Castaway Cay is Disney's private island. How do you enjoy it? Excursions or just kick back and relax. What is your recipe for a perfect day here.

Bottom Fishing - **

I've only been once, but we got off the Wonder as soon as we could and snorkeled, finding the sunken Mickey and a lot of other stuff in the water there, and beautiful fish! When we were ready to get out, a lot more people were in the water (this was June, 2006) and there was a lot more sand kicked up, so I have to say that if you want the water at its clearest, get off as soon as you can and get in. LOL! That being said, the teens LOVED the banana boat so much I may do that myself next time. DH and I went parasailing and it was simply breathtaking and magnificent. I think it's a "must do" for me. Next time I go, I do want to make it to the adult beach, which we didn't get to do last time and I understand it's very nice.

Of course, if you're on Castaway Cay, I don't think you can have a "bad day." LOL! Anything you choose to do will probably be lots of fun, "Magic-al" and "Wonder-ful." :)

Our ds5 loved the floats. The tubes are way too big to be of any fun to little ones.

I like to drag my chair into the water to play/watch our son and order a virgin pina colada and feel like a queen.

We loved Castaway Ray's Stingray Excursion. It was a hit with everyone in our group, from 6 years old to 75!

Parasailing on Castaway Cay has been our favorite. Take a waterproof camera up with you to capture the most amazing images of the island that are second to none. We've always flown tandem. The guides are full of information too. Riding in the boat gives you a great amount of information that you probably wouldn't hear about the Abacos area otherwise.

We also enjoy the quiet time at Serenity Bay.

Rent bikes for the whole family and go for a family bike ride. We have done this on both cruises and it was lots of fun for everyone. Takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on how many stops you make. There are water stations all along the way ... your kids will want to stop at every one ... more for the fun of it than anything else. The ride is very easy and anyone can do it, mostly in the shade, but depending on the time of year may be a bit warm.

:sunny: CC was the best day of our vacation. DH and I dropped the kids off at Scuttle's Cove and Flounder's as soon as we could. Then, we were off to Serenity Bay. We relaxed on the beach, sitting in our chairs with our feet in the water drinking some yummy Midori Coladas (our new favorite drink). It was a perfect vacation moment. There are servers that come out onto the beach to take your order. We even had the server take our picture for us. After relaxing on the beach, it was time for us to head to a cabana for a couples massage. It was soooooooooo relaxing. The time went by way too fast. After that, we had a nice childless lunch. I had grilled chicken and DH had a burger. Then we hesitantly, headed back to the family area of the island. DH and DS6 went snorkeling after lunch. I had read other threads about going snorkeling in the morning to get a clearer view. DH said it was just fine. They had the best time. DS6 was so excited he found the hidden Mickey and saw a lot of fish. DH was scheduled to parasail in the afternoon, but it was canceled due to high winds. He wants to do that next time. I had a hard time getting DD4 out of Scuttle's Cove. She was having fun playing and getting the CMs wet. We were so exhausted when we got onboard. The kids were falling asleep at the pirate party that night! It was a fun-packed day we won't soon forget! :cool1:

Are the banana boat rides still available?

As far as boat rentals, I saw a pic of one that looked like two lounge chairs floating on the water, but I don't know what the title was or how you contral this vessel. Anybody rented one of these before?

I have heard that the family beach can be more enjoyable than serenity beach (it will just be me DW - 29 and me - 29). Any thoughts?

Is it worth the wave runner rental to get up close and personal with the Flying Dutchman?

I'm guessing Hammocks are first come first serve, but where are they located?

I appreciate all the info and the threads that have been going around!

This is going to be an minority answer, but I stay on the ship while everyone else and their mother is on the island. A nice empty ship is way better than an island paradice

Great thread!

Just wondering if we should do something special at CC on our trip in October. It will be the day before our 25th wedding anniversary. I loved the idea of the banana boat ride - sounds like great fun! What do other late forties / early fifties think of doing this or would we be with a load of twenty somethings - am I too old (at a relatively fit 47 to enjoy this) ???

Would be grateful for advice before 14th July where, as CC members, we can book excursions. Many thanks

I believe I read in the last week on this board that the Banana Boat rides had been cancelled, at least until DCL can find a new operator. My DS13 went on it in November and had a great time.

Regarding Serenity Bay, I think it really depends on the time of year and the weather. In mid-November, we had a day that was windy and cool. The waves were really choppy, and most of the water activities were cancelled. They did resume Banana Boat rides later in the day, but even sailing was only for very experienced sailors. Serenity Bay, that morning, was cold and the water way too rough to go in. On a nicer, less windy day, it would be great! That morning, not too many people were going in the water at the Family Beach either. I guess I would recommend you try it out and see. Later the same day, the wind died down, the sun came out and it was much nicer all around.

As you guessed, hammocks go very quickly. The one place that there always seems to be a couple available is at the far end of the beach, toward the Bar that's near the Sports and Teen Beaches (can't recall the name).

I personally think the Flying Dutchman makes a nicer photo from a distance, with or without the Magic in the background, but didn't do the wave runners, so I can't really address that. Only one side of it, though, is "finished"; the other is clearly a movie prop.

Hope some of that is helpful.

Konk Koolers!!!!!! Be sure to have several. LOL I love to try to get some time on Serenity Bay.

I suppose it depends on what activities you are looking to do to enjoy yourselves. DH and I spent some time at the family beach snorkeling, but our favorite time at CC was when we went to relax at Serenity Bay. It was so quiet and peaceful there - a real island paradise! :beach:

I think if you want to spend time swimming and/or frolicking in the water, it is usually better at the family beach. Serenety Bay, depending on the tide, can be a long walk on a rocky bottom just to get to water over your knees. The family beach is a more protected cove, so playing in the water there is just usually easier/more comfortable...just head way down towards Heads Up Bar for a less crowded spot. I usually hit both on my visits, how much time I spend at one vs the other depends on who I'm with and weather/sea conditions. I've been know to 'sample' lunch from both locations too!

I heartily second the recommendation about parasailing! It was a wonderful experience and a great view! :thumbsup2

NEXT VISIT: I'll be doing the bike rental, haven't tried that yet.

Had a great time at Castaway Cay:goodvibes We spent most of our time
on the family beach with the others in our group. Just swimming, tanning
and of course had a Konk Kooler:thumbsup2 DH and myself did go over
to Serenity Bay. Very nice and quiet if that's what you're looking for.
DD and DS spent the day at the Teen Beach and did the Banana Boat
ride which they loved! Nice lunch and perfect weather that
day - what more could you ask for?!!! :cool1:

We were just there 2 weeks ago for a double dip and they still had the Banana Boat.My son did one just for teens,a little wilder than the family ride:rotfl2:

I had heard that the banana boat was cancelled. Disney also removed it from excursion options on their website. Did they find a new operator for this excursion? I was terribly disappointed when I had heard it was no longer being done.

BUMP, BUMP, BUMP! I really need to find someone that knows for sure whether CC had its banana boat ride back. I really wanted for my son and I to be able to do this and was so upset when I had read on the boards that it had been cancelled :worried:
