Cases rising or dropping by you?

This is what I see locally too. This virus is on fire. I hope the treatment options make it less deadly.

I just read a eye-opening account on another social media site by a lady in Florida, Norine Mungo. Her recent experience is worth a read, if anyone is interested.

Psshh...
CA says “Hold my beer.”
Over 6,500 new cases yesterday.

I am not defending CA’s numbers because that is a major increase and something to keep an eye on for sure, but when comparing numbers, always remember to look at population size too. CA is a much more populous state.

I'm following a site that gives me that calculation.

Thanks! This is an interesting site. And it makes me feel slightly better. We’re doing ok in all areas except new cases. Of course I’d like to be doing excellent in all areas, but it’s not as bad overall as I was fearing.

Please show me an example. I called up Texas. Here's their positive rate:
View attachment 503797

Texas population is 29 million. So what is the infection rate that would trigger the mandatory quarantine? 2.9%? The comparison doesn't make sense (in that tweet). According to the tweet, "where infection rate is 10% of population". 10% of Texas' population is 2.9 million.

I'm not 100%, but I think they are referencing that Texas has 16 people per 1000 people testing positive, which is more than the CDC recommended number which is 10 people per 1000. If you notice across the top of the panel for Texas it tells you that the number of positive tests per capita is high, which is 6 more people testing positive for each 1000 they test.

The panel you show is the average percentage of positives for any testing. No matter how many people they test in the moving 2 weeks, the average percentage of positives is 11%.

My interpretation is that as long as the first panel is over 10 people per 1000 and the percent positive is over 10%, a state is considered high.

I'm sorry, but I can't get the panel reproduced here, I'm old and not that tech savvy. Usually have to get the IT retiree to help, but he's outside working in the yard.

I can't tell you exactly if these things are what the tweet is referring to, but I did notice the states he mentions are all high according to this site, except for Washington.

WHO recommends keeping the positivity rate at 5% or lower.

I like it too. It's a simple way to check on things and it updates daily.

SW PA entered green phase 2-3 weeks ago. Meaning 50% inside dining, gyms and hair salons opened. Cases started going up this week. We had been doing really well before the final reopening. Just have to wait and see how it progresses.

People in higher education also have income. Some of them may be talking about having some furlough days but they still have jobs. There's a lot of people who don't have income right now.

My statement was meant as the occupation and the site of which they worked, period!!!!!!!!

I read elsewhere they're looking for 10/1000 or the percent positive is over 10%. That makes sense. Saying the percent positive can't be more than 10% of the population (what the tweet said) does NOT make sense.

Yes I understand. I thought the tweet was poorly worded also.

In reality, no one wants want 10% of the population positive, either.

I live in Princeton NJ and things are getting back to normal here, well the new normal. Outdoor dinning lines the street, everyone wearing masks. I was hopefully Florida would end the 14 day quarantine given NJ cases are declining.

Things have gone from horrible to apocalyptic. The testing site by me ran out of tests at 10 am two days in a row, so the numbers are probably far worse than what’s being reported.

That’s exactly how it was here 2 months ago. It’s unfortunate that this needed to spread so that others would believe it’s no hoax.

Maryland cases are decreasing. Hospitalizations are decreasing. ICU beds are decreasing. It looks like our testing positive rate is 5.17%. Governor Hogan has done a phenomenal job getting it under control. I don't think he gets enough recognition for that.

https://coronavirus.maryland.gov/

True. MD’s Gov Hogan has been one of the most proactive during these times. Wish more state govs took his lead.

Does MD still have travel restrictions in place? If they do, then that’s great.

Our cases have risen by 150% since June 1st. Meaning we have 2.5 times as many cases.
This is one instance where I think the percentage only tells a partial story. Which one is more concerning? Going from 1 case to 2 or from 100 cases to 200 cases? They've both doubled.

And, because it should be asked, what's the percentage increase in amount of testing? If the number of tests administered went up 150%, I wouldn't be as concerned as if the number of tests stayed flat.

Pretty stable in Wisconsin. A couple days of spikes in percent of tests positive but it’s still below 5%. Hospitalizations have decreased pretty consistently the last few weeks too. Fingers crossed we can keep it under control here, but I’m terrified for many other places.

This is the best resource for data/stats in Wisconsin. It shows cases are steadily increasing. We're adding about 1,000 new cases every 3-4 days.

5004 for FL. 3057 for AZ. And TX is halting its reopening. Meanwhile, NY did the right thing and continues to open.
