I know with all the lives and property in danger with Frances getting close to Florida, I have not seen anyone mention Castaway Cay. I was able to find the coordinates if you have a tracking map or you can look at just about any hurricane chart on line and find that Castaway Cay is at 26.05 north and 77.32 west which will put it very close to taking a direct hit from Frances. If it does it could be quite a while before any of the cruises get to stop there. I am sure Castaway Cay has been evacuated. I certainly pray for all those in the path.

 We were on a 7 day Magic cruise about 3 yrs. ago and CC had experienced a huge hurricane. The island was "closed" to cruisers for almost a week. They had to redredge the docking area for the ship! The ship had to back in. Not enough room for the front hull of the ship. The island was a mess. Every tree was down, everything was brown. Hardly any greenery around. It was kinda spooky. Hope that doesn't happen again. Wish everyone in Frances's path prayers of safety.:grouphug:

My SIL emailed me and said her BF (who works on the Wonder) said everybody had to be off the island by 9pm last night. They have to picked up everything they can off the beach and board up the buildings. (their phone connection was not that great so she wasn't sure if he meant last night or tonight). He also said that the ocean is already rough.

We will just have to wait and see :worried:

Sending P&PD to everyone in the path of Frances :grouphug: :wizard:

Oh, my beautiful island! I was looking at one of my postcards at work today worrying about it. At least no one is in harm's way out there. I hope they got everything stowed and locked down.
If everything got damaged 3 years ago they do a quick job fixing things up--but this storm is a real lulu.

What did they do when Castaway Cay was closed due to damage after a hurricane? Did they just spend another day at sea, or go to another port?

I have a vested interest in this as I am on the 11/4 cruise.

Many thanks....

Me too...I am the 9/25 Magic....there are many of us wondering what will happen to CC.

We were back at CC during our 10/21/99 cruise...that put us at CC on 10/23/99.

When we got back to CC after the hurricane there were still lounge chairs far out in the water that had blown in during the storm. The island really was a mess and they had lots of big machinery still there fixing things.

I must apologize because this monster huricane with the threat to our beloved Castaway Cay is all my fault. See, I booked a cruise for my family and friends leaving next week and swore up and down that they will be fine traveling during huricane season. See my countdown clock message...... I wrote that 7 months ago. It's my own personal Murphy's Law biting me. So to all of those in Fla. I am very sorry. Try not to travel w/me on the 7 nighter, it will probably rain golf balls.

Ironically, I was able to keep my promise this year, but I still share some blame. Having sailed every year since 1998 in hurricane season (typically the Thurs. or Fri. before Labor Day), I have never once sailed in one. They may have come right before or after, but never when we sailed. This year, instead of our usual week, we booked the week after (9/9). We are sailing with friends, and I bragged to them that they will be 100 percent fine because we NEVER have a hurricane when we sail. That will probably be true, as it should be gone by the 9th, but I have brought back luck onto all the people sailing before us!

Hi Barb - when do you and Tony fly in? We are coming in on a red-eye from L.A. on Thursday morning.

:( MJ...I so wanted to see this....but I will still try to make the best of a cruise to nowhere on the 9th....

Our flight in is up in the air right now (pun intended). We were supposed to come in on Friday, but supposedly MCO will close at 6 p.m. We'll see! This may be an interesting trip report.
Barb

Where was it announced that MCO will close at 6:00 p.m? I didn't see that on their official website.

This is what their website states:

Orlando International Airport will remain open; however, flight operations will be determined by each individual airline, under the guidance of the FAA.

kaykels,

I'm hoping to combat your bad weather luck with my great weather luck!! We'll be on the same 7 nighter. ;)

We went the same time last year and had perfect weather so I'm thinking it'll happen again...positive thinking!!!

Good luck and lots of prayers for those in the path of Frances!!

CarolRN,

This must be a more recently updated quote from the Orlando Airport website:

Flight operations will cease at noon on Friday, September 3rd due to hurricane Frances.

I fear it is going to go right over CC. Kathy
