Casey Anthony Trial Thread #3

The commentators on the station I am watching (all defense attorneys) have gone up against Jeff Ashton. They all say this is very typical behavior by Jeff Ashton. They claim it is part of the show that he puts on.

hey Irish - are you a court reporter LOL

you're doing a great wrap up job

I feel like I'm watching a different trial than most of you. I think this witness has brought in some very interesting information that at least puts doubt as to the length of time a body could have been in the trunk.

I feel like JA is not having a good day. He gets very uptight when things don't seem to be going his way. It seems like JA is trying to discredit this witness when his background in forensic is much better than the state's witness who did the air experiments.

As for bringing in new science, which way is it. JA can't bring in a new science (air experiments) yet want to throw out this new science. Either new science is acceptable or not.

In the end, I'm not sure why they are arguing about this. The defense admits that she died and Casey knew that she died. Seems like admitting that a body was in the trunk is not a big deal. The only thing I assume is that they want to say the body was not in the trunk very long. That does away with the idea that Casey drove around for days with Caylee's body. It would lend more credence to someone (possibly George), who had access to the car immediately after her death, put the body in the car and dumped it somewhere quickly. I can't see any other reason for pushing this line of questioning.

The witness said the body could've been in the trunk anywhere from 2 to 4 days. Then he changes what he says to there's no evidence a body has been in the trunk.

I think this is why JA is getting upset. This guy bounces back and forth on his answers depending on who's doing the asking.

I agree with your last paragraph

I've been a lurker on this thread. But I just wanted to compliment you on being impartial. Not to knock anyone on this thread, but it seems like a lot of comments are so one sided. People are hating Casey so much that they aren't willing to keep an open mind on testimony. I hope the jury isn't doing that.

I personally think this girl is guilty, in case anyone is wondering. But she still deserves her time in court and to have an impartial jury.

Oh, and I think the prosecutor is seeming like a bully right now. He needs to take it down a notch. At first, I didn't think it was that bad, but it's getting out of hand.

Ok, I'm going back to lurking. Carry on, everyone.

THANK YOU.

I'm just not in the mood today to get chewed on so I haven't posted about it.

No problem! Unlike many people, I am trying to look at the case from a purely academic standpoint. I guess I have been so inundated with info and pictures from the beginning, that I am just over it. To me, it is just a sad case, like so many others. I am not letting emotion play a part in my evaluation of the trial proceedings.

I think people on this thread are so caught up in the sadness of the situation and the hatred toward Casey that they can't be objective. I know I'll get flamed for this statement, but I feel it is true. I understand where they are coming from, but I really think they are letting their emotions cloud how they interpret things.

Having said that, I am much more emotionally invested in more recent cases. Today, they announced that the parents of two children in this area were sentenced for aggravated child abuse. The children didn't die, but they were starved and beaten to the point of scars. The parents got two years. Our justice system is messed up!

We're not on the jury. We're on a discussion board. :confused3

Well, at least he's not accusing this guy of incest or sexual abuse.

I agree. I am caught up in believing she is guilty and wanting her to be punished.

The last paragraph is so true and so sad.

KLJ27, I sent you an email but thought others might be interested in this question. How are you listening on the radio? Can you give us the station? I didn't think you could listen to television on the radio since the switch to digital. I'm going to be on the road next week and would love to be able to keep up.

i did say hours ago that ashton needed to calm down because he was getting too worked up.

yes on direct his witness made some good points then in cross he contradicted himself then on redirect he contradicted his contradictions and now he's on re-cross.

how credible can someone be if they flip flop this much depending on who's asking the questions.

oh and there is no such thing as a completely impartial jury. they are human and as much as they want to have no opinion when they walk in the door unless they have 100% never heard one word about her then even a small part of them had some kind of thought about it.

and yes - anyone who is on a jury will try to sit there with an open mind - but make no mistake - opinions are being formed as each witness speaks and baring any major groundbreaking witness more then half of them have already formed their opinion

This makes me sick to hear.

I appreciate that you are trying to be impartial. I know that I have very strong emotions. I guess that after 6 miscarages and a failed adoption I find this case to be incredibly sad. I would give anything to have that beautiful child that Casey literally threw away. :guilty:

I really feel sorry for Bug Boy now. I bet he keeps thinking,"When will this be over?" Do you think he will be called back tomorrow?

Never said you were. I'm commenting about our hating Casey and her behavior and hoping that the jury didn't come in to this trial with ideas of guilt and they came in with an open mind. And I started my post by saying I wasn't knocking anyone. Sorry if you saw my comments as an attack. It wasn't meant to.

Here's a one sided comment:

I hope Casey gets the needle.

Oh, and this witness is a putz.

But I am trying to watch these proceedings from teh prospective of a juror and take note of when JB puts a smidge of doubt in my mind. This witness was not one of those times.

I wouldn't disagree with you about my hatred for Casey and sadness over the situation. I also wouldn't disagree with you that our justice system is messed up. That is why, when you combine those two thoughts, I am so emotionally vested. I believe, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Casey Anthony killed her daughter. Because our justice system is so messed up, I am willing to give Jeff Ashton a pass on bullying an "expert" witness for the defense when said expert seems to be stuttering around, changing his story and only wanting to answer questions confidently when the defense asks the question. I do not want to see Casey walk thanks to our messed up justice system.
