Caskbill

Any chance we can find some one to carry on that great software he wrote :(

I still play with Caskbill's Planner every day, even though the numbers are wrong. I just add 20 points to everything :rotfl:

I know Peg updated the Chart, but the Planner works on some algorithm that needs to be totally changed...

There are other planners out there, none compare to Caskbills though :sad1:

Once again, my thoughts are with you Peg.
I was wondering the same thing in regards to Bill's programs.
We bought into BLT in January and I was looking forward to the planner update.
Since Bill's passing I have looked for other programs but none come close to his, in my opinion.

I would be willing to pay if we couold find someone to continue on with this great software.

Thanks CaskPeg, I love Bill's programs and had purchased the upgrade. It won't work now because of my own silly mistake, when I tried to reload after a computer crash. Whoever gets the programs going again will perhaps be able to help me. :) Thanks again for working on continuing the programs.

I am sorry for the loss of your beloved CaskBill. I too have been off the boards for awhile and just read this post this morning. I hope God is giving you strength to get through this very difficult time. Caskbill is living in the big DVC in the sky:hug:

Thanks Peg, I was wondering if we could get help from one of the DIS tech people or maybe someone from one of the resale sites would be interested in purchasing the rights to the software.

Your site has over 40,000 visitors, it's not huge numbers but it is by far the best planner out there.

Maybe there could be a charge for using it with proceeds going to one of Bill's favorite charities.

Bill was a wonderful, helpful and supportive person. It would be appropriate to continue his legacy and have his name and imagination live on.

Peg and friends,

So sorry to hear of your loss. Though I did not know your husband, it's clear that he was a talented and well-loved man. Peace to you.

As a Disney community, I have to share a story about when my dad passed about two years ago... We were on our way to the funeral home to begin planning with my mom. My six year old son asked if Papa was buried yet. We explained that he wasn't, but that most importantly his spirit had left his body behind and was in heaven... or if it was a busy day in heaven, he was waiting to go thru the gates. My son thought briefly about that and then said, "kinda like waiting to get into Disney World." Yep, to many kids and grown-ups alike, Disney is the next closest thing!

Take care.

I agree with you. As I get older, I find it harder and harder to justify buying software, especially utilities, when there are so many good ones for free that work just as well. However, with Caskbill's programs, I found ones I would have gladly paid for and, wouldn't you know it, he gave them away to us DVCers. You gotta love the memory of someone like that! May he forever enjoy his Grand Villa in the sky next door to Walt and Roy.

I agree!

I just downloaded Caskbills programs to another computer, relieved they still are available. I since googled if they would continue to be updated and it found this thread. I for one would happily pay or donate to a charity to have updated versions of the software, and that is from a guy who hates paying for software.

Surely disney themselves would be interested in them or at least the coding, they are far superior to their website points calculator offering.

Ditto here. I'm also curious if anyone is working on or has been granted permission to finish the work that Caskbill started. For me this program has been the most user friendly.

Peg,

I, too, took a multi-month break from DIS and I'm sad to return to the board to discover Caskbill's passing. My condolences to you and your family. He was such a presence here over the years and I'm so sorry for the loss.

Warmest regards.

Caskpeg:

I have not visited the boards for a while and I just came across the sad news of Bill's passing. I wanted to offer my deepest sympathies. Like a lot of us, I never actually met him, but knew and admired his generosity and use his software constantly. I am one of those who hates to pay for software, but paid the upgrade price for one of his programs because of its usefulness and because he deserved to get paid for them. I also loved his advice on these boards. I am deeply saddened for your loss and wanted to add my condolences and my prayers for your family.

God Bless,
Cristina Trabada

I'm another one that has been away from the DVC area of the boards due to an 8 month lay off at work. I am sadden to read of Bill's passing, my prayers go out to his family as they cope with this loss. Add me to the list of people who use his software on a regular basis and have found it to be wonderful.

It's always so hard to lose one of our members. My heart goes out to his family and Peg. I just heard this today and am deeply saddened. He has left a wonderful legacy to those of us not fortunate enough to meet him. We are blessed.
