Castaway Cay - what to see and do

it was just dh and me and we did the treasure hunt while on cc. it was a lot of fun and we had a blast. managed to get a piece of the treasure at the end. third group in but first group who did not open the hint.
this activity is good for singles, couples or whole families. dh asked if we could do it again when we go back in feb. something to think about.::yes::

Forgive me if this has been answered, but will they have umbrellas for those of us who cannot tolerate a lot of sun? :scared1:

I was online trying to book the paddle boats or the aqua trikes. But they were not listed. Have they done away with these bookings or do you have to wait until CC to reserve them?

Does anyone know how to go about booking boat rentals at Castaway Cay? I don't see it online. Can you still book them and just have to wait until you on CC or what?

I am pretty much blind without my contacts. (Think Mr Magoo blind! :rotfl:)

Can I wear then snorkling w/ Dis equipment or does the mask leak too much?

This is going to be an minority answer, but I stay on the ship while everyone else and their mother is on the island. A nice empty ship is way better than an island paradice

SSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Don't give them any bright ideas.....we want the ship empty...........

"Get Off The Ship.....You MUST go to Castaway Cay........."

Treasure hunt? Can you explain more? I don't recall reading anything about one! Sounds like fun.:goodvibes

I really don't like Castaway Cay, It is a beach with no waves. I live a mile from a beach with waves. I will stay on the ship. To me that is the best thing to do at Castaway Cay.

I am an experienced snorkeller (Maldives/Egypt/Malaysia and others)
and I am blind as a bat.,,,altho in later years the focal length has adjusted as the reading vision gets worse but compensates for short sightedness...lol age has some benefits
One thing to remember that whilst under water...the focal length changes so you can see further than normal. I think most snorkel/diver trainers suggest try without first.
But I always snorkel with my lenses in. And its magic. I have my own mask (not an expensive one)..and never have a problem. If hiring, then usually more of an issue that long hair breaks the seal. If the mask leaks its a bad fit.
I take a spare set lenses on holidays...but never needed. And contact lens solution in beach bag.. In most places you can get to dry land/bathroom and clean and refresh)
have fun

Yeah....what is that with the scavenger hunt type thing? That sounds like so much fun.....also, is it an excursion, being that you have to pay for it, or just something neat that DCL does, for free?:confused3

The "treasure hunt" is free and open to everyone. We picked up our treasure map on board in one of the bars on Deck 4 I think... Was fun, until DD started to poop out, but we were very close to done by then, so finished with a cranky kid.

I like to just play it by ear at CC. I love Serenity bay for the sun bathing and solitude, but the family beach can be just as relaxing. I love watching DD and DH build sand castles while I drink a Konk Kooler or two.

Sigh... only 101 days to go....

Lots of great info here thanks everyone is there anymore recent info that might help. We want to scuba but really know nothing about it so should we just rent the equipment and try it out our seles at our own pace?

I didn't think there was any scuba diving at CC? And if it's scuba diving you want to do, you're going to need to have a scuba certification.

But if it's snorkeling you want to do, that's easy to do and you won't need training on that. :thumbsup2

I am so sorry that is what I meant see I am a real beginer I can not even say what I am speaking of!:confused3

How long does the treasure hunt take? Is it a couple hours or an all day thing? I hear you get to see lots of the island that you would not normally see, but also want to do nothing on the beach for a little while. Thanks

I just got back from 4-nights on Wonder, Aug 10-14. Had the time of our lives.

CC is just as you'd imagine a tropical island to be...you can do everything from nothing to non-stop activity. It depends on what you like to do.

I will be filing a complete Trip Report (on that appropriate message board) in the next few days. But I had a fabulous time at CC.

Things to do...
Relax in a hammock on Serenity Bay with a drink in one hand and a chocolate cookie (or two) in another.

Walk along the beach kicking at the water.

Play games at Grouper's Pavilion.

Parasail...highlight of my trip...awesome...relaxing...heavenly.

Yoga on the beach...so calming and refreshing.

Let the surf push you down the beach while you relax in a raft or inner tube.

Skip the tram to Serenity Bay and walk it...helps to work off a fraction of the calories you consume on this wonderful cruise.

Grab your favorite book and settle in a lounge chair.

Enjoy the drink of the day and a Konk Cooler (a must).

Snorkel.

Play sand volleyball.

Join the cruise staff at the gazebo for some dancing and music.

Do I need to go on??? :goodvibes

Totally understand and don't apologize! :) You just want to make sure you're prepared, and I totally get that. I think the biggest thing to get used to is water occasionally coming into your snorkeling mask. Other than that you shouldn't have any problems and you'll have a great time! :cool1:

We were on the Wonder in May, and signed-up for parasailing the first day at CC.....but our session was cancelled due to the wind, so we just walked over to the beach for a bit, ate lunch, and then came back to the ship around 1:00and it was great......the ship was almost deserted, so we just hung-out at the quiet pool. The second day at CC, we did the Stingray Excursion and enjoyed it very much.
