Carousel of Progress "officially" closed?

When we were in WDW in October there was an article in the Disney that was in our villa listing a timeline for Disneyland. You would be amazed at how Walt changed things if they weren't working or didn't fit. As much as I love CoP (ask dw) it has seens it's better days. I think a big difference between the 60s and now is that we don't have a vision of the future as society did back then. MHO is that Walt would have put this tired old soldier to rest and found a new and exciting idea to replace it. He didn't hold on to the past he always looked to the future.

Oh no! Timekeeper and Carousel of Progress are two things I've never seen, and I'm not going back until next Spring!!! I know there is no hope of seeing Timekeeper, so I truly hope Carousel is still there.

COP is a must do for me every trip. I love it. I'm always nervous about it's future because of Disney's penny pinching. It's not exactly the most cost effective ride in the MK. I hope they give it the refurb it deserves. Sorry to hear about Timekeeper. I enjoyed that also.

Carousel of Progress was moved back to year round ride while TK was still at seasonal. Those two get lumped together but CoP has been open everyday from at least November through this past week.

One rumor has it eventually moving to Epcot, which isn't a terrible idea. Closing it forever is a horrible idea.

That podcast is just guessing though. very unreliable.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 That cannot be happening! I absolutley love that ride! It is one of my all time favorites!

The first time we were at WDW the cast member swayed us away from doing COP. He said is was just a show and not very exciting. This time we all went on it, and I'm so glad we did. Whilie it is outdated, it would be sad to see the attraction go, because it is Walt. They definitely could update it a lot, but it needs to stay. Epcot might be a better home for it. And, maybe it's something worth completely redoing, but it shoudl stay.

We are just back from our trip and it is definitely up and running. In fact-my DH experienced it for the first time and loved it...he hasn't stopped singing "A Great Big Beautifiul Tomorrow" since!

I do have to say that it needs some attention. The carpet is worn out and there was old caked on gum on some of the seats. I do think that Epcot woudl be a better location for COP.

I can also confirm the CoP is still running. We were in it on both Friday, March 3rd and Saturday, March 4th.

It needs much more than recarpeting. It needs the motors replaced that move the ride, or the gears, or whatever it is that sometimes just doesn't want to move. I hate to see Walt's ride become worn out, which it is becoming, both physically and with the show. I have to think Walt himself would heartily endorse keeping the show, and the ride, up to date. After all, it IS about progress. ;)

The same arguement that I heard was at the route of moving it to Florida yet Innovations, which is now in the old (and I mean old) CoP show building moves all day long, non-stop. I would think that with the wear mentioned it wouldn't move at all, much less continuously. But what do I know.

:rolleyes1 :confused3 :smooth:

I hope not.. I just found COP on our last trip and I really enjoyed it.. We are heading back in 2 weeks and definitely want to ride it again.. My 2 oldest kids havent rode it yet..

I hope it's still running by the time I get there in April, they've already gotten rid of too many great attractions simply because they think everyone wants newer thrill rides (I still mourn the loss of Horizons at Epcot Center to make way for Mission: Space, and for some reason, Carousel of Progress feels like the next best thing to Horizons)

and I was on it yesterday!!!!

I rode it yesterday. yes it is cheesy but it's a disney stple and it must stay.....

If WDW got rid of COP, would that mean there's no longer a "great big beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of every day."

How sad.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this ride....
