip, beef wellington. Also ordered a fruit salad.....that turns out had a blue cheese dressing of some sort on it. The combination didn't look good to him when it arrived, but he tryed it, and found it to be a good taste combination.
Regarding the laundry rooms, I could be wrong as I never saw the one on deck 7 closed, but I swear I read somewhere that the laundry rooms did close overnight. My wife always did laundry around brunch or lunch time on days at sea. Load up the laundry, then we'd go eat, come back, put it in the dryer, go get ice cream Never knew doing laundry could be fattening!!!
