Casey Anthony Civil Trials Discussion

I guess poor George will dispose of the note as well. New trial

Casey will stuff it in her trunk, drive around with it for a few weeks until it gets stinky. Then she'll dump it and stuff her trunk with old bills and magazines and blame them for the stench. Duh. :sad2:

Reading the book has made me start thinking about one of the many unanswered questions I had during the trial. What the heck was Casey doing for the past two years before Caylee's death? She was with Jessie Grund for a little while after Caylee was born but they broke up. There are about 18 months in there that are unaccounted for. It doesn't sound like she had a big group of friends or multiple boyfriends until a few months before Caylee died. Yet most days she was dressing up for "work" and telling her parents she was taking Caylee to the nanny's. Where did she go and what did she do? It was too early in the day to hit a Fusion type bar and she seemed to be lacking friends to go with anyway. Did she just wait until the house was empty and head back there? What did she do on days that George didn't work?

After reading the interview with George and Melich, I have no doubt that George knew in his heart of hearts that he was searching for a dead Caylee instead of a kidnapped Caylee. No parent or grandparent wants to say that out loud but I really sense he knew it. I'm sure Cindy knew it too, but in her case it was buried somewhere very deep inside.

I'm enjoying the book but it is reminding me of how angry I was at the time (and still am to a degree) at the stupidity of the jury. I can accept that the jury wasn't comfortable with Dr. Voss and didn't want to convict Casey on a theory that was being referred to as junk science. But when George, Cindy, Bloise, the tow truck dude, Melich, and two cadaver dogs detect the smell of death in the trunk, and even Casey herself tells Amy that the car smells like a dead animal was in it, wouldn't all those people be enough to convince the jury that Caylee was in that trunk at some point? Since the car was in Casey's possession while Caylee was missing, wasn't that enough to put the pieces together? Well, we all know the answer to that. Morons!

She probably drove all around town, went to the mall, the beach, book store, etc. She probably went back home and did her own thing, hiding out at home and leaving before anyone came home. Maybe she had a friend or two that she'd leave Caylee with and go hooking for cash? :confused3

This would be my guess too.

It just seems to me that if she would have been leaving Caylee with someone all those months, time after time, that person(s) would have come forward by now. I can't believe one of them didn't call into on of the talk shows during the media frenzy just to get their story out there. Or, although no crime was committed, maybe the prosecution would use a bit of that in their case. "You will also hear from Sally & Judy who were friends of Casey. They will testify that Casey lied to them about her whereabouts on a regular basis and dropped Caylee off with one of them claiming she needed to go to work. At that time, she was still telling her parents that Caylee was with Zanny." It just seems odd to me that she concocted this whole story for 2 years and we really only know about her life before she broke up with Jesse and the six months of so leading up to Caylee's death.

Well, then, maybe she was doing all of those things with Caylee --including "servicing" men in her parents home. She could've brought the men home and stuck Caylee in her crib. :confused3

I think when Casey was claiming to her parents that she was leaving Caylee with a babysitter when she went to work, she was just going out with Caylee, killing time (excuse my word choice). There was that one friend (don't remember who) that babysat for a while for free until she found out that Casey didn't actually have a job. And then the other times, I guess George and Cindy babysat.

I don't think there was a mystery person watching Caylee. As a matter of fact, I believe what Linda Drane Burdick said at the trial...Caylee was beginning to talk. She could start telling her grandparents what was going on. And maybe that included "mommy and I did xyz today" when Casey was supposed to be working. Maybe some of those fights Casey was having with her own parents were about things that Caylee was saying. And maybe part of the whole thing was that Casey was getting angry with Caylee too, as well as her parents.

With a little Xanax to keep her manageable.

I don't think there was a mystery person either which is what makes this case even sadder. I think Casey did spend a lot of time with Caylee in those 18 months or so so she did have a chance to bond with her and form a relationship. If she didn't have a relationship with her at all, I could see that she would just kill Caylee because she didn't care at all about her. Instead, from all accounts of past friends and family members, Casey was actually a pretty decent mother for awhile (not mother of the year but there were certainly much worse parents walking around at that time). Yet, even after that bonding, she was able to not only kill her own daughter but not feel an ounce of remorse.

I've always found that aspect of people fascinating. You have the kids that hurt animals growing up, beat up their siblings, and were bullies in school so when you hear that they killed someone, it isn't much of a stretch. I have never understood those that appear to be normal, have healthy relationships, brought up in fairly stable homes, and then they kill someone just to simplify their lives when there were so many other options. :sad2:

Having a teen niece with a baby and having worked with teen mothers, I can tell you that the novelty of a baby wears off. The pregnancy attention is great and the attention a new young mom gets when baby is born is great. Then, slowly, the friends stop coming around, start making plans that don't include you, and you're kind of stuck alone.

So, my guess was that having Caylee was fun at first because it was like having a living baby doll. Then, when Caylee started taking away from Casey's life, when Casey saw she was missing "La Bella Vida", when Casey's friends lived their lives in fun ways without her, she wanted that and knew she couldn't do it with a baby. Resentment towards Caylee started to grow. She could put the false face on for her parents but the resentment was probably building. She knew she could have "La Bella Vida" sans Caylee and decided to do what it took to get to that step.

Of course, giving up Caylee for adoption wasn't going to work because Cindy and George wouldn't allow it. And she wasn't going to let her parents control her kid ... so she did what it took to be free from everyone.

At least that's how I see it ...

I agree with all of that. I know that is exactly what most teen moms go through. Thankfully, most don't end up killing their child. Most either put on their big girl panties and handle their responsibilities or they pawn the kid off on their parents. Why, oh why couldn't Casey have just given Caylee to G & C? They would have gladly raised her while Casey partied on. Some teens are in horrible situations where they don't have anyone to turn to and zero help. Casey had such an easy answer but she was too selfish to take it.

That has always been the most intriguing, mysterious part of all of this. What the heck was her life before all of this? Why hasn't anyone talked about it?

Good points. But I don't think she ever wanted to give the baby up for adoption. Casey is about Casey and any attention she could get , Casey was going to milk it. She probably was just great while the attention was there, and as it dwindled, and no one cared anymore, thinks got sinister. And you are right, what was a great attention grabber (Caylee) became an obstacle and it went downhill from there. But one thing was clear, no way was she going to let Cindy have Caylee. That would mean Cindy "wins". Caylee was never a real person to Casey, just a tool for whatever psychotic need she had at the time.

You got it! :thumbsup2 Casey is an attention ho. What better way to get attention than with a pregnancy and baby! However, I don't think Casey ever thought things through about what happens when your friends no longer find your baby (or your talk about your baby) interesting. Especially when they cannot relate and would rather be partying ...

Apparently, Casey never thinks things through properly ...

You are right. Like the prosecution said, she would get to the end of whatever hall she was at and then just look for another one.

Yup! Perfect examples are the whole "I work at Universal Studios" thing. She never thought that out, never thought "What happens when they start investigating this and find out I didn't work there?"

And, she never thought about what would happen when the police found out there was no Zanny the Nanny. Or when the woman they did find said she had nothing to do with CA.

She never looked at the "big picture". She just looked at what she needed to do until the next thing popped up. And, when she ran out of hallways and found herself at a dead end, she had to admit that there was no job and there was no nanny.

Refresh my memory ... did she discuss Zanny the Nanny prior to going to the apartment complex and seeing Zenaida Gonsalez's info.? Because if she came up with the name Zanny months before seeing this woman's name at the complex well, wow -- talk about a "lucky break" for her! Bought her some time, you know?

This may have been covered during the trial and I just forgot about it or missed it but the part in the book about her trying to get into Universal was hilarious. I remember them talking about her walk through Universal and all the hallways but I just don't remember her at the gate.

She gives the guard her name....nope, not in the computer. She gives her bosses name....nope, not in the computer, either. She is relentless though. There must be some mistake, try again, etc. She never gave up! The guard was not in on it so he had no idea what was going on but there was another employee there with the detectives that knew the back-story and he was eventually allowed to use his ID to get her in. She wasn't prepared at that point to admit she didn't work there yet what did she think would happen once they got inside? It really is comical the lengths she went to to keep the lies going. I think she was so used to Cindy accepting every lie from her no matter how ridiculous, that she assumed the detectives would buy it, too.
