Carrier for a 9 month old

We are heading to Disney in May - my DS will be 9 months old at that time. Is there a front or hip carrier that would accomodate him at that time.

I would like to purchase a carrier for the trip so I don't have to hold him in my arms everytime we want to go on a ride.

Thanks for any advice.

I'd check out The Baby Wearer, they will have a lot of suggestions, for a front and hip carry with a 9 month old I would probably look at a Mei Tai or an Ergo though there are a lot of other choices as well.

I'll be using a Hotsling while waiting in line since then I don't have to worry about straps or unbuckling in a hurry.

I love the Ergo (http://www.sproutingupgreen.com/cat...ducts_id=46&osCsid=58fg8ue5t3f6hc5dn8mve58042) It distributes the weight across the hips so it isn't all on the back and shoulders. I can still wear my 2 year old in this thing. My husband has worn our 3 yr old once or twice in it also.

We used the baby Bjorn at WDW when our son was 11 mos old and then again when he was 21 mos. I think the official weight is 35 lbs. The trick to wearing an older child is to make sure you are wearing the child high enough. If your back hurts, hike him up. The Bjorn is also easily adjusted to switch between mom and dad.

I have a babyhawk (mei tei) that I love for my 9 month old!!

We leave next week and I've been "in training" with carrying him (but he's 20+ lbs). If you're just looking for something to get you from stroller to ride then some kind of sling is probably better.

I love my Ergo for my son. He's one today and I can still easily carry him in it.

I vote for Ergo. Very easy to use and very comfortable. I still wear both my kids. 2 and almost 4. The almost 4 year old is only occasionally, but it is like giving him a piggy back ride without having to hold him.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my Ergo. We used 2 of them on our April trip. DH wore the 3 year old and I wore our 17 month old.

We have a beco baby carrier (similar to an Ergo) that we love. Easy to use and our little man loves it. I've been using it since #2 was about 8 months old and he is about to turn 2 and it still works great. I have bad back problems from an old horse riding accident and this is the first carrier that I've used that has been comfy to wear....and I can wear him for hours in it.

Definately check out the website one of the first poster provided. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about baby carriers, wraps, slings, etc.

I agree with PP - check out babywearer.com. We love our Ergo for our 1 year old and we can wear her in front or back. Very convenient.

I think for quick carries like standing in line.. a pouch (like a peanut shell for example) or even better a ring sling (for example http://sleepingbaby.net/ sooo comfy) would be great..and because you would be wearing the baby on your hip you could even just keep the baby in there on the ride, if you were comfortable doing so.
For longer carries i would totally recommend a Mei Tei..babyhawk is my FAVORITE..they are so pretty and so comfy. You could either wear the baby on your front (facing in!) or on your back (like a piggy back ride).
Or an SSC (soft structured carrier) Ergo is very popuar (i always felt it was bulky), Beco (very nice) or my favorite was the Kanga (j,x,xt) that was by far the most comfortable SSC i owned (and i had ALOT of carriers..lol)
I would recommend looking at http://thebabywearer.com/ TON of info and there is a FSOT (for sale or trade) forum where you can find gently used carriers for a great price.

my baby carrier stash that I use for my 14 month old who is 19 lbs. consists of:
a babyhawk www.babyhawk.com
a bunch of didymos wraps www.didymos.com
an Ergo http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/
and a beco butterfly http://www.becobabycarrier.com/

I definitely prefer the beco to the ergo. The ergo doesn't get much love in this house. I use my wraps the most, but for ease of use I would recommend the babyhawk. You can "build your own" for the same price as the in stock carriers too.
I will also parrot what everyone else has said, and check out thebabywearer.com. You may be able to find used carriers for a great price.

According to their website, Bjorns are only rated up to 26lbs max.

I would suggest getting one far ahead of your trip and trying it out. We have an Ergo and a Bjorn. Our baby has never been a huge fan of either, but prefers the Ergo slightly over the Bjorn.

We didn't use either carrier at Disney. DD was much happier in her stroller. Lines for rides she was able to go on were short enough that we didn't have to worry about holding her for more than 5 minutes.

One problem with Bjorns compared to other carriers is that in the bjorn, the baby just hangs there at the crotch... with ergos and mei tai's and the like, baby actually sits so it is so much better for their development.

I haave a frame backpack, a maya wrap, a bjorn and an Ergo.

We went to Michigan this summer and didn't even bring a stroller. Awesome for walking on the beach too.

I haven't tried my son on my back with the ergo yet. Does anyone know what age that is good for. I normally just carry him in front but he half turns around that way so he can see where we are going. Placing him on my back might work out better so he could see ahead of us.

We carry all of our kids that way from about 6 months up.

At 10 months I had DS in the Ergo (both front and back) he was probably 20-25lbs and I could easily carry him for long periods of time.

We are going at the end of April and my little guy will be 8 months.

I am bringing my hotsling for hip carrying and I just got a beco butterfly II about a month ago that I am liking as well and plan on bringing it for front and back carries.
